Chapter 8.
My dad catches up on me and smirks nodding his head "what?” I shove him and he shrugs and smiles "have fun?” I smile and nod slowly “yeah I actually did.” He nods and smirks “good.” When we get into the car my dad’s phone rings and he grabs it and rolls his eyes “It's grandma.” He take a deep breath and sits up straight before answering the phone "hey mom.” He smiles at me sticking the keys in “yes we are just leaving Slogans now.” He starts the engine and smiles "ok mom see you soon.” He hangs up the phone and sticks it back into his pocket before starting the car and driving of out the car park and down the road. I place my head on the side of the window looking towards the woods at the side of the road and see a large brown looking dog running through the woods the same speed as the car "how fast are we going?” I look at my dad and smile "80 miles why.” I look back at the large brown dog and it slows down and looks towards the car before disappearing into the woods. "Never mind.” I shake my head and rub my eyes “I must be really sleepy.” My dad looks at me and smiles “you say something honey?” I laugh softly and shake my head “oh nothing.” He raises his eyebrows and coughs "okay then." When we slow down I look out and see a building on Its own. He pulls into the car park into a diner “Elle's Diner.” I laugh softly and nod towards the building “I remember coming to this place.” I look at my dad and he smiles and nods "yeah we used to all came here every Friday for dinner.” I look back at the diner and scan the car park “there's a space free next too grandmas car.” My dad drives towards my grandmas car and parks next to it and smiles “they must be here already.” I undo my seatbelt and quickly get out of the car and head towards the diner door “wait for me.” I look back and laugh at my dad as he gets out the car “hurry up then old man.” My dad laughs and runs towards me lifting me up tickling me “old man huh?” He puts me down and pushes me over towards the bushes before running in front of me “well this old man is faster than you.”
My dad beats me too the door and holds it open for me “slow people first.” I walk in and laugh "I will win next time.” My dad walks in and joins my side and smiles when a waitress approaches us "table for 2?” She looks at my dad and he smiles "emm.” He looks around and nods towards the side of the diner "we already have a table but thank you.” The waitress smiles and nods and walks back to the counter "let’s go.” My dad walks towards the side of the diner and I spot my grandparents sitting at a large booth already "grandma!” I run over and sit across from my grandparents and my dad sits next to me and smiles "yous ordered already?” Another waitress woman comes over and smiles "hey Alex.” My dad looks at her and stands up smiling "hey Stacey.” He cuddles her and she smiles at me and nods "wow look at you.” She looks at my dad and smiles "she’s turned into a beautiful young lady indeed.” My dad smiles and sits back down "Misty this is your aunt Stacey.” I look at her and smile “you’re the aunt that sends me birthday cards every year?” She laughs softly and nods “yeah that’s me.” I smile and nod slowly “well at least now I can put a face too the name thank you.” She laughs softly and nods "your welcome.” I look out the window and smile "oh and thanks for the car?” She looks at my grandpa and smiles "is it working ok? if not then blame your grandpa.” I smile at my grandpa and nod slowly "yeah it works perfectly thank you.” She nods and smiles "your welcome my dear.” She looks at my dad and grabs her notepad from her apron “now yous are all here can I get yous a drink?” She grabs a pen from the back of her ear and smiles at my grandparents "yeah we are ready.” She smiles and starts to write down "let me guess.” She points towards my grandpa and smiles "a black coffee for George. A water with ice for Linda. A strawberry shake for Alex and a chocolate one for Misty?” I laugh and nod "how did you know?” She looks at me and winks "you used to love them and I know something don't change.” I smile at her and she looks at my grandparents and they nod "correct as always.” She smiles and sticks the notebook back “I will bring them over now and give yous a minute to look at the food menu.” She smiles and walks towards the kitchen.
My grandma hands me a food menu and smiles "you get anything nice honey?” I nod and take the menu “yeah I got a few things for school and even a few things for the bedroom too make it look a little homelier for me.” My grandma smiles “good.” She nods and take a deep breath "as long as you feel at home and settled that’s all that Matters.” I smile and nod “I only got a few photo frames and new bedding stuff. Nothing major though because I think the room is fine the way it is.” My grandma smiles “good.” I put the menu down and smile "ok I know what I want.” My dad smiles and nods "let me guess.” He looks at the menu and smiles "a double cheeseburger with curly fries.” I roll my eyes and laugh “and.” My dad’s laughs and looks at me and smiles "and a garlic dip.” I take a deep breath and laugh nervously “ok maybe something don't change.” My aunt Stacey comes back over and smiles “ready to order?” My dad looks around and nods “yeah I think so?” My aunt Stacey grabs her pen and notebook and nods towards my dad and he looks at me “a double cheeseburger with curly fries and a garlic dip.” He looks at my grandma and raises his eyebrows “a chicken and cucumber wrap with some wedges.” My grandma smiles and nods slowly and my dad turns too my grandpa and smiles “a chicken burger with a side of corn and BBQ sauce.” My grandpa rolls his eyes and my dad looks back too Stacey and smiles “and a cheeseburger with bacon and onion rings please.” She writes it down and nods towards my dad and smiles “won’t be long.” She smiles at me before turning around and walking towards the kitchen. I look at my dad and laugh softly “damn dad.” He smirks and leans back all proud of himself “you have a good memory.” My grandpa rolls his eyes and sniggers “or because we come here every month and order the exact same thing.” My dad rolls his eyes and shrugs “still impressive.”
My grandma smiles at me and nods “so you excited about starting school?” I nod and smile “yeah.” I count with my fingers and take a deep breath “that's 6 people I will know now.” My grandma smiles and raises her eyebrows “6?” My dad laughs and looks at my grandpa “did you see the animal attacks in Lovettsville?” My grandma looks at my dad and I see him shaking his head “what?” I look at my dad and he drink’s his strawberry milkshake and smiles nervously “am I missing something? is that because of Ethan?” My aunt Stacey comes over and laughs “who is Ethan? The boyfriend I’ve been hearing about?” I shake my head and smile “Ethan Denver.” My aunt Stacey stops and laughs nervously “what?” She looks at my dad and raises her eyebrow "Your boyfriend is Ethan Denver?” She looks back at me and smiles awkwardly "no no my boyfriend’s name is Joe.” She looks at me and take a deep breath in relief "I just met Ethan today and we got talking and arranged to meet up Monday at school.” My dad laughs nervously and leans back avoiding eye contact “I am sorry what?” My grandpa leans forward and shoots an evil look at my dad “here we go.” My grandma sits back and rolls her eyes. I take a deep breath and nod “right ok what's the big deal with Ethan?” My aunt Stacey sticks the food down and shakes her head “I'm not getting involved.” She speed walks away and I look at my dad but he doesn't make eye contact with anyone “we will talk about this later.” He sits up straight and grabs the salt and sticks it on his burger "damn right we will.” My grandpa sits back and cuts his burger in half and my grandma doesn’t even make eye contact with me. I take a deep breath and shrug my shoulders “fine. Whatever.” I pick up the burger and take a big bite out of it and look out of the window the rest of the evening. After dinner my aunt Stacey comes back over and smiles “can I get yous anything else?” My grandma looks at us all and shakes her head “ok I will just get yous the bill.” She places of the plates onto a tray and picks it up and heads back towards the kitchen.
No one still makes eye contact and eventually my grandma take a deep breath “this is ridiculous.” Everyone looks at her and my dad take a deep breath "I know but.” My grandma sticks her hand up and shakes her head "but nothing Alex that’s enough now.” My grandma shakes her head and my dad laughs nervously "what?” My grandma smiles and nods towards me “you can’t stop her from being friends with them.” My dad looks at me and rolls his eyes “I know but I don’t have too like it.” He take a deep breath and looks at my grandpa and he shrugs "I aren’t getting into an argument with your mother over this. She’s right.” I smile towards my grandma and mouth “thank you.” She smiles and nods. When the bill comes my dad hands Stacey his credit card without even checking the price. My grandma stands up and smiles “Right let’s get going then.” My dad stands up letting me out before heading towards my aunt Stacey. My grandma smiles at me and wraps her arm around mine "let’s go.” She nods towards the front door and my grandpa walks in front leading us outside too the car park “I want to go with grandma.” My grandma let’s go of my arm and grabs her car keys from her handbag and smiles "that's fine with me honey.” My dad walks out and nods towards me "ready?” I shake my head and smile "I am going with grandma.” He looks at my grandma and nods "fine. See yous at home.” My grandpa follows my dad and smiles "I will go with Alex.” They get into my dad’s car without saying anything else or even looking at me. We walk towards my grandmas car and get in she laughs and shakes her head “yous two are so alike that when yous fall out it will drag on because yous are both too big headed to apologise first.” I roll my eyes and take a deep breath “I shouldn’t apologise though I didn’t do anything wrong.” My grandma sticks her belt on and smiles “I know honey your dad just doesn’t like the Denver boys as he thinks they are trouble and wanted you to stay away from them.” I turn my body around and take a deep breath “why though? What does he have against them?” My grandma shrugs and starts the car “personal reasons I guess.” I shake my head and laugh nervously “well Ethan and his sister were nice to me so I aren’t going to stop speaking too them because dad says so?” My grandma smiles and nods “I don't blame you honey.” She smiles and nods out the window to a vets at the side of the road "their dad is a lovely man too.” I smile and sit up straight “you know their dad?” My grandma smiles and nods “yeah when we got Hulk we got him checked over and their dad gave us a good deal for him.” I smile and nod “so the whole family is nice?” My grandma nods slowly and smiles "so why does dad have something against them then?” My grandma shrugs and smiles before turning into our street “We should do something.” I look at my grandma and she smiles “like what?” I laugh softly and she shrugs “I don’t know.” She take a deep breath and smiles "Something fun and just us.” I smile and nod slowly “that sounds good."
When we pull up to the house I see my dad’s car stopping and my grandpa getting out and go into the boot and grab my shopping bags before my dad drives of again "where is he going?” My grandma smiles softly and shrugs "no idea honey.” we pass my dad’s car and he doesn't even look at us "work maybe.” She gives me a reassuring look and I nod slowly "maybe.” My grandma parks into the driveway and my grandpa opens the door allowing Hulk out. He runs towards me and jumps up me nearly knocking me down "hey boy It's good to see you too.” I stroke his head and he jumps down and walks right by my side into the house and too the kitchen. I grab a bottle of water from the fridge and grab my shopping bags and smile at my grandma "I am going upstairs and unpack these.” My grandma sits down at the table and smiles "ok honey.” I turn around and walk towards the door "I might have an early night so if I don't come down within an hour it means I am probably sleeping.” My grandma smiles and nods "that's fine honey. See you tomorrow then.” I smile at my grandma before turning around and heading upstairs.
Hulk follows me upstairs and runs into my room when I open the door and jumps onto my bed and lies down "comfortable?” He lifts his head up and tilts it and I laugh softly before placing my bags down on the bottom of the bed and take a deep breath at my suitcase at the side of the bed "I forgot about that.” I look in the drawers and see them all empty and point too them “8 drawers.” I nod towards them and smile "tops. Jeans. Dresses. Pjs. Chill out trousers. Underwear and.” I look at my suitcase and smile "jumpers.” I nod slowly and smile picking up my suitcase and stick it onto the bed and open it. I unpack all my clothes away and after a few changes I finally stick the clothes away. I look around and spot a space under my window for my shoes. I look in the cupboard and see a few cloak hangers and hang my jackets up and the rest of them on the back of my door. "Finally done.” I take a deep breath and grab my bottle of water and take a big chug of it before diving into bed and star fishing it. Hulk jumps up and lies next to me placing his head on my stomach "hey boy.” I sit up and look out the window and see the sun shining through the blinds "want to go for walkies?” Hulk flings his head up and wags his tail "okay then.” I stand up and shove a pair of comfortable shoes on before opening the door and following Hulk as he bolts down the stairs. "Grandma? grandpa?” I look in the living room and kitchen but realise no one is in "that's weird.” I look through the living room window at the front yard and realise my grandma’s car is still outside "where are they?” I run upstairs and head towards their room "hello?” I open their bedroom door and see the both of them sleeping snoring away "typical.” I grab Hulk’s collar and lead "I will leave them a note.” I stick his collar on him and clip his lead onto it and grab a piece of paper and pen "Dear Grandpa and Grandma. Taking Hulk out for a run. Won't be too late.
