Speechless, Noel reached into her satchel and withdrew the diary. Holding it up to the thumb drive, we all confirmed the exact match.
“Well,” Hunter stepped forward. “Now we know the diary and the Defendant are related somehow.”
We all stood silently, forming our own theories.
Enoch turned and faced the setting sun. “We should get moving. Where back home the day is just getting started, here it is almost completely dark.”
Noel nodded. “All right. Enoch’s vehicle will lead. James can take the middle. And David can bring in the rear.” She cut herself off. Noel looked back at the place David had disappeared.
An uncomfortable silence fell as everyone remembered what happened before the Defendant’s sudden appearance.
Noel shook her head, pulling herself together. She clapped her hand in an attempt to regain the teens’ attention. “Let’s see if we can get a bus.”
