Genesis
Ch.25
vs.1-6: So Abraham had another wife. We never talk about her. All of his descendants went eastward. It says he gave everything to Isaac but while he was alive he gave gifts to his other sons.
vs. 7-11: So Ishmael came back to help bury his father Abraham. Abraham and he must have had contact after he sent Hagar away.
vs. 12-18: Ishmael is fascinating to study. Unlike with Esau, there is not really anything negative the Bible says about him. He just wasn't the promised son of Sarah. It is interesting to me to see how people can choose to serve even back in the old testament. There are plenty of people mentioned who are not Hebrew but are shown favor in some way by God.
vs. 19-21: Interesting that Isaac prayed to God but we don't see Rebekah seeking the Lord for children. We also don't have any indication that she was too concerned about her lack of children.
vs. 22-26: Rebekah seeks God when there seems to be trouble with the pregnancy. God speaks to her as well. We don't see the spouse converse with God much but Rebekah does here. interesting the relationship between Isaac and Rebekah. You can tell God ordained it.
vs. 27-28: Favoritism even now. It seems though that Jacob was a thoughtful man.
vs. 29-34: Esau sold his birthright for soup. That's why fasting is so important. To control your urges and put your flesh under submission.
Ch.26
vs. 1-5: God makes a promise to Isaac but he also tells Isaac it is because his father followed after Him. Interestingly there are those of us who benefit from our parents' faithfulness. Either with knowing God or being blessed from the faithfulness and God Himself. It can be easy to mistake your parent's covering for your own. Your parent's religion is not yours until you personally know God. He will bless you because of them but don't think that necessarily means that you are right with God. Seek him for yourself.
vs. 6-11: Abimelech was smart this time. He wasn't about to be fooled twice. You would think Isaac would remember Abemelich's goodwill from the first time. Also, he knew they we husband and wife because they laughed together. How sweet. Get you a man who makes you laugh.
vs. 12-16: Wow, how petty to fill the wells with dirt out of jealousy. We see God's favor on Isaac just as He favored Abraham.
vs. 17-22: The Lord has made room for us. How sweet. Also, Isaac rebuilt the wells that were unkept.
vs. 23-25: Isaac's first altar. He sees God here. God is establishing His relationship is Isaac now.
vs. 26-33: Abimelech made a pact with Isaac to do no harm.
vs. 34-35: How sad. It doesn't look like Esau spent much time looking for a good spouse to please God. 197Please respect copyright.PENANAX0nBFakBrs
Ch. 27
vs. 1-4: Isaac was going to bless Esau even with the agreement between Esau and Jacob about the birthright.
vs. 5-13: Rebekah was going to make sure that Jacob got blessed. It is always sad when a family has quarrels.
vs. 14-17: I kind of feel bad for Esau but it does say that he and his two wives made torment upon Isaac and Jacob.
vs. 18-21: It shows Isaac knew how deceitful Isaac could be. He wanted to make sure it was Esau.
vs. 22-25: Isaac you tried. Sorry that you weren't able to pull through that last stretch.
vs. 26-29: That is a good blessing.
vs. 30-28: How sad. That deceitful trait will continue on in Jacob's line. We see it even in Joseph with his ploy over his brothers and the cup.
vs. 29-41: The blessing made it worse for Esau.
vs. 42-46: Rebekah sends Jacob to her brother Laban. What an awkward cut-off to this chapter.
Mathew
Ch 9
vs. 1-8: The scribes were skeptical of Jesus implying He took glory away from God however the onlookers all marveled at God. What Jesus did gave Glory to the Father
vs. 9: Mathew doesn't spend much time on the disciples. He acknowledges what it is but he is more concerned with showing the divinity of Christ to the Jews.
vs. 10-13: Nice, Jesus is absolutely right. I loved this scene in the choosen.
vs. 14-17: These are interesting comparisons. Until Jesus dies and the disciples are reborn they have no need to fast. Putting the new spirit in their old law is going to break both. There is each a time.197Please respect copyright.PENANA5xm95qB7wH
vs. 18-22: God has time for you. Jesus healed this woman on the way to another.
vs. 23-26: Jesus covered up HIs miracle as best HE could. The word still got out.
vs. 27-31: What good does it do to tell them to be quiet, they never are. 😂
vs. 32-34: Yeah sure. He casts out demons because He is one. Like, where's the logic there? When someone makes up their mind and sets their heart on something nothing even irrefutable evidence will sway them.
vs. 35-38: The harvest is great but the laborers are few. Very true.
