It was another hot day in Kai’s area. Everyone needed a Zooper Dooper and a pool. Kai had neither, though he did have his best friend, Daffi.
Daffodil Banana (also known as Daffi) is a young man with red hair, freckles and blue eyes. He wears glasses but only for reading…or so he says. The two recently became friends but have already been through a lot together. Kai likes to think of Daffi as his safe place.
Kai decided to message his best friend and ask if he wanted to go back to the beach.
“Hey, would you like to go to the beach since it’s hot.”
“Srry man I gotta chill with my cuz today. Unless…”
“Unless what?”
“U wanna come with us to Fun Fields”
“Sure, can you pick me up?”
“👌”
“WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?”
“frgot u txt like a grandpa, it means ok. I can pick you up.”
With that Kai packed some swimmers, sunnies, sunscreen, thongs and snacks then waited at his door. You would assume he's a five-year-old waiting for the ice cream truck to come around with this behaviour. But no, he’s a seventeen-year-old waiting to go to Fun Fields with his favourite person.
He soon heard a honk at his door and rushed out to see a familiar silver car. Inside it was six people.
The first person Kai saw was Daffi's dad. You could tell it was him with brown hair and a massive handlebar moustache. Kai always loved Daffi’s dad's moustache he thought it was epic.
Kai knew everyone in the car but one. Sitting next to Daffi's dad was his mom. She had messy hair and was almost the spitting image of her kids.
Behind her was her youngest son and Daffi's younger brother Darren, he’s about thirteen with brown hair and blue eyes. He was on the shorter side and his face was covered in pimples. The poor kid had been going through it recently.
Next to Darren was a boy Kai had seen a few times. He often went to the Banana’s house. He was Darren's best friend. He had short blonde hair and brown eyes. Kai had learnt the boy's name was Nick. Apparently, the two were childhood friends.
There was an unfamiliar face sitting next to Nick. A girl, she could have been Daffi’s and Darren's sister if not for her green eyes. Kai was excited to meet her.
He walked up to the car and opened the sliding door. He was greeted by a,
“Hi Kai!” from everyone in the car,
Finally, Kai saw his friend Daffi. He was sitting in the foldable seats with a spot for Kai next to him.
“BB honey, could you please hop out for a sec so Kai can go and sit with Daffi?” Kai heard Daffi's mom say,
“So that’s her name,” Kai thought,
When BB hopped out of the car Kai got a better look at her. She had her light red hair in a bun at the top of her head and a colourful necklace on. In the middle there was a bunny charm on the necklace. It was quite cute.
Kai folded back the seat and hopped in, next to his friend who he had been waiting to see.
“Hey man, I hope you don’t mind my cousin. She’s visiting from the UK. She said she wanted to come “Down Under” so her parents kinda sent her. We have to hang out with her today. I hope that’s ok?”
Kai was just happy to be meeting more of Daffi’s family. So of course he eagerly nodded his head.
The drive there was about an hour and a half and during that time Daffi and Kai played many rounds of rock paper scissors. They had made it a competition to see who would win the most rounds. So far Kai was ahead by 32 points. Sometimes BB would join in on their matches and somehow she would always manage to win. Both Kai and Daffi labelled her the “Master of rock paper scissors”.
The car ride was over faster than they had expected. Since the family had rented a hut for the day and would have somewhere to put the things they had brought everyone grabbed their stuff as well as all the snacks Daffi's mom had made. There were assortments of sandwiches and small cakes.
The group checked in and put their wristbands on. Then headed to their assigned hut. It was fully made out of wood. There was a metal gate to get in and a small bed inside. As well as a sink there was also a mini fridge underneath the bench. The group laid out their towels, put their thongs to the side and bags in a corner of the hut.
Everyone had their swimmers on beforehand so luckily no one had to change. Kai brought a plain black swim shirt and some shorts with sharks on them though he decided against the shirt since it was so hot. Daffi had also done the same thing except he had shorts with pineapples and leaves on. While BB wore a yellow one-piece with a few frills near the edges.
“Alright, lovelies you guys can go do whatever. You all know who you need to stick with and just meet back before four! No forcing anyone to do anything and be good. Oh don’t forget, there are snacks in the fridge and in the blue bag! Make sure to eat and walk for a bit before going anywhere!!! We adults will be on some rides too but we will also have our phones so just call us if you need anything! You all have our numbers and Darren honey, don’t spend the entire time playing games you two should go on some waterslides.” Daffi’s mom said,
With that Kai, BB and Daffi headed to the first waterslide they saw. There was a massive circle in the middle and the slide started up high. They could hear people screaming from a mile away. Out of all of them, BB seemed the. Most eager to go while Kai and Daffi seemed to go a bit pale at the sight of the slide. Nonetheless, they wanted to go. They had a problem though. The ride only allowed two people at a time.
Daffi said it would be better if he went with BB since she was younger but she insisted that Kai looked like he would piss his pants if he went alone.
“ HEY, I WOULDN’T! I’m perfectly fine on my own but if one of you guys wants to join me I wouldn’t mind either…” Kai said, attempting to defend himself.
“ Alright, so one of us needs to go with Kai. Daffi, you or me?” BB asked,
The two soon figured it would be best if Kai went with Daffodil.
The three grabbed their doughnuts and made the climb to the top of the slide.
“Nope, Daffi she’s right. I can’t do this.” Kai suddenly blurted when they were close to the top of the slide.
“Oh uhh well we can’t back out now. How about you can squeeze my hand and just look at me the entire time? We’ll sit face to face. It will be okay.” Daffi reassured Kai
“AWWWWWW YOU TWO ARE SO CUTE!” BB said from behind them,
“Shut up. We’re friends.” Daffi told BB,
The two cousins argued the rest of the way up, while Kai enjoyed listening to their bickering. It had been ages since he had seen any of his own family. Since his Mom and Dad had been too into their own issues and seemed to forget about everything else.
Kai and the rest soon made it to the top. BB and them would go at the same time. So as the ride guy shouted go, both of them pushed off.
There were lots of screaming as they fell down. Water splashed on everyone’s face and hair. Kai and Daffi were regretting going shirtless. As the water droplets hit their chests they felt little stings. But both of them were too busy screaming.
“OH MY GOD KAI MY HAND BRO. IT'S GOING TO BREAK!” Daffi screamed over the sounds of splashing water,
“HUH? DAFFI NO DAFFI WERE STUCK. WHY ARE WE STUCK!” Kai screamed back in panic,
“I DON'T KNOW USE YOUR ARMS AS PADDLES OR SOMETHING! WE NEED TO BE GOING DOWN THE HOLE!” Daffi also said in a panic,
The two boys did use their arms as paddles and soon made it to the middle. It wasn’t as big of a deal as they made it seem. They were just being dramatic as they would soon learn.
The slide continued for a short bit, both boys still screaming. Until they suddenly hit a stop.
“Oh, it wasn’t that bad,” Kai said,
“We’re too dramatic,” Daffi stated,
“Yes, you two are. What kept you so long? I heard you screaming about something but I couldn’t tell what.” BB asked,
“Oh uhh the thing stopped moving and we freaked out…”Kai and Daffi explained,
“You two…are so dumb. That was meant to happen you’re meant to just chill while the water glides you. It’s so you don’t go too roughly through the hole,” BB stated making the boys feel dumb.
They left that ride and then continued to walk to another one. Then Kai asked,
“Hey, how old is she?”
“I don’t know…she’s not much younger than us I think?” returned Daffi,
“Geez, how do you not know this stuff?” inquired Kai,
“Uhh, I don’t talk to her much. She’s like a distant cousin?” Daffi tried to explain,
“HEY I CAN HEAR YOU TALKING ABOUT ME!” yelled BB from ahead,
With that, the boys stopped their conversation and caught up to BB. The next ride they went on was much less crazy. Just a nice small waterslide in the kid's section. BB thought the two would need a break.
The group had a nice relaxing time at that waterslide and then came a new challenge. The “Gravity wave”. BB had wanted to go on this one so badly but Kai and Daffi had very different opinions. This ride had the option for three people so that's what happened. BB, Daffi and Kai climbed to the top. When it was their turn they hopped into their doughnut and waited for the lady to give the group a heads-up. Then they pushed off.
As soon as the doughnut started moving the boys started screaming. BB was quite calm compared to the two next to her. You would assume they were on different rides. Only when the doughnut started to rock around the slide did BB grip the handles of the doughnut tighter.
Then came the worst part the big sliding bit where the doughnut would slightly come off the waterslide. The group seemed to forget that bit of the ride because when it came there was a range of surprising faces and Daffi yelled,
“OH MY GOD HOW DID WE MISS THAT, BB WHY DID YOU WANT TO GO ON THIS!”
Alas BB was too scared to even open her mouth as they had just entered the worst part. The doughnut swung back and forth while the three held on for their lives. Kai screamed while his grip on Daffi's hand tightened, Daffi swore and BB was silent but you could see the fear in her eyes.
The ride soon ended and the group got off the doughnut.
“Who wants to go again?” BB asked,
She seemed to be the first person to regain their senses. While Daffi and Kai were still stunned holding each other's hands.
“Nope, you can go alone,” Kai answered,
“What he said, I’m not doing that again,” Daffi followed with.
BB laughed knowing that would be their answer. The group walked back to the hut after getting off the shock to have a snack. Kai grabbed a few of the chocolate cakes Daffi's mom had made while Daffi and his cousin snacked on some sandwiches.
BB suggested they try a few more dry rides this time. Both of the boys agreed so that's where they walked too next. There were a few different rides but Daffi and Kai were adamant to try the Go Karts. Both of them were still learning to drive and thought this would be a fun idea.
The three of them argued about what to go on first as BB wanted to ride the “Voodoo 360” but the boys wanted something that wouldn’t make them vomit. In the end, the boys won as BB has chosen the ride before.
Annoyingly there was a massive cue for the Go Karts so the group played the most popular park game, the waiting game as well some more rock paper scissors. Soon enough they made it to the front of the line. Each of them chose a car and put on the seatbelt. When the instructor showed them the green light they all took off around the circuit.
Kai was loving it. He felt amazing with the wind blowing through his hair and the sound of engines around him. Anyone would see the massive smile on his face. Daffi swore he had never seen his best friend so happy before, besides the day they went to the beach. Kai had the same childlike smile that went out to both his ears. Daffi was always happy knowing he was one of the reasons Kai could smile so much.
After that ride was finished they went on all the other ones from the pirate ship to the one BB wanted to try. After going on both of those Daffi swore if he didn’t have a break they would see those sandwiches again.
So both Kai and BB agreed that they had enough too. The group went to the wave pool to take a break as it was one of the few things they hadn’t gone to. There they met up with Nick and Darren. Both of the boys had tried everything but the “Blackout” waterslide. Coincidently Kai, Daffi and BB also hadn’t done that slide. So they decided that would be the last slide then would come back and spend the rest of their time in the wave pool.
The last slide they chose was pitch black inside and apparently very disorientating. Not to her surprise, BB had to go buy herself again. But after her past experiences, she didn’t really think of it as a loss…more of a blessing for her ears if anything.
In the end, BB was right, she had saved her ears going alone. Because when Kai, Daffi, Darren and Nick went down the slide all you could hear was profanity and screaming. Kai and Daffi had gone together, the two boys screamed the entire way as they couldn’t tell what was going on. While Darren and Nick fell off their doughnut during the slide and that’s where the most profanities were heard. And BB? She just cruised down the slide and enjoyed the darkness.
After that everyone played in the wave pool splashing each other, swimming and challenging each other until it was time to go. The car ride back was full of rock paper scissors, talking and laughing.
Once Kai was dropped off at his house the first thing he did was run to his room and start telling his friend about the amazing day he had.
AIGHT FINALLY IT’S OVER. Sorry, this was so long. I hope you enjoyed it! Fun Feilds is an actual place so if you want better ideas of what the rides look like just google it. I honestly had so much fun writing this one!
