It was a dismal night, as Katherine appeared after escaping a prison world. She’d ended up there after Stefan had killed her again to destroy hell and save everyone in Mystic Falls. Since hell was what had made her a vampire again, she was a human again.
Realizing she was in New Orleans, she began walking, heading for the compound. As she did, she kept a look out for any vampires. Descended from Travelers or not, she was still a human. She had to be careful. New Orleans seemed quiet though, which was strange. It made her wonder what had happened. That’s when, before entering the compound, she heard a commotion. When she snuck in, she saw a crowd surrounding a circle Klaus was in, someone else in it with him. She realized he was one of Klaus’ enemies, when Klaus bit him. She also noticed Marcel there, watching, and she saw that there were chains on Klaus’ wrists. This gave her the conclusion that Klaus was Marcel’s prisoner.
She walked around the back of the crowd until she saw an opening in it. Then she came to the front to stand between the circle and Marcel, looking at Marcel.
“Enough!” she blurted. “Let him go,” she ordered Marcel.
“You know I can’t do that, but it’s nice to see you again,” he replied.
“We made a deal, Marcel. Or have you forgotten what I made you promise me all those years ago? You are not to hurt or kill or try to kill any of the Mikaelsons. You break that deal and you make an enemy out of me,” she reminded him.
“You don’t know what happened. You disappeared off the face of the earth. Besides, they bring death and destruction everywhere they go. They deserve what they get,” he replied, not fazed by her anger.
“What have you done?” she asked him.
“I’m not who you once knew me as. I’m worse than Klaus now; better. I took a serum. Now, if I bite someone, they die in two hours. Well, vampires anyway. I’ve imprisoned Klaus as punishment for his sins and bit Kol and Elijah three years ago, but they must’ve found a way to still live, since no one in their bloodline has yet to die,” he boasted to her.
“You crossed the line big time and now, guess what? You’ve made an enemy out of me. Not only did you put people I care for in danger, but also you almost killed most of the Mikaelsons. I’d love to see what Rebekah will do, but for now, you’ll have to deal with me. You also have left Hope without a father. Take it from me. Time you’ve lost in raising your child can never be bought back. Now, I’m getting Klaus out of here and back to his family. I’d love to see you try to stop me, because you can’t.” She scanned the crowd of vampires. “In case you don’t know who I am, I’m Katherine Pierce. I’m sure you’ve heard the stories. Now, if you want to live, I suggest you leave now. Otherwise, you’ll find your hearts on the floor,” she introduced and threatened.
She was satisfied, when they all fled.
She turned back to Marcel. “This is your minor punishment until later.” She magically gave him a migraine, bringing him to his knees in pain, before she magically snapped his neck.
She turned around to see the guy getting to his feet now, sword in hand again. She magically undid the spell that had been cast on the circle.
“How about you?”
“I’m not afraid of you,” he replied.
“Really? What’s your name?”
“Alistair,” he introduced.
“No wonder. I’ve heard of you. Never liked you. I’m going to give you the gift of not having to suffer anymore.” She magically through him out of the circle, which made him lose the sword, and she magically made his heart be ripped out, killing him.
Throughout all of this, Klaus had silently been watching, still on the ground. Who knew that she’d be the one to rescue him someday. He was weak from all he’d been through in the last three years.
She turned around and approached him, before kneeling by him. She realized that he was very weak.
“Katerina?” he questioned, knowing she was supposed to be dead.
“I’m rescuing you. I promise I don’t have any motives against you. I’ve been through literal hell and back, got killed, and then somehow came back to life and ended up here for some reason. Let’s get you back to your family. Where are they?”
She put an arm around him and helped him to his feet once she’d taken the chains off him.
He weakly informed her where they were, as he let her help him.
She used her body weight and strength to hold him up, as she walked him towards the nearest car she saw, realizing how weak he truly was.
As he let her help him, everything began to go black for him. As it did, he heard her trying to get him to stay awake, but he was just too weak and starving from the lack of blood for three years. A vampire would’ve been desiccated by now, but as a hybrid, it only weakened and starved him.
She reached the SUV and got him into the passenger seat, before going to the driver’s side to try the different wires, needing to hotwire it.
After a few minutes, she was driving to the destination of the Mikaelsons. As she did, she hated to admit it, but he was so weak, it worried her. She also noticed how pale he was. She knew from his state, that Marcel had either barely fed him, or not at all.
“Stay with me, Klaus,” she encouraged.
Once she got to the abandoned warehouse, she somehow managed to get him out of the car and walk towards the warehouse with him.
When she got inside, she layed him on his back as gently as she could. Then she turned to face them. She knew Hayley, but the blonde was a new face, as was the tied up werewolf. She’d know a werewolf anywhere.
“Katherine?” Hayley questioned.
“Long story. After you all left town, I was angry since I thought Elena had some fault with Elijah leaving me. I tried to kill her and she shoved the cure down my throat. Then I died of old age for a moment, but not until I was reunited with my daughter. When I went back into my body, I body jumped into Elena. Everyone found out and Stefan killed me. I went to hell and when the devil was killed, I came back, only to get killed by Stefan again. Then I was sent to a prison world. When I escaped, I suddenly found myself in this city. Then when I realized what I missed, I rescued Klaus. Now I plan on helping cure everyone.”
Hayley hadn’t known that she’d had a daughter of her own. After hearing that news, she felt sorry for her. She also was shocked that Katherine had rescued Klaus. She realized that she’d somewhat changed.
“Well, Freya’s making the cures plus extra batches, in case they’re ever bitten again.”
“This family never ceases to get more complicated. Freya must’ve been somewhere else all these centuries, instead of being dead. Doesn’t surprise me that Esther lied. She was quite a bitch,” Kat replied.
Half an hour later, they were all cured and Kat had fed Klaus some blood bags.
Kat stood outside for them to catch up, but also because she’d seen that Elijah had moved on to Hayley. She felt like she didn’t belong. She also felt betrayed and upset. She tried not to show it though. She knew now that she’d lost him for good.
She began to walk away, knowing she wasn’t needed, but then felt a gentle hand on her right arm, which stopped her.
“Katerina.”
She didn’t look at him.
“Don’t. I’m happy you’re alive, but clearly I’m not needed here. You’ve already moved on, so there’s no need for me to be here any longer.”
He let go of her, realizing that she felt betrayed. He knew there was nothing he could say. He could only let her have her space.
She walked away, leaving him there, and headed for the compound to deal with Marcel. She needed something to take her anger out on and Marcel was it.
Before she got to the compound, she was attacked by a vampire. She was able to stake him, but she’d been fed on and injured. She’d been stabbed with a branch she’d tried using on the vampire. She’d pulled it out, so now she was injured and losing a lot of blood. Knowing she couldn’t stay in the open, she ended up in an alley.
She sat down, an arm to her wound, hand on her side, hoping to slow the bleeding. It didn’t work though and everything began to go black.
An hour after leaving to go find Katerina, hoping to get her to come back to help them with Marcel, he found her in an alley.
He blurred to her side.
“Katerina.”
He slid an arm behind her and gently pulled her into his arms. She was so pale with slow, shallow breathing, and a slow heart. He moved his arm up to support her head. He knew he couldn’t let her die. She’d saved him. It was only fair for him to save her. He slide an arm under her legs and got to his feet, before blurring back to get Freya to heal her. He only hoped that it wouldn’t be too late to save her.
Klaus entered the warehouse quickly and gently layed her down on a table Freya had made the cures on earlier.
“Freya!” he called.
She came in from another part of the warehouse to see what was wrong. That’s when she saw Katherine on the table, Klaus by her.
“What happened?” she questioned, as she approached.
“I don’t know. I found her like this. It looks like she was stabbed and fed on, though. I need you to heal her.”
She went to stand by them. Then she hovered her hands over her wounds.
Elijah watched silently, having come in behind his elder sister. He shouldn’t have let her go. He was a fool to think that she’d be okay on her own. She was human now. A human caught between a war was most likely going to suffer. He couldn’t bare the sight or thought of her suffering the consequences. He cared for her and always would.
Please, don’t leave me, Katerina, he thought, as if it would will her to live.
Rebekah and Kol entered after their siblings to also see Katherine on the table, Freya using her magic to heal her. They didn’t want her to die. He’d never known her to even hate her, while Rebekah didn’t despise her enough to want her dead anymore. Instead, she was thankful that she’d helped reunite their family. Klaus had told her what had happened.
A few minutes later, he wounds had been healed, so she lived. So, after she recovered, they all joined a united front together. They headed for the compound together, as one, to defeat Marcel and get the compound back.
A few hours after the battle and after the aftermath, they welcomed her to stay, in which she did.
Rebekah was in her room, as was Hayley. Hayley was in bed, but Rebekah was standing on her balcony, the battle having had to end with Marcel’s death. She stood there, looking at the dismal night, lost in memories, grieving in her own way.
In the meantime, Elijah was also in his room, deep in thoughts and memories, but they were of Katerina. They’d fixed things between each other, but he knew they’d never have a second chance, because his heart belonged to Hayley. He hoped that she’d understand someday. As for Niklaus, they still had mending to do now that he knew that Klaus had known of her impending death, but had had no intention of telling him.
Katherine stood on her balcony, when she suddenly saw Klaus next to her.
“I didn’t get a chance to thank you, Katerina. You saved me. You saved us all.”
They looked at each other.
“Well, nobody deserves to be treated that way. How’s Hope?”
“She’s asleep. I’ve come to realize that I don’t want to lose you, Katerina, just as I realize you now feel for me. We all almost lost you. I think it’s time to turn a fresh page and try to forget the past. Life is too short.”
She smiled in agreement.
“That, I can agree on.”
Seeing their page needing to start fresh, and since it was such a moment, they kissed.
