You think I would feel something as soon as I could hear no heartbeat, but there was nothing. No pulse, no breath, and no heartbeat—there was nothing. Just silence. I just sat there beside him, not sure what to do. I had no one here to help me, and I knew for myself that I would have to face this alone.

Time began to move again as I ran upstairs in a very fast movement, entering the room I was looking for. I opened the door with a loud bang and ran to the closet, throwing all of my clothes in a suitcase. What else could I do? I had to make it look like I left ages ago so they wouldn't come looking for me when they find my father dead on the living room floor. I couldn't get all my stuff in my suitcase, but there was enough for me to live with. Without a glance back at my old room, I ran out the door and on to the hallway, my suitcase trailing behind me. I stopped in a halt as I saw my mother's room. I was never allowed to enter after she died. My dad said I didn't deserve to remember her, but I know I did. Letting go of my suitcase, I pulled the door handle down, feeling the cold metal touch my skin. The door creaked open in a slow movement, showing my mother's bedroom. I gasped. It was exactly how it used to be; nothing had changed. My mother's perfume smell hit me as I took the first step. It seemed sad that I hadn't entered this room in two years. I made my way to the bed, sat down, looked around, and began thinking of my mom. Could it be true? Could my mom cheat on my dad?

"Did you do it, mom?" I whispered, knowing I wouldn't get an answer.

As I scanned the room, something caught the corner of my eye. I made my way to the object I saw. Bending down, I saw a shiny shoe box; this had never been out before. Did my dad put it here? I was about to open it when I heard a slam downstairs. Not knowing what or who it could be, I grabbed the box and ran out of the bedroom, grabbing hold of my suitcase. I made my way down the stairs. Looking to my left and right, I ran to the front door and yanked it open, running away from home. My old home With one look back, I walled down the street, not sure what direction or place I was heading. Suddenly, my suitcase was out of my hands, and I got turned around by my shoulder.

"Where the hell do you think you're going? He snapped at me with pure anger in his eyes. Why is he the one mad at me?
179Please respect copyright.PENANAGb0PeDVeiD
"Far away from you," I snapped right back at him. Reaching out my hand, I tried to get my suitcase back.

"Claire, listen, she-"
179Please respect copyright.PENANAR3nZDmMLCr
"Save it, Jason, for someone who cares," I said. I was walking away from him, not caring if I left my suitcase; I was dead in the next couple of days anyway.
179Please respect copyright.PENANARnN0CCA5E0
"Claire, stop walking away from me; it wasn't my fault; it was an accident," he shouted while I was walking away. I stopped and turned back around.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAW3yuiXHOjS
"What? You fell on her mouth? Because that is the lamest excuse I have ever heard of," I snapped, making my sides hurt as I got madder.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAPE756wxOfL
"No, Claire, I didn't mean it like that," he sighed, no longer raising his voice.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAitcGnoCdiU
"It's fine, Jason, just take me home," I sighed. I gave up; there was no point arguing that I would be gone soon and I wouldn't have to deal with this.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAMfYdWuhHIV
"What? You forgive me?" he asked, and by the expression on his face, he was happy and shocked, which will change in any second.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAtzW1TlixpC
"What is there to forgive? We were never in a relationship to begin with," I said, walking back towards him.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAierGnpX9G6
"Oh," he said. All he could say was, Oh. That is why I should never get involved with guys, dead or alive.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAoxps61Bqp7
"Can we go home?" I asked, feeling my knees about to buckle any minute and my eyes about to drop.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAuEBirFUZyz
"Claire, are you okay?" He asked with a sincere look on his face, coming closer to me.

The next thing I knew, Jason's arms were wrapped around me, and I was sobbing into his chest. I wasn't sobbing about my father or the fact that Jason kissed someone else. The real reason I was sobbing my eyes out was because I knew this was the end. Sad, depressing, and lonely, I know. We stood there for a couple of minutes when Jason messed with my long, curly hair and raised his hand to wipe the tears streaming down my face.

"Come on, let's go home," he said, wrapping his arms around my waist, walking me to his car, and opening the door. removing myself from Jason, I stepped into his car, and he shut the door behind me.

Without noticing we were already driving home, I looked out the window, watching the trees go by.

"Claire?"
179Please respect copyright.PENANApJxvYVKiDI
I turned my head towards Jason. "Yeah?"
179Please respect copyright.PENANACvopzWoHuW
"Why were- you crying?" he asked, grabbing on to the wheel tightly and looking straight ahead.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAqxgigLoWmd
"I know it's time," I whispered back at the window.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAUgheySJhpU
"Time? Time for what?" He asked with a confused face. This would hurt him if I told him what I was about to say, but if I told him now, he could prepare himself for it.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAGgL5F5CTtu
"You know it's time for me to go up or down," I said, pointing up and then down.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAXSG5ubmeOh
Jason hit the brakes, making me go forward and nearly hitting my head against the dashboard.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAUI1W2Ss8zI
"Claire," he said, with no angry face on him at all. It surprised me.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAMRnbgC7XJ5
"I know," I said, knowing what he was thinking as soon as his face turned to me.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAr6syXD85I0
"You can't die, Claire; I won't let you!" He sighed in frustration and slammed his fist on the wheel.
179Please respect copyright.PENANArxvV4B9kqR
Time to change the subject "Why did you kiss her?" I asked, looking down at my hands and then reluctantly back at him.
179Please respect copyright.PENANANuv0Yg4qCJ
He sighed "Ruby, she has a power to draw men to her; most women vampires do, but they can only do it when you are at your weakest. I haven't eaten in days, Claire, and she just, you know- I never meant to hurt you," Jason said with a solemn face.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAChrzSpxjwb
"I know you never meant to kiss her, right?" I blurted it out.
179Please respect copyright.PENANA5oCzMFCaNW
"Claire-"
179Please respect copyright.PENANABApbLMQ39t
"I know you're sorry, right?" I snapped. I don't know where this was coming from. I was just mad.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAM7VPjfYD7j
"Claire I said I was sorry. What else do you want from me?" he said as his eyes turned red.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAdAIKSwXtqx
"I want you to know that I'm going to die, and you need to accept that!"
179Please respect copyright.PENANACrlmmM4jag
"Accept it. How the fuck am I meant to accept something like that, Claire?"
179Please respect copyright.PENANANDYkIafKTb
"You just have to!" I snapped, getting angry by the minute.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAD4jgo6hSPx
"Like, I have to accept Fayte is dead, that you have cancer, and your dad beats you up. You know what, Claire? You shouldn't have gone down that ally. I wish I never met you." As soon as he said it, my heart stopped and my face fell. You could see it in his eyes; he regretted saying that.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAHNJ6QiogSo
"You will never get past Fayte and move on; the cancer will kill me, so it will be like you never met me, and you don't have to worry about my dad; he is dead!" I shouted and opened the car door, then slammed it shut. The wind blew in my face, and the heavy rain was drenching my clothes, but I carried on walking. I heard Jason getting out of the car.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAgI7BAWNCNP
"Claire!" he shouted, making me turn my head and making my drenched hair go against my face. Tears formed in my eyes as I saw Jason's face. nothing but sadness on his face. I shivered as the cold breeze hit me, making more tears run down my face. Time seemed to stop, and it felt like only me and Jason were the only people on earth.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAzwBIeXGoML
Slowly, Jason made his way to me, taking every step slowly. I just watched him come closer to me, noticing how sad he looked, and it broke my heart. That was when I knew what I thought and felt about him. He was centimetres away from me now.

"Cassandra." Saying my full name like that made my heart beat faster, like it was going to jump out of my chest any minute. Raising his hand, he smoothly removed the tear sliding down my cheek. Even though his hand was cold and heavy rain was falling on us, I never felt so warm. He moved closer to my face, and I realised how close our lips were, letting out one last breath before he kissed me. Not butterflies, but birds fluttered in my stomach as he ran his hands on my waist, making me wrap my arms around his neck and enjoy every second of his sensational kiss. As his lips parted from mine, I gasped as he left me breathless and wanting more. I closed my eyes, feeling his lips still linger close to mine. My eyes snapped open as someone grabbed my hand. I looked into Jason's eyes, falling too deeply in lust with him. Looking down at me, he swiftly moved a piece of hair away from my face and said three words that made my heart flutter.

"I love you," he whispered. And me Claire Dawson replied with four words back.
179Please respect copyright.PENANA9a2Wi3b1au
"I love you too," I replied without any hesitation, and I meant every word. I didn't know that I did until this perfect moment, and it was the exact moment that everything shattered to pieces. Jason gave me one of his famous smiles and walked with me as we headed back to the car when I felt the most umberable pain. I gasped, and my hand slipped out of Jason's hand as I fell to the ground, holding on to my stomach and my life.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAeS5iwaPzE7
"Claire!" he screamed out, dropping to my level.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAf33BUJmuiv
"Told you it was time," I gasped out in a shaky laugh. He didn't find it that funny, as the pain became more umbearable. I wish I had more time. There was a lot of stuff I wanted to do and a lot of people I wanted to say goodbye to.
179Please respect copyright.PENANApdvDbsWPeo
"Claire, come on, get up; we need to get you to a hospital." He rushed out while grabbing on to my arm, but I shook it off.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAo85jaONfRG
"There is no point." I gasped out and lied on the floor, making it seem less painful.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAnR41s3EDeq
"Don't say that; get up now!" he shouted, making me flinch.
179Please respect copyright.PENANA7Fc3eLe4fV
"No, I can do! Jason, I can't breathe." I gasped out as I felt myself fading into darkness.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAtsXhvTKrvQ
"I'm sorry, Claire," he whispered.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAhcUmX85R2H
I looked up at him with a confused face. "For what?"
179Please respect copyright.PENANAuk6SggDixa
"For this," he said, and before I could stop it, even though I couldn't in my condition, he bit into my neck, making me let out a shaky sob. The pain was too much to handle. I felt myself sleeping into darkness, but someone was stopping me.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAQtawPt3BSk
"No, Claire, drink!" He shouted and slapped me across the face lightly for me to grunt in pain, and my eyes slightly opened to see Jason hold his wrist out with blood pouring from it.
179Please respect copyright.PENANAlcsoiTiNnb
"Drink," he demanded, but I shook my head. That didn't stop him; he forced his wrist to my lips, making one drop of blood enter my mouth, making me want more, and before I knew it, I was sucking his blood. Gross, I know, but part of me enjoyed it more than I should. With one last gasp, I fell into darkness, but not until I heard Jason whisper the three words that made my no longer beating heart flutter.
