There are lots of people who say fanfiction isn't a real genre or it's not a real story, or that no fanfiction can be good because it's not 'original.' Some say that fanfictions are an insult to the author who wrote it.1384Please respect copyright.PENANAjdcRLLtmvR
I say they're wrong.
The characters aren't entirely my own? The story world has already been invented? It's already been published under the person who wrote it first? Well, so what?
Sure, fanfictions aren't 'completely' original. Sure, someone else helped give us the tools necessary to base our own story off of it. And, don't you think it's kind of an honor for a story to have a fanfiction? I mean, some fan liked their story enough to want to write their own based on that universe?
Fanfictions are real stories. Any story is a real story. It was written for the entertainment of the reader. Nowhere in any dictionary definition does it say that only one person can write a type of story. Stories are vast, imaginative things! We can do so much with fanfictions!
There are no good fanfictions? Just because it's a fanfiction genre means it isn't good? How can that be? Why, if fanfictions are not good, do they have such large fan bases? A writer could change all the names and tweak a few things in the story, call it fiction, and then suddenly it's a thousand times better than a fanfiction? Just no.
I love writing fanfictions because you meet amazing people who also love what you love. You meet friends, fellow fans, and people that you can chat with. The people I love to talk to most are those that love reading fanfictions and the same stories they are based on. I love fans because I can relate to them.
My rant for the day.
