The heavens would not stand for a mere ant provoking its might. Thunder crackled and roared everywhere while flashes of lightning pierced the clouds. The caged lightning beast finally broke free from the clouds when Wun Fook Sang declared war. The first bolt of lightning blasted the person standing on the ground. The lightning bolt was as thick as five arms put together. The thundercloud didn’t seem any smaller to Wun Fan after the lightning strike. This was likely just an appetizer.
“Ugh…” The lightning bolt seemed to have a mind of its own. It didn’t just strike Wun Fook Sang head-on. Instead, it curved slightly when it approached and lunged at Wun Fook Sang’s chest. The boy took a few steps back after being hit and grunted in pain. He endured the numbness coursing through his body and remained standing.
Vapor could be seen rising from Wun Fook Sang’s body after the first lightning bolt struck him. A lot of his skin had been burned red and purple. Fortunately, the first lightning strike only had a high voltage but a low current. It only sapped around ten percent of Wun Fook Sang’s strength.
He looked much better after resting for just three seconds.
Wun Fook Sang shouted furiously at the skies, provoking it, “Come again, bastard!”
The second bolt of lightning instantly cut across the skies, causing the air to boom with thunder. It once again hit Wun Fook Sang in the chest. The electricity immediately assaulted the various meridians, pressure points, and blood vessels the moment it entered his body. Much of his blood was instantaneously vaporized, causing blockages in his veins and interfering with the blood circulation of his body.
Surges of soul energy immediately rushed out of his body, continuously absorbing the heat in his body and providing strength to the various injured spots to heal. This minimized the damage from the lightning strikes. He was further aided by the pills, which improved his regeneration tremendously. Even so, Wun Fook Sang had suffered considerable damage. Wun Fan could see his face suddenly turn pale and his steps turned unstable. He barely managed to straighten his body and prevent himself from falling to his knees.
The third elder was pained to see Wun Fook Sang injured, but he could only stand and watch quietly on the sidelines. It was a horrible feeling. Just then, the great elder’s voice rang out by his ear, “There should only be one more lightning tribulation.”
Wun Ching Yeung, the third elder, Wun Fan, and Wun Siu Lan had put all their attention on Wun Fook Sang. Upon hearing what the great elder said, they lifted their heads to look. The thundercloud was still roiling and rumbling, but it was far less dense than before. It was also nearly forty percent smaller than its original size.
Wun Fook Sang ignored the heavy feeling in his chest and raised his head to glare at the clouds. However, he had no more strength to shout any longer. He could only raise a middle finger at the skies to express his disdain.
“Roar!” The lightning beast in the skies howled once more. The roar instantly turned all of the thunder’s power into a single bolt of lightning lashing at Wun Fook Sang. It was determined to reduce him to ashes.
The lightning beast sliced the dark skies in half as it struck Wun Fook Sang. The speed of the lightning was impossible to capture for an ordinary disciple. Even Wun Fan, with his sharp senses, only barely sensed the instant the lightning entered Wun Fook Sang’s body.
Wun Fook Sang was hit by the powerful lightning strike and reacted as if he had been hit with a giant hammer. His robes were completely scorched, revealing his body beneath. His limbs twitched uncontrollably and branching river-like burns appeared all over his body.
Wun Fook Sang’s eyes were red with blood, his breathing was erratic and his chest rose and fall at an irregular rhythm. Wun Siu Lan couldn’t bear to look at him.
“Old Lei, are tribulations always so scary?” Wun Fan couldn’t help but feel at a loss. He had never thought about how difficult it would be to survive heavenly tribulations. How powerful could the tribulations be if Martial Mortals are constantly dealing with them?
However, when Wun Fan looked at Wun Fook Sang’s condition, he couldn’t help but worry if he himself would be able to endure the tribulations. He had a feeling that the tribulations he would face would be far more severe and far more powerful than Wun Fook Sang’s tribulations.
This was out of confidence in his own talent, as well as a feeling he got from his sixth sense.
“Kid, those who walk the martial path go against the heavens itself. It is fraught with danger and death. The only way to make progress is to accept your mortality,” Old Lei’s voice rang solemnly in his mind, “Don’t forget what you said. Murder is your martial path. You must not only murder others but yourself as well. You will grow stronger with every time you survive a threat on your life.”
Wun Fan’s wavering heart settled down upon hearing this. He remembered what he told Old Lei on that night and remembered that he had already died once. He had nothing more to lose. If that was the case, why not go all in and put it all on the line? His eyes suddenly gleamed with strength and resolution. His entire demeanor changed to be more at ease. He smiled as he watched the lightning in the skies. There were no more worries in his mind.
The great elder saw this change in his person and smiled.
Back in the arena, the lonesome figure was still fighting as he kneeled on the ground. He was frothing from the mouth, but his eyes were clear and sharp. The only indication of him being alive was the occasional twitching of his body. None of the senior members of the clan dared to interrupt the process of the tribulation. They could only watch from aside.
After thirty or forty seconds, all movement from Wun Fook Sang slowly ceased. The atmosphere in the sparring grounds grew heavy and many people were starting to worry that Wun Fook Sang had drawn his last breath.
Five seconds later, Wun Fook Sang’s finger twitched. Everyone held their breaths. He propped himself up on his shaking elbow and slowly sat up. His eyes were clear and focused. Only his breathing was still a little rough.
He had succeeded!
Everyone on the sparring grounds, including Wun Siu Lan and Wun Fan, started cheering and clapping for Wun Fook Sang. However, Wun Ching Yeung, the great elder, and the third elder didn’t cheer. Instead, they watched the dark clouds in the sky cautiously as they continued to circle above. A different kind of energy was gathering within the clouds.
The great elder stated simply, “The tribulations are not over.”
The disciples with better hearing heard what he said and stopped cheering. They followed his gaze and looked at the clouds. They seemed to be mocking the crowd for celebrating prematurely as it continued to roil without stopping.
“The aura tribulation is coming,” At that moment, Wun Ching Yeung knew that the boy definitely had an excellent martial soul and immediately shouted out his orders, “Everyone, take thirty steps back, widen the perimeter!”
“Yes, sir.”
The Enforcer’s Hall disciples replied in unison and pushed the perimeter thirty steps back.
“Fan, Siu Lan, step back a little and stand behind the great elder,” Wun Ching Yeung didn’t forget to remind the two of them. He wouldn’t know what to do if the two of them were hurt.
Wun Fook Sang stood up with much difficulty. Like a blade of grass in a storm, he was swaying left and right with unsteady steps. He stared at the black clouds in the skies. Determination brimmed in his eyes. He had only one thought in his mind, “I want to awaken my martial soul!”
The dark clouds seemed to be answering Wun Fook Sang’s desire. An intimidating aura descended from the skies. The aura was without shape, color, smell, or sound, but every martial artist present felt its might. However, if anyone were to observe closely, they would notice that space itself had been distorted slightly by the influence of this aura.
The aura felt stern but righteous and just to Wun Fan. It was clearly a noble and gentlemanly aura. The aura pressed against Wun Fook Sang’s body and forced him to his knees once more. He supported himself with all four limbs and stopped himself from being pressed into the ground. Wun Fook Sang could hardly breathe from the aura, but he stubbornly refused to let out a single grunt of pain. He simply endured the force of the aura.
Just when everyone thought this was the end of the aura tribulation, hidden sword intent burst forth from the noble aura. All the grass around Wun Fook Sang was cut in half and scattered to the wind. Numerous small cuts appeared on his body and what remained of his clothes were shredded to pieces. Blood seeped from his wounds and covered his entire person. The sword intent almost reached Wun Fan and Wun Siu Lan. Fortunately, the great elder expected this to happen. He waved his hand and spread his soul energy, controlling the flow of power and blocking the waves of sword intent.
“Hang in there, it’s almost over,” the third elder gripped his fists tightly and repeated those six words over and over.
Wun Fook Sang gritted his teeth and endured the pain all over his body. He used all the strength he had in his body and shouted loudly, “Martial soul, descend!”
The entirety of the noble aura, including the sword intent, instantly turned into a raging gale. It dragged at the air in the air as it was absorbed into Wun Fook Sang’s body. All the energy in the air vanished without a trace. Only he was left standing on the ground with gleaming eyes and renewed spirits. Soul energy burst from his body as he cheered excitedly, “I’ve done it!”
The crowd immediately burst into cheers and applause. Wun Fook Sang finally succumbed to exhaustion from his injuries. After shouting out his success, he closed his eyes and collapsed amidst everyone’s blessings. The third elder expected this to happen and immediately appeared behind his back to support him.
“Someone, bring a stretcher,” the third elder commanded. He looked at Wun Fook Sang with nothing but tenderness in his eyes. God, was this really the fair, just, impartial, and unfeeling third elder?
“Yes, sir,” the servants hurried to prepare a stretcher, while the sharper ones were already hurrying off to call for the doctors already waiting in the mansion.
Seeing as the tribulations were over, Wun Fan and Wun Siu Lan returned to their rooms. The two of them ate a simple dinner and Wun Siu Lan returned the herbs, the wooden box, and the armor to Wun Fan. However, before she left, she glanced at the herbs and the box. She then looked at Wun Fan and hesitated for a moment, but said nothing in the end.
As always, if a man wanted to tell you something, he would make you listen even if you didn’t want to.
Wun Siu Lan understood this clearly.315Please respect copyright.PENANAh5Dyn9RjHz
