I groggily woke up from my sleep.
But as soon as I opened my eyes and remembered where I was, the darkness seemed like paradise.
Pressing my eyes shut, I tried to will myself back to sleep, but with the commotion going on around me, I knew I had to give up my idea of eternal abyss.
“What’s going on?” I asked to no one in particular.
It looked as if I was the last one to wake up. Everyone else had gathered around something Thomas was holding.
Suddenly, the plane’s intercom beeped, signaling on incoming message from David. “We have now approached our layover destination. Please fasten your seat belts as we begin our descent.
The teens spread back out to their seats. Thomas handed the Pendant box he was holding to Noel who reclaimed her seat beside me.
“What happened?” I tried again.
“Look!” She hand me the box with the Pendant inside to me. “We missed this, but Sparrow saw it. Hunter thinks that means this Pendant belonged to someone named Melissa, not your grandfather.” Noel showed me the imprint in the side of the box.
I ran my finger over the gold letters. “But then who is Melissa and why was this in my attic?”
Noel shrugged. “Everyone had different opinions. Someone said something about a Herold and Melissa being friends. Enoch believes it may just be a clue, not a name of a person.” She paused. “And I think one of the junior highers said something about a meteorite.”
I furrowed by brow, thinking.
The cabin speaker crackled, interrupting my thoughts. “And we have landed in Bilbao, Spain. I hope you enjoyed the flight. We are currently at our layover and will begin our final leg of the flight in less than an hour.”
Everyone unbuckled and began hustling toward the exits.
“Stay in your seats!” Enoch commanded, blocking the door. “I’m going to look around and make sure we are safe.”
He spun quickly out the door and disappeared.
I let my head fall against the headrest.
We really did go to Europe.
