The teens didn’t nod, but I knew they agreed with me.
“But what does it mean?” Thomas broke the silence. “The glowing blue bar. Look at yours.” He pointed along the gaze of the teens who were already staring above my head. “Yours is huge. Almost double the size of Jack’s.”
Bryant spoke up. “It’s about the size of Enoch’s.”
“But what does the length mean?” Hunter asked. “Like we know it shows when they are using their Flair. Which makes sense since those of us that don’t have Flairs don’t have a blue bar.”
We nodded our agreement to his theory.
“It could mean that those of us with longer bars have stronger Flairs?” someone offered.
“No,” James whispered so quietly I almost couldn’t hear him. “When David first began to fly the plane, the bar was a couple of inches in length. Throughout the entire length of the flight, it grew smaller and smaller till it was completely gone. That was when he disappeared. When the voice called him out.”
“The Call Out.” Elizabeth breathed as we all silently agreed to the new term.
“It’s not strength.” I understood James. “It’s usage.”
“Every time you use your Flair you lose more of your Power Bar. Until it’s completely gone.” Hunter finished.
James nodded.
And an unsettling fear settled around the fire.
“Which means those of us with shorter bars have shorter times left.” Jack blinked.
