Chapter 12.
I unlock the front door and see Hulk sitting at the other side wagging his tail waiting "hey boy!” He jumps up on me nearly knocking me down licking my hands "good to see you too boy.” I close the door and stick my keys into the key bowl and stroke Hulk’s head before heading towards the kitchen looking around "hello?! Grandpa? grandma?!” I run upstairs and look into my grandparents’ empty room before looking at Hulk “where is everyone?” Hulk tilts his head and I take a deep breath and walk towards my room closing the door behind Hulk when he runs in after me. I hang my jacket up on the back of the door and the note from Grayson falls out my pocket and onto the floor. I bend down and pick it up before heading over towards the bed sitting down "will we see what mystery boy has too say then boy?” Hulk lies down on the bed next to me look at the note "take that as a yes.” I turn the note around and see my name on the top of it and unfold it before reading it "Misty I don't want to see my brother or sister hurt so think It's best that you stay away from them and keep your distance from my family!” I laugh awkwardly and turn the paper around "is that it?” I look at Hulk and take a deep breath "he really is a mystery isn't he?” I shrug my shoulders and stick the piece of paper in my bedside drawer closing it. I look at my alarm clock and realise it was 8PM "shit.” I quickly stand up and grab a pair of fresh pjs "I guess I should get ready for school tomorrow.” I head towards the bathroom grabbing my dressing gown and closing the door behind me. I start running a bath and walk towards the mirror as it runs "Misty?!” I jump and look towards the door "I am in the bathroom.” I hear my dad knock the door "can I come in?” I open the bathroom door and smile "yeah.” He looks at the bath and smiles "I was coming to remind you too go for a bath for school.” He nods towards the bath and smirks "but I guess I don't have too.” I smile and look back towards the bath "yip.” I look at my dad and laugh "don't want to smell of wet dog and lake water on my first day of school.” My dad smiles and nods “true.” He turns around walks towards the door but stops at the front door and turns around "I got to go to work for a bit and your grandparents are at your Aunt Stacey's fixing her car or something so you going to be ok yourself for a while?” I lean against the bathroom door and smile "yeah.” I nod towards Hulk sitting on my bed "plus I aren’t alone.” He looks at Hulk and smiles "true.” I walk into the bathroom and start closing the door "see you tomorrow then?” My dad nods and smiles "ok honey.” I close the door and my dad take a deep breath and looks at Hulk "take care of her boy ok?” Hulk tilts his head and barks "good boy.” My dad turns around closing the door slightly behind him.
The bath is hall full so I stop the water and walk towards the towel rank and realise there isn't any towels "great.” I fling my head back before looking around. I shake my head and walk out the bathroom and head towards the bedroom door and towards the stairs. I stop at the top of the stairs when I hear voices from the bottom of them and lean down and see my dad and another man whispering. I go down two steps and listen in and hear them say my name “I'm telling you Alex the best thing you can do right now for everyone is change her schools.” I look down and stop a man I’ve never seen before standing at the doorway wearing a black leather jacket with his sleeves rolled up showing of a bear tattoo on his arm with spiky biker boots on. He nods towards my dad and take a deep breath "especially they Denver brothers.” My dad rolls his eyes and take a deep breath "I know I know.” The man smirks and nods "so It's settled she must change schools.” My dad shakes his head and smiles "I am sorry Zac but I can’t do that it will take weeks.” My dad shrugs and take a deep breath "months maybe before she’s in another school plus the next school is miles away. We just need to hope that she makes new friends soon.” The man shakes his head slowly and shrugs "and if she doesn't?” My dad shrugs and smiles "the Denver boy did save her so maybe it won’t be that bad.” The man laughs nervously "she wouldn't have needed saving if it wasn't for the Denver family.” The man rubs his beard "you know the history and I'm sorry but I can only seeing this end badly for Misty.” The dad take a deep breath and grabs his jacket "it won’t be like last time. We know what to expect this time and she’s a teenage girl if you tell her too stop speaking to a boy she will just want to speak to him more.” My dad nods and take a deep breath "let’s just hope it dies of and they go their separate ways.” I shake my head and take a deep breath standing up and walking downstairs smiling. My dad and the man look at me and smile "hey honey I thought you was going for a bath and calling it a night?” I smile softly and nod "I am I just need clean towels.” My dad smiles and nods "ok.” I look towards the man and smile "oh sorry Misty this is my oldest and closest friend Zac.” I hold my hand out and smile "nice to meet you.” The man smiles grabbing me into him for a cuddle "I am also your godfather.” I look at my dad and laugh "I didn't even know I had godparents.” My dad smiles and nods "yeah Zac and his wife Lucy are your godparents.” I smile and nod "well we should get them over for dinner.” Zac laughs nervously "Lucy passed away a few years ago.” I look at Zac and shake my head "I am so sorry for your loss.” Zac smiles softly and rubs my shoulder "thanks M.” I smile and take a deep breath "I should grab towels before my bath gets cold.” I walk towards the cupboard and grab a few towels and head back over towards my dad "see you tomorrow dad.” I look at Zac and smile "nice meeting you.” He smiles nodding "I am sure it won’t be the last.” He looks at my dad and smirks "we will arrange for you to come over for dinner soon ok?” He looks at me and smiles "sounds fun.”
I run upstairs and stand at the top of them leaning down listening into the conversation. "Don't look at me like that Zac the Denver's know the laws and that's good enough for me too know that she will be safe.” I raise my eyebrow shaking my head "what laws?” I lean back down and see Zac shake his head "fine but if anything does happen too her then I will be the first one too spill blood.” He smiles and shrugs "laws or not.” He turns around and walks out the door and my dad follow’s after him closing the door behind him. I stand up straight and take a deep breath "I need to know more.” I run towards the bedroom and grab my phone and click on Cameron's name and send her a text message ‘Hey Cameron you still on for milkshakes tomorrow?” I fling my phone onto the bed and head towards my drawers grabbing a set of pjs and head towards the bathroom closing the door behind me. My phone dings and Cameron's name comes up with a new text message’ I get out the bathroom and stick my dressing gown on and head back towards my bed sitting down grabbing my phone I read the text and smile "now I will get some answers.” I fling my phone back onto my bed and grab the backpack I got for school and pack it with the school essentials I got and stick it on the back of my room door next to my jacket. I look through my drawers trying to find an outfit for the first day back at school and take a deep breath after a few minutes sitting back "none of these are first day of school outfits.” I stand up looking around and jump when someone knocks my bedroom door "It's only me.” The door opens and my grandma walks in holding a gift bag "here.” She hands me the bag and smiles "I got you a little something.” I take the bag and smile "what for?” I sit down on the side of the bed and open the bag pulling out a red skater dress “what's this for?” I look at my grandma and she sits next to me and smiles "I knew you would be stressing about an outfit and I remember your mum saying your favourite colour being red and when I see this dress I thought of you.” I hug her and smile "I love it thank you.” She smiles and stands up and heads towards the door "good.” She turns around and smiles "goodnight honey.” I stick the bag down next to me and smile towards my grandma "goodnight grandma and thank you for the dress.” She smiles and nods "your welcome.”
She leaves the door closing the door behind her and I grab the gift bag and fold the dress up placing it on top of the chair in the corner of my room. I turn around and take a deep breath "what’s missing?” I spot my shoes at the bottom of my bed and nod "shoes.” I head towards them and grab a pair of white trainers smiling "perfect.” I walk back over towards the chair and place them under it before walking towards the light and turning it off. I walk towards my bed diving under the covers when I hear Hulk bark softly "Hulk?!” I look around and spot him at the side of the bed siting "you coming up boy?” He jumps up the bed and lays down at the bottom of my feet "goodnight boy.” I turn over and close my eyes and start too drift of listening to the rain hit against the window. I wake up when I hear a loud bang and look around and see the window wide open and the curtains blowing into the room letting the rain in hitting against my window ledge. I turn my lamp on before jumping up knocking Hulk of the side of the bed and close the window locking it. I look down and see something on the floor and see a photo frame on the floor so I pick it up and turn it over and see a picture of me and my grandpa holding a fish by a boat called 'The Nicolas' I stick the photo frame on the window ledge and close the curtains before getting back into bed. I turn around and turn the lamp of when I spot a red shiny thing on the floor. I bend down and pick up a red wolf necklace but instantly drop it when I touch it when my wrist starts too burn "ow!” I look at shake my head picking it up and place it on my bedside table before turning onto my back and closing my eyes holding onto my wrist. When I start too drift of again the window blows back open making my jump and opening my eyes. I jump out of bed and grab the window but jump back in fright when I spot a figure out the back beside my old tree house standing look up towards me. I hear my bedroom door creak so look back and realise Hulk wasn't on the bed "Hulk?” I look around and hear him running downstairs "dammit.” I look back out the window and see the figure still standing there. I close the window locking it before running towards the stairs and down them towards the kitchen where Hulk is sitting by the back-door growling "no Hulk.” I look around and spot my dad’s sheriff jacket "I will get dad.” I turn around and walk towards the kitchen door when the back-door swings open and Hulk runs out "Hulk no!”
I run towards the door grabbing my grandpa’s slippers and sticking them on running out the back garden "Hulk?” I look around and see Hulk run around the tree house but nothing else around “let go Hulk there is nothing out here.” He sniffs the ground and looks around before walking towards me and standing by my side "it was probably just a shadow or something.” I look towards the back door and take a deep breath "let’s get back to bed.” I walk towards the back door but it slams in my face making me jump back “hey!” I try open the door but It's locked "hello?!” I look into the kitchen window and see a shadow inside walking about "dad?!” I try the door again and bang on it "dad I am out here!” The shadow comes into the kitchen and I see a man in a black hoody. I step back and look around and spot a hole in the fence "Hulk come!” I run towards the hole in the fence with Hulk right behind me and crawl under it before running towards the front door of the house and banging on the door. I look up towards my dad’s bedroom and see his bedroom lights turn on "dad!” I turn back to the door and bang on it again and after a few seconds my dad walks down the stairs rubbing his eyes holding a baseball bat "Misty?!” He turns the hallway light on and looks around "I am out here.” He looks towards the door and unlocks it "what you doing out here?” He sticks the bat down and yawns rubbing his eyes "I went out the back and got locked out.” He nods slowly and sticks the bat down at the front door "why was you out the back?” I look at Hulk and smile "letting Hulk out.” He looks at Hulk and nods "ok.” He walks towards the kitchen and I follow him "the wind must have blown the kitchen door shut.” My dad walks towards the kitchen door and tries too opens it "did the wind lock it too?” I shrug my shoulders and laugh nervously "maybe.” He rolls his eyes and grabs a bottle of water "you sure you haven’t been sleep walking again?” I roll my eyes and shake my head "I am sure.” He nods and walks towards the kitchen door "alright well I am going back to bed.” He walks towards the stairs and I take a deep breath and look at Hulk "weird.” Hulk tilts his head and barks softly "let’s get back to bed.” I walk towards the stairs checking the front door and lock it behind me before heading upstairs.
