鎮釘，俗稱子孫釘
釘棺材的釘子則叫鎮釘，俗稱「子孫釘」,可以使子孫興旺發達，鎮釘一共要用七根釘子，才能奏效。
蓋棺時，在河南一帶，禁忌孝子近前，孝子要在門外候聽。
裡邊釘棺者每敲擊一聲，外邊孝子就要髙呼一聲“勿警”，俗謂之“躲釘”。
入殮加蓋時，須留下一根釘子不釘死，要由其後人加釘。
若係女子或入贅的男子，則由其娘家人或父家的人親手加釘。
山東一帶，如出嫁女在夫家病死，收殮蓋棺必須由女家之父母兄弟親自釘蓋，名曰「引釘」。
如果女家親人不到，丈夫倶不敢專主。
雖中年以後，兒孫滿堂者，亦必如此。
人們認為「天下以舅公為大」。
所以，在封棺時舅家必須來人才行，否則，棺木就不能起動。
棺蓋落釘後，棺縫用骨膠等物塗好，以防空氣、水分和塵土滲入。
為了防止妖魔驚擾亡魂，一隻缽被放置在靈柩蓋上，這是為了確保死者靈魂的安全。
有些地區下葬的時候，會用青碗代替，由子孫在碗底鑽上透明窟窿，來庇佑棺中之人。
在加蓋敲釘時，位於棺木中間的 一顆「子孫釘」禁忌打緊。
要在它上面拴上一條紅線，由孝子用手拉著，木匠輕輕地敲一就算了，意思是「留後」。
禁忌將這顆釘釘死，否則，以為對後代不利。
大兒子拿起鎮釘，輕輕敲打子孫釘後，也就算完成了下葬的第一步工作。
父親端來五色糧，讓大兒子均勻的撒在棺蓋之上，此後,每天三次燒紙哭祭，俗稱「捻香」。
至於其餘所有事物，皆有我與父親共同代勞了。
由於老爺屬於挪棺，並非新葬，所以很多環節都被一筆概括了。
棺木下葬後，開始進行填土，不一會兒功夫，一個大大的墳包就出現在眾人眼前。
