Matthew places his hand on the small of my back, as he guides me through the restaurant to a table. I've no previous experience of this sort of occasion in order to draw insight from and I don't know how to act so I just decide being myself is going to have to be enough. I've never officially met a guys mum before and it's daunting.

The music is low and the place looks trendy with just a little bit of a rustic feel. Candles line each table. The paintings on the walls are really tasteful and I find myself staring at them. Matthew talks me through the different techniques used in each painting and I find him absolutely fascinating, I gaze from him to the pictures and he smiles warmly at me.

Steve and Matty's mum, Linda, sit next to each other facing away from us. Linda I can already tell is beautiful even though I haven't seen her face yet. She's wearing a long shawl which is silver and a dress with flat shoes. She has the same dark brown shade of hair as her son. And a small frame. Steve with his close cropped hair is wearing a polo shirt and jeans.

Matty walks around the table to face them holding my hand. I see Linda's face pretty much glow with the smile on her face at the sight of Matthew her son. She looks at him holding my hand and is delighted.
