Fourteen years it has been since her birth, with flowers she returns a dog to earth.
It was the first time Hung Yu Fei had killed another person. The visual impact of the flowing blood and the smell was overwhelming. Naturally, she wasn’t used to it. She felt nauseous. She bent over and rubbed her chest as she retched.
Wun Fan looked at Hung Yu Fei’s hand over her chest. Her breasts weren’t moving. He had no idea why someone with a figure like hers insisted on binding her chest. Does she know what other women would give to have what she had?
The injured third brother saw his opportunity. He took advantage of Hung Yu Fei’s momentary distraction to get up to his feet. He forcefully channelled what remained of his soul energy to his legs and shouted, “Lethality: Agile Wolf’s Leap!”
He abandoned his second brother’s corpse and quickly fled the scene. He was a hundred meters away from Hung Yu Fei in a matter of a few seconds.
Wun Fan shouted when he saw this, “Now’s not the time to be vomiting! Go kill him! I’ll save the woman!”
Hung Yu Fei snapped back to her senses from Wun Fan’s words. She immediately understood Wun Fan’s intentions. Letting a tiger escape back to its lair was only making trouble for the future. She suppressed her nausea and quickly wiped away the saliva on her lips. She conjured her soul energy and immediately gave chase.
She bent down and picked up a handful of leaves as she ran. She threw them forward and shouted, “Lethality: Leaf Through a River!”
However, she didn’t have much soul energy left either. Some of it had to be reserved for combat, so when she leaped onto the leap and dashed forward, she didn’t make it very far. She landed some distance away from the third brother.
Wun Fan walked up to the second brother’s body. He took out a short survival knife from his ring and plunged it into the brother’s neck without any hesitation. The knife drew blood. He pulled it out and stabbed the body twice in the chest. After seeing no reaction, he looked closely at the stab wounds. The wounds were pale and didn’t cling onto the knife when he pulled it out. It was only then that he let down his guard.
It was impossible to know if your enemy had any unusual tricks up their sleeves, especially in this mystical world of martial arts. Wun Fan had read plenty of novels in his previous life. There were plenty of fictional techniques in them that allowed the user to fake their deaths. It wasn’t out of the question for such techniques to exist in this world.
Old Lei was very pleased with Wun Fan’s caution. Being careful and vigilant at all times was the only way to climb to the top.
Wun Fan grabbed the dead man’s wrist and felt for his pulse. He felt no heartbeat and no flow of soul energy. He could finally rest easy. However, something unexpected happened. A surge of death aura rushed out of the second brother’s body, seeping through Wun Fan’s fingers and into his meridians. Li’l Black roared inside his martial heart, sounding extremely excited like he was expecting something.
The death aura flowed along the meridians of its own accord once it entered Wun Fan’s body and arrived at the martial heart, where it merged with Li’l Black. Then, the merged death aura left the martial heart and spread out along the meridians. Its presence stimulated the flow of soul energy, driving it towards the Heart Meridian. The soul energy easily excavated the various pressure points of the Heart Meridian. Once Wun Fan filled these pressure points with enough soul energy, he would reach the intermediate Martial Mortal realm!
“What’s this?” said Wun Fan in astonishment. He couldn’t understand why that surge of death aura had benefitted him so much.
Old Lei wasn’t surprised at all. He explained calmly, “This is the power of your martial soul and the ability unique to it.”
“Old Lei, what you mean is that every exotic martial soul can refine death aura and turn it into power for its owner?” asked Wun Fan. He was even more confused after hearing Old Lei’s explanation.
“Every exotic martial soul has its own unique ability. Your Little Black allows you to take death aura and refine it into your own power,” said Old Lei nonchalantly. He was simply explaining things to Wun Fan, “Moreover, the stronger the person is, the more death aura they will generate upon their death.”
Wun Fan realized he seemed to have discovered an unbelievable secret when he heard this. If what Old Lei said was true, didn’t that mean that the more people he killed and the stronger they were, the more death aura he could absorb? Wouldn’t that mean that he could rapidly increase his power?
Wun Fan was rejoicing when Old Lei suddenly said in a solemn tone, “Kid, the heavens have their own plans. You reap what you sow. Those who do good will find good fortune; those who do evil will wallow in misfortune. A heavy debt of murder has to be paid in time. Remember this well.”
Wun Fan couldn’t help but fall silent for a moment when he heard this. He remembered a phrase from his previous life and muttered it to himself, “If you wish to know the effects of your actions of a previous life, look no further to the present. If you wish to know the causes of your actions of a future life, look no further to the present.”
“Past and present life? Cause and effect?” muttered Old Lei. He couldn’t help but ask, “Kid, what relation do you have to the Buddhistas?”
“The Buddhistas?” said Wun Fan. He felt his head hurt from the flood of information that Old Lei had just revealed with his question. He took a deep breath and said, “I’ll go and save the woman first. We can talk later!”
“Very well,” said Old Lei. He was unfazed. After all, from his perspective, a single pill was all that was needed to save the woman. That said, the pills he had were valuable and were meant for saving Wun Fan’s life.
A life for a life? Old Lei couldn’t help but grin. He wanted to see how Wun Fan would approach this, so he asked, “Do you want to use a pill?”
Wun Fan rejected decisively and said simply, “I only just met her. This is her chance encounter with death. I am not obligated to save her with something that could save me in the future.”
Old Lei laughed. This kid was very interesting.

Only Wun Fan and the woman were left. Her face was ashen-gray and there was hardly any life in her eyes. Her legs were bleeding from where they were hit by Hung Yu Fei’s technique. A few seconds later, Wun Fan walked forward and felt for her pulse. There was nothing and her soul energy was completely gone. Moreover, her chest was not moving and her breathing had stopped.
Wun Fan remembered what Old Lei told him about his soul energy containing death aura. He didn’t dare to probe her body with his soul energy, so he said, “Miss, sorry about this.”
He saw that the young woman wasn’t wearing many winter clothes. However, when he touched her chest, he realized that she was wearing a thin piece of armor inside. He pulled her clothes apart and saw that the sides of the armor were filled with cracks.
He reached around her body and undid the armor from behind, almost as if he were hugging her. Even his face was stained with her blood. He took off her armor and saw that there was still another piece of cloth under it. He got impatient and roughly tore it away. It wasn’t very elegant of him.
However, Wun Fan couldn’t be bothered. He immediately put his hands on her chest and pressed down, breaking her ribs in the process. He was doing CPR in hopes of restarting her heart. After pressing down a few times on her chest, he lifted her neck with his right hand to ensure that her airways were clear. He then grabbed her cheeks, opened her mouth and started mouth-to-mouth breathing.
His first kiss in this life had been given to a stranger.
He continued trying to save her when a howling sound zipped towards him from behind. Wun Fan’s senses were incredibly sharp. He instantly recognized where the sound was coming from and turned his head to the right, barely dodging the arrow. However, his left cheek hurt from the violent air currents caused by the arrow. He immediately turned around to look.
A teenager, about sixteen years old, holding a longbow, was standing about fifty meters away. He looked at him furiously and shouted, “You bastard! You rapist!”
He leaped forward, closing the distance until they were only twenty meters apart. He gritted his teeth with bloodshot eyes. It was clear that he was holding back his anger and trying to hold on to his rationality. He looked at the girl’s body and saw that she was no longer breathing. Her clothes were dishevelled and her lower body was stained with some sort of white liquid, evidence of his conjecture.
Wun Fan didn’t think he would be mistaken for a rapist when he was just trying to save her. He tried to explain himself, “It’s a misunderstanding. I’m trying to save her.”
“You aren’t even using your soul energy to save her. Instead, you take off her clothes, hug her and grab a chest! You think you can save someone by doing that?” said the teenager. He was furious and pointed at Wun Fan as he continued scolding him, “What’s the use of the soul energy in you if not to save a person?”
“Ah…” said Wun Fan. He wasn’t the culprit, but he didn’t know how to refute the teenager’s accusations. He was trying to think of an explanation, but the teenager gave him no time.
“Such a young boy and already a rapist. A novice Martial Mortal and you already have the guts to rape women. The ills of our nation are caused precisely by wicked martial artists like yourself. To get rid of people like you is to bring glory back to our nation!” cried the teenager before summoning his martial soul. He immediately drew his longbow all the way and shot another howling arrow at Wun Fan.
The speed and power of this arrow were even faster than before. It was only four seconds between him drawing the bow to the arrow reaching before Wun Fan’s eyes. Wun Fan didn’t even have time to dodge. It had almost hit him already.
“Lethality: Dragon’s Might, Fierce Blast!” he cried. The death aura in front of him turned into a protective shield, blasting aside the wooden arrow and keeping him safe. However, this wasn’t going to be an effective plan in the long run. After all, all the opponent had to do was circle him and shoot an arrow every once in a while and he would completely run out of soul energy soon.
More importantly, the opponent had not even used any soul energy yet. However, just then, the teenager leapt backward, creating distance between them. It seemed like he had the same thought as Wun Fan.
