Noel let out an ear-piercing scream.
I reached out and grabbed her, throwing Noel behind me. “Stay back!” I commanded as the figure came closer.
It resembled a high-tech robot but walked with the agility of a human versus the normal choppiness expected from robots. The silver metal covering its outside reflected the faint moonlight, making the robot seem as if it was emitting light itself.
“Defend!” it yelled again as Noel gasped from fear behind me.
The robot jumped forward attempting to shove its metal fist in my face. I ducked under just in time to feel the smooth, cool iron clip my ear. Reaching forward, I grasped the arm, then pulled it toward me, causing it to trip over my leg. The robot fell face-first into the concrete; its metal scrapped against the cracked sidewalk, sending an unsettling screech into the quiet night.
Grabbing Noel, I pulled her alongside me as I ducked behind the nearest house, throwing myself against the brick wall.
“Defend!” the robot screamed as it pushed itself back up, turning in a circle trying to find us. Thinking we ran farther down the street, the robot ran down the sidewalk, away from where we were hiding.
Noel and I remained silent until it fully disappeared down another street.
Right as my breathing began to return to its regular pace, lights started to swirl around me, blocking my vision.
