Old Lei could sense the immense hatred and resentment in Wun Fan. He was momentarily reminded of himself in his youth and said in consolation, “Kid, from the moment you followed me, you were my disciple. I will not let you end up weak and ordinary.”
“I’ll leave my life and everything I have in your hands then, Old Lei,” Wun Fan teased in reply. This was the first time he had heard Old Lei talk to him so gently.
Wun Fan didn’t know what else to say, but Old Lei’s firm and unyielding promise made Wun Fan feel a lot more at ease. In just a moment’s time, the dark green silhouette approached the entrance to the mountain. The power in Wun Fan’s steps didn’t decrease but increased as he accelerated forward. He jumped onto a tree and started leaping from one branch to another. Strangely enough, the green flames surrounding him did not ignite even a single leaf when they came into contact.
The small lake of the mountain appeared before his eyes just two seconds later.
Wun Fan was stunned by the speed at which he was traveling. It had only been less than thirty seconds since he left his room and he had already traversed a distance that would have usually taken him ten minutes.
‘Wun Fan’ landed on the ground. A suction force came from his thumb, absorbing all of the dark green flames. All of a sudden, Wun Fan could feel the tremendous difference in power. It was a weird feeling and he had a reluctant expression on his face. He couldn’t help but think to himself, If only this was my own power.
“Kid, the most dependable power is that which belongs to you. Stop overthinking the issue.”
Wun Fan walked to the edge of the lake and flung his shoes off his feet with a few kicks. He dropped his butt onto the grass and couldn’t help but start soaking his feet in the water. Old Lei’s mental energy emerged from his thumb and hovered in the air. His dark green body looked even more ethereal against the backdrop of the forest. If someone else walked by, they would definitely mistake him for a ghost.
Well, he was indeed a ghost.
OId Lei didn’t know about all these stupid thoughts that Wun Fan was having and started to talk seriously, “Kid, your injuries this time aren’t exactly serious, but they aren’t trivial either. They aren’t trivial because someone of your cultivation level rarely experiences the problem of torn meridians. On the other hand, they aren’t serious because injuries like these can be healed with just a Grade Six pill.”
Disciple, Mortal, Vassal, Scholar, Master, Innate, Colonel, General, Spirit and Baron. Grade Six pills correspond to the Innate Martial Master realm, and would be incredibly beneficial even for martial artists of that level. Consequently, they would cost quite a lot of money.
“But, Old Lei, the doctor said…” Wun Fan wanted to get a few words in, but Old Lei immediately interrupted him in an overbearing fashion.
“Are you going to listen to me or that doctor?” Old Lei stared at Wun Fan calmly, making him feel a little awkward about what he said. However, Old Lei didn’t blame Wun Fan. After all, he didn’t know much about him.
“Kid, do you know what doctors are?”
“Mm…they treat people for their illnesses?”
“You idiot. Doctors are a lowly profession, only capable of the unrefined concoction of pills of Grade One through Three…no, I should say only unrefined medicine of Grade One through Three.” Old Lei suddenly seemed to be much more spirited as he continued to explain, “Meanwhile, alchemists are the profession which demands the respect of people wherever you go in this world. Powerful martial artists clamber to be friends with alchemists of exceptional skill. Countless powerful clans will wish to be your ally. There are even tremendously powerful individuals who would be willing to submit themselves as your servant, all for a single pill.”
“The most expensive debt of all is the debt of a favor, and the favor of an alchemist concocting a pill for you is an impossible debt to return for the average person.”
Old Lei continued talking without pause. His expression and movements were incredibly animated, going into incredible detail as if he wasn’t talking about someone else, but himself. This made Wun Fan even more curious about Old Lei’s identity, but he did not pursue the question. He believed Old Lei would tell him when the time came.
“Alchemists are able to truly fuse different herbs to activate their medicinal effect, resulting in unexpected benefits. Clearing miasma, detoxing poison, calming the mind, mending the soul, regrowing lost limbs—the miraculous power of pills is beyond your imagination. Some pills can actively boost your cultivation level, some can bring you back from the brink of death and some are so ridiculous, that they could allow you to ascend to tremendous heights of power in a single instant. When a supreme pill is born to this world, it will even trigger a supreme tribulation to prevent its existence in this world.”
Wun Fan suddenly remembered the stories of gods and immortals from his previous life when he heard this. He couldn’t help but ask, “Then is the Nine-Turned Resurrection Pill a real thing?”
“Hmm?!” Old Lei was perplexed. He stared at Wun Fan and asked, “Kid, where did you hear this name?”
The Nine-Turned Resurrection Pill, capable of defying fate and extending lifespans, an incredibly powerful mythical pill. Even Old Lei had only heard of the pill, but had never seen it with his own eyes. He had not expected the heir of a major clan in a small town to have heard of it.
Wun Fan could not tell Old Lei that it was something he knew from his previous life. Wun Fan would bring the secret of his reincarnation to his grave. He knew that such a secret, if revealed, could bring about immense trouble.
“I didn’t hear about it from anywhere, I saw it in an ancient tome,” Heh, at any rate, he was good at lying.
“Mm, seems like your clan has quite the history as well.”
“So…” Wun Fan suddenly looked very bashful and stared at Old Lei longingly. Naturally, Old Lei knew what Wun Fan wanted and stopped wasting words. The kid would probably stop listening entirely if he kept babbling on.
“Kid, all you have to do is find certain herbs for me and I can concoct a Grade Six pill for you, the Pill of Meridian Fortification,” Old Lei gave Wun Fan no time to think after he said this. A small flame appeared on his index finger, which he threw straight at Wun Fan’s head.
Grade Six Pill—Prescription for the Pill of Meridian Fortification
Half-century black angelica, aconite root, southyellows, sap from a thirty-year-old liquidambar, redpitch fruits, undeath worms, giant purplebee honey, sweetscent fruits, red skullcaps, blue echeveria, gallbladder of a blue-spotted snake, ten-year-old treeheart.
“So many ingredients?” Wun Fan was speechless for a moment. He had heard of some of these herbs and knew that they were not cheap at all. Some of them he had never even heard of before. Where was he supposed to go and find all these things? However, just a second later, Wun Fan became very excited. Now that Old Lei did indeed have a way to heal his wounds, he no longer had to be worried.
“You know how to concoct pills?!” Wun Fan was even more surprised to learn this. What else had Old Lei not told him yet?
“What would be the point of telling you the prescription if I couldn’t?” Old Lei rolled his eyes at Wun Fan before continuing, “This pill should have been considered a Grade Four pill, but this particular prescription is a little unusual. It requires more herbs and is as challenging to concoct as a Grade Six pill. It also has the tremendous effect of being able to fortify one’s meridians, which is where it gets its name from. However, the aether it contains is not sufficient for it to be considered a Grade Six p…you don’t have to know too much about the technicalities of pill grading.”
“Some of these herbs might be hard to find in a small town. If you can’t find them, you can just bring me the seeds.”
Wun Fan didn’t know much about these matters. He was truly a complete amateur when it came to pills. He had only heard a few basic terms in passing. As such, he kept his mouth shut and planned to go purchase all the necessary ingredients in secret tomorrow. This was absolutely urgent for the sake of being able to continue training.
The worst he had to do was spend some money. He had plenty of that…
Well, if it came down to it, he could just borrow some from his sister.
Shamelessness truly made you invincible.
“Also, kid, on a different note, I intend to take you outside for some training in the real world. You are still too weak right now. You can’t use the true power of the Spiritstartler Ring yet. I can’t let you put such a powerful artifact to waste. I will bring you on a journey to quickly increase your power. What do you think?” Old Lei looked at Wun Fan with mischief in his eyes. He stroked his white beard as if he was planning how to give Wun Fan the torture of his life, making him seem like a demon in Wun Fan’s eyes. Wun Fan did want to improve himself as quickly as possible, but he might die if he just went along with Old Lei’s plan like this…
“Of course, you should get yourself to Martial Mortal realm first, or you will…heh.”
“But they might not let me leave the house to go on my own adventures,” Wun Fan was still not convinced. He knew what his father and the great elder was like. He had only just recovered from his strange disease. They wouldn’t let him leave. Moreover, he would be traveling on his own. His elders would be concerned for him, even if he was a Martial Mortal.
It just didn’t seem plausible, no matter how he thought about it.
“Heheh, I have a plan.”
Old Lei whispered it to Wun Fan and Wun Fan immediately gave him a look of disdain. What a terrible idea. He would have thought of the same thing immediately if he had factored Old Lei into the plan. And to think that he thought that this was some kind of genius machination!336Please respect copyright.PENANAuvrqJi5yQ4
They said nothing else for the rest of the night. Wun Fan continued to breathe in aether on the ground, while Old Lei stood guard over him. After all, being disrupted while you were training could easily cause tremendous damage to the body.
When dawn finally arrived and purple light shone on the horizon, Wun Fan opened his eyes without needing Old Lei to remind him. He climbed up a tree like an agile monkey. With yesterday’s experience, it was much easier to climb up a tree this time. However, all the excessive movement pulled on his injuries and the pain made Wun Fan grit his teeth.
Yet another beam of purple energy penetrated his skin. Wun Fan guided this purple energy toward the Spiritstartler Ring. However, absorbing purple energy wasn’t as easy as aether and required more time. However, the aether that purple energy contained was far more plentiful.
“Kid, I won’t give you the aether feedback for today. We can wait until your body has recovered, just so we won’t be adding on to your injuries,” Old Lei’s professional opinion was the best opinion, of course. Wun Fan had no objections and simply abided by his advice.
The green flames appeared again and let Wun Fan enjoy yet another free trial of being a powerful martial artist. He was back in his room in the blink of an eye. Wun Fan changed his clothes and walked out to call for a servant to bring water for him to wash up.
Today, he planned to buy all the herbs he needed to make that pill!336Please respect copyright.PENANA7gsmstTGhR
