Hunter Flair: hidden
"Adopted!” I raise my hands in a “praise, Jesus” motion.
I receive multiple surprise glances from the teens. At first, I was confused, then I remember Elizabeth was the only one that knew.
“Right, yeah.” I shrug. “I’m actually from Germany.”
“Du kannst Deutsch sprechen?” Jack spoke excitedly.
My eyes go big. “Hold on. Just because I was born in Germany does not mean I know German.”
Jack sits back disappointed.
“My dad left when I was twelve,” Elizabeth spoke. “He told my mom he was going to a business conference and never returned.” She left out the part where her parents would fight for hours, screaming at each other. I was the only one that knew that part. And Glenn, of course.
“My grandfather had lived with us ever since grandma’s death,” Elizabeth continued. “He mostly kept to himself in his office, researching or rambling about something. Mom used to tell me that he was crazy and to just ignore him. But now, I’m not so sure.”
Her grandfather knew something about everyone’s disappearance.
We just had to find out.
