Jays POV

The Tasman sea is always somewhere I felt out of place, but here we are. Away from California, it's the summer and so my mother has decided family time is a must. Family time for me is nothing short of a boredom fest, I would rather be flirting with girls back home on the beach alone with my surf board.

"Jay" Claire, my mother calls out. Lounging back in the sun. My mother works hard. She's not your typical packed lunch maker, kiss your boo boos mom. My father is still working, during family time. I scowl, even though his due diligence is the very reason we have multiple homes and jets to take us to them.

My lifestyle is very unlike that of my peers. Yet I get on with my friends like they are my family. I briefly wonder what Matthew is doing back in California, counting down the weeks until we get to hang out again and catch up over a few beers.

"Yea mom" I call back placing my surf board down. Pushing my ashy blonde hair back and striding up the sand to her. We're on an exclusive beach, it's practically empty. Again, our lifestyle is different to your average American.

"Can you just grab me another French martini" she smiles and I give in doing as she pleases. I do look older than my nineteen years. I've trained hard, we have a gym in almost every one of our homes. I remember my protein days, my mum laughing as I shook up shakes in the kitchen in California. All in the pursuit of the built body I have now. The hours of lifting. The morning runs alongside the lake.

I nod to the guy behind the beach bar, he remembers our order, quickly setting on making up mom's cocktail and grabbing me another water. I don't drink around my mother, it's purely out of respect. Should something happen to her and I am drunk, consequently unable to handle the situation not only would my dad lecture me but I would not be able to forgive myself. I'm a guardian and a protector of my own mother.

The drinks are put on our tab for dad to pay, it's his way of being around at family time without actually being here. I stride back down the sand looking out at the tide. A blonde girl in a silver bikini looks over at me, and I dismiss the attention. I'm with my mother, not my mates. I want to surf, not pick up girls.

Matthew and I, have known each other for years. Matty skateboards and I surf. We fight about girls all the time, yet somehow we always manage to remain friends.

Setting mom's drink down she thanks me and I pull out my phone sending him a message, it's most likely night there but he'll be awake with Ross. And most probably the girls.

How's it going man, be back soon. Don't do anything I wouldn't. I send the message and look down at mom. He's a year younger than me; I've taught him everything he knows.

"You got a girl yet?" She laughs and I smirk at her. She wants to marry me off, not a chance. Marriage isn't for me. I love the attention of girls just not the continuous commitment.

"Mom" I say laughing and she winks at me. My mother and father married at twenty, it was simple for them. They aren't madly in love or anything but they chose each other and stayed with each other. It most probably helps that often they work in separate countries.

"Oh Jay all of the girls look at you try and stick to one" she laughs and I walk down the beach with my surf board. Pushing my blonde hair back, set on riding a wave whilst the current is good. Looking out for a good three metre wave to surf.

The water hits me and the Tasman sea suddenly feels welcoming and like home. I set off with my board intent on forgetting about my mother and her need for me to have girlfriend. Her need for me to be a good guy who provides her with a family and grandchildren to dote after. Her aspirations and hopes for me far exceed my intentions for my life.
