Linda sweeps her brunette hair back and our eyes meet briefly. She pours me a glass of red and smiles. We've ordered mains, she opted for a seafood dish I note. The males have both ordered steak whilst I picked a chicken dish.

"Are you off to the same uni as Matthew next year then" Steve asks, interested. He seems like a genuine guy, simple and easy to get along with. He has a few tattoos on his forearm and is wearing a nice watch.

The rest of the evening passes quickly, Linda and Steve are really nice company. Steve talks with Matty about cars and his 4x4. Linda engages me in conversation about Matthew and shares stories of his childhood. We talk about the time he ran off into the rose gardens, and I inform her about our visit there just the other day. She raises her eyebrows at him, assuming that we are pretty serious about one another.

I learn that Linda loves art, she is proud of Matthew's drawing and interest in it. She tells me about all of the pictures he has created. She asks Matthew to draw one of me, which I go along with. He informs her that he will get right on it. I notice that anything she asks of him he agrees to, even if he does dig his heels in from now and then.

Matty and I share a desert, again. I'm learning he does not like sweet things unlike myself. He has a few spoonfuls of our chocolate sundae and then declares himself done.

Steve grabs the bill and pays even though Matty and myself offer to help out. He insists that this is the first time he's taken Matthew and I out and that he wishes to pay for us. I can see that Matty has inherited a lot of qualities from his step dad.

Having hugged Matty in the car park Linda gives me a big hug as Steve and Matty chat.

He starts up the car and drives with his spare hand resting on my thigh.

"I'm also going to have to start drawing again" he smiles down at me a twinkle in his eyes. He assumes that I'm staying over night as he lets me back into his house. A place that is becoming more and more familiar. I smile at him in the kitchen as I sit on the table remembering the first time we made out here. We've come a long way in a very short time.

The manner of a man, and especially how he treats his mother is a big indication of how he will be with you I think idly whilst I play the guitar. I watch him making drinks for the both of us and consequently turn to face me on the table. He is decent I think to myself, he clearly tries his best for his mum and usually comes around to her ideas and suggestions.

His phone buzzes, we both sigh. He retrieves it from his Levi's. His smile vanishing from his face as he answers. A male voice speaks on the line. Not a voice I recognise, sultry and slightly southern. Just a little twang. A serious intent tone to the man's voice has my interest peaked. It's not Ross, he has a soft voice, this voice is commanding. And from the small scraps I hear, he's not on speaker, but Matthew is close to me. This is the voice of a man who knows Matthew closely, a friend or foe?

Matthew holds my eye contact whilst speaking on the phone. He hangs up and places his phone back watching me. They had been discussing the party mainly, planes and journeys from Dubai to Cali. A bit about the others, Matthew refused to mention me in the call. And I question why, if he knows this person closely, why would he not tell him that he is seeing a new girl. I push my thoughts aside and gaze into his green, now mysterious eyes.

Jay is going to cause me problems, I just hope I can keep her away from him. He's interested in her already, Jen has clearly been feeding him information. I've kept everything low profile, nobody has seen me. I've been with Taylor, not my friends and he knows that, I'm sure that intrigues him more than anything.

Laying here with her she's drifting in and out of sleep holding onto me. Her phone goes off again, seriously she's very popular. It's not Tom like I thought it might be but Ross this time. I will not look through her messages, I will not. I do not have to know. My brain nags at me that I need to know all of the details. I think about being able to see everything he has said to her. All of her messages, every word. It would reassure me, it would cure my paranoia and I would feel safe lying in bed with her. I shrug it off, it takes me a while. But I fervently will not be checking her phone.

Ross has never dated, he has also never had sex with a girl. Never kissed one when it wasn't part of a drinking game. Before now he's never chased a girl, he likes her and she is an exception. It's cruel that the one girl he falls for, I fall for her too. He has seen me treat girls badly and he thinks that's my game here too. I don't blame him I competed against him originally.

Plan Matthew I think to myself, come up with a reasonable way to keep her being yours. I gaze at her brunette hair and cream skin. How her hands are around my waist. Introducing her as my girl is the way forward especially so that I can cut off Ross. She will always have a soft spot for him. He's intelligent and smarter than me. He's drawn to her, and honestly he's probably the right choice. He never has hurt any girls.

This isn't something I've ever done before, with other girls I never got to know them. I never valued their company. I don't really deserve to have somebody like this feel so strongly for me.
