I've been writing for about a year and a half now, going on two years in a few months or so. In that time, I've had experience with most writing sites you can find online. There've been some good, some bad, some outright confusing, but there is one shining gem in the list that I've really been lucky to have been invited to.
Penang has really impressed me. I mean, the set-up is really user-friendly, it's so easy to post and comment and like things. The contests feature is really great! Badges is a great incentive, I find myself wanting to collect as many as I can! But there's one piece of the equation that really seals the deal for me.
This little community, ever growing larger and more diverse, is what entices me to the point of never leaving. It's not the stories or the societies or the contests that keep me here, it's the people. The sheer amount of kindness and support, understanding, encouragement, reliability, and trust between this group of people from all over the world is truly magnificent.
The fact that I can be part of this place is a little bit of a dream. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm not supposed to be here, but then I see something great happen everyday and I know I'm home. I never want to leave.
We've been through problems, sure Penana has had some hiccups in the works, and we've solved each one in turn, never failing against what pushes us back. We don't turn on each other, we don't yell, scream or cry when something gets in our way. We prevail, coming out stronger and smarter than we were before. You don't find that anywhere else.
My theory is that because we as a community have built this site up from the ground, added to it, tweaked it, perfected it with our own hands and ideas, we can truly love and appreciate what it has become because we ourselves are a part of it, not just another username with some stories. We belong here, and that will never change.
