“Ping, I’ve noticed your improvement lately. Well done,” said Wun Ching Yeung. He was sitting in the same corner of the training grounds as Wun Ping. The boy no longer had the same air of arrogance as before. He talked, dressed and behaved differently from before.
Wun Ching Yeung didn’t know what inspired the change, but he was happy to see it. He even changed the way he addressed him.
A guard sprinted across the training grounds and stopped in front of them. He reported, “Clan leader, the third young master is back. Two girls seem to have started a fight over him. What should we…?”
“Hahaha! It’s good to be young! It’s no matter!” said Wun Ching Yeung with a chuckle. He waved his hand and dismissed the guard. He never expected his son to come back with two girls after a single trip away from home. Wun Fan was just like him in his younger days.
Wun Ping heard the guard’s words and couldn’t help but compare himself to Wun Fan. All the women around him were just after his money. He flashed a bitter smile and said, “Clan leader, I suppose I’m just a little bitter.”
Back then, he was full of himself. He always had followers around him praising him constantly. He believed their words and tricked himself into thinking he was a genius until reality beat him down.
Even when reality had given him a gut shot, he refused to look at the truth of the matter. Instead, he hyper-fixated on Wun Fan and Siu Lan. At one point, he even tried to get Wun Fan killed. He even lusted after Siu Lan. He was worse than an animal.
Wun Ping knew he was influenced by his father very much, which was what made him hate Wun Fan and Siu Lan as much as he did. Now, upon reflection, Wun Ping saw that his father was just envious of the clan leader and the great elder. His father was just like him, refusing to face their own weakness. Instead, they would rather hope that everyone better than them disappeared.
Then no one would be better than them.
However, the truth is that Wun Fan and Siu Lan were superior to him in every way imaginable, whether it was wits or martial prowess. Sometimes, when you zoom out and take a good look at your own thoughts and actions, you will find it all so stupid.
“Take a look, Wun Ping,” said Wun Ching Yeung in response. Naturally, he knew what Wun Ping was frustrated about. He pointed at the skies and said, “Can you chase the clouds in the sky away?”
“Of course not,” said Wun Ping, not quite understanding what Wun Ching Yeung was trying to say. He shook his head in confusion, but he listened patiently for Wun Ching Yeung to talk.
“Then can you make them stay?”
“No,” said Wun Ping, looking even more confused now.
“Stare at the clouds and watch for when it will leave your sight,” said Wun Ching Yeung with a chuckle. His voice was always gentle.
“Mm,” said Wun Ping as he stared at the clouds. They drifted slowly. One of the clouds looked like a white sword in the air, which reminded him of the hereditary martial heart of the Wun Clan. The clouds were very slow. It seemed like it would take a long time before they left his sight.
“It's slow, isn’t it?” said Wun Ching Yeung with a smile. He saw Wun Siu Lan walk past them toward the gates. She seemed to be in a good mood. He pointed at her and said, “Now look at Siu Lan.”
Wun Ping followed Wun Ching Yeung’s finger and saw Wun Siu Lan walked out of the gates in her blue dress. He said, “Right, and…?”
“Now take a look at the clouds in the sky again. Are they gone?”
Wun Ping looked up again, trying to look for the sword-shaped cloud in the sky, only to find that it had vanished without a trace. He seemed to understand something. He said, “Mm, I think I understand now, clan leader.”
“The most dangerous thing of all for a martial artist is to be impatient. As long as the obsession in our heart remains, it will be impossible to improve. That is because a martial artist should forget themselves. It is only when we cast aside everything that we can improve,” said Wun Ching Yeung. Just then, he felt a familiar soul energy fluctuation from the gates. It was definitely Wun Siu Lan.
“What is that girl doing? Wasn’t she in a good mood?” muttered Wun Ching Yeung with a frown. He wasn’t too worried though. He remembered what the guard said. Two girls were fighting over Wun Fan and now Siu Lan was using her soul energy? It was probably…
Women.
“So I should turn my focus back on my own training?” muttered Wun Ping to himself. He seemed a little lost still. However, Wun Ching Yeung did not give him the answer. This boy was smart. After all, he was a lineage disciple of the Wun Clan. How stupid could he be?
“Mm?” said Wun Ching Yeung. He suddenly felt an unusual soul energy fluctuation. It was subtle, but it made him uneasy. He said to Wun Ping, “Ping, I’ll go to the gates and see what’s the commotion.”
“Yes, clan leader,” said Wun Ping as he stood up respectfully and watched Wun Ching Yeung leave. His behavior made Wun Ching Yeung confident in his change. Wun Ching Yeung thought to himself, This kid has finally settled down.
However, he did not slow down at all. He arrived at the gates in a matter of seconds and heard a chime-like voice say, “Lethality: Black Warrior’s Tomb Guardian Flame!”
“What!” cried Wun Ching Yeung. He drew his black longsword out of instinct and rushed out of the gates instantly. He saw a grass containing a deep reserve of soul energy attacking a girl wreathed in green flames.
He immediately knew that Wun Siu Lan was being attacked!
“Who dares to attack my daughter!” shouted Wun Ching Yeung as he conjured his soul energy, summoned his martial soul and unleashed a deadly technique with his sword. He shouted, “Lethality: Radiant Skypiercing Sword.”
The powerful sword shot forward, piercing the sky with its blinding radiance. The black sword easily cut the grass in half and forced it to disintegrate under the force of Wun Ching Yeung’s soul energy.
Attacking with a blade of grass? Is it the Hung Clan? But the Hung Clan and Wun Clan of the Green Sea Town had always been on good terms. Why would they get into a fight for no reason? thought Wun Ching Yeung.
It didn’t matter to him. Someone had attacked his daughter!
Wun Ching Yeung was still furious, but he behaved as a clan leader should. He maintained a cool mind and a polite tone, but he didn’t forget to stress his identity when he said, “For instructing my daughter, I, Wun Ching Yeung, leader of the Green Sea Town’s Wun Clan, thank you.”
“Daddy!” said Siu Lan when she saw her father come to her rescue. She knew she was no match for this opponent, so she quickly dispelled her soul energy and stood behind her father. She didn’t want to get in his way. She whispered to Wun Ching Yeung, “Be careful, this person is probably stronger than the great elder!”
Wun Siu Lan had felt the great elder’s aura. He was a peak Martial Colonel, but this woman’s aura was several times more oppressive than his. It was clear that she was a Martial General at the very least and perhaps even stronger than that!
“Mm,” said Wun Ching Yeung. He remained on guard with his black sowrd in hand. He pointed the sword at the ground and silently started channeling soul energy to his arm. He was an advanced Martial Colonel and could sense the strength of the woman’s aura more clearly than Siu Lan.
This woman who appeared to be from the Hung Clan was stronger even when compared to Martial Generals. She might be a Martial Spirit.
“Father,” said Wun Fan as he approached Wun Ching Yeung, “She’s a peak Martial Spirit!”
“Peak Martial Spirit?!” said Wun Ching Yeung. He narrowed his eyes, but he believed Wun Fan’s words. After all, he knew Old Lei was hiding inside Wun Fan. He was probably the one who told him that information.
Since when was a rural place like Green Sea Town so attractive to such powerful individuals?
After all, different areas within the Empire had different aether density. Typically, powerful individuals above a certain level would avoid remote areas like this. That is because the low aether density meant that the speed at which they accumulated soul energy would be greatly reduced.
That is why the most powerful people in towns like these tend to be Martial Generals at best. Once you had ascended past the realm of Martial General, the aether of a small town like this would not be enough to let you continue growing in power.
However, a peak Martial Spirit wasn’t enough to make him flee.
He had met plenty of Martial Spirits in his time. The worst scenario was just death. He didn’t mind it. He had lived for quite a while already anyway.
“Haha, Clan Leader Wun, sorry about that,” said Hung Yuk Huen as she immediately dispelled her soul energy. She put a pleasant expression and said sweetly, “That masked girl over there was rude to my young lady, which was why I acted to stop her.”
“May I know your name?” said Wun Ching Yeung. Now that she had retracted her soul energy, it was inappropriate to continue pointing a sword at her. He returned his sword to his storage ring and smiled as he said, “You must be from the Hung Clan.”
“You have a good eye, Clan Leader Wun. This humble one is Hung Yuk Huen. I am a personal maidservant of the Hung Clan’s origin house,” said Hung Yuk Huen. Her voice was as smooth as water and as pleasant as song. Every one of her words seemed to entice you to drop your guard.
“That explains why you are a Martial Spirit. Your bear an important position on your shoulders. I am sorry for my disrespect,” said Wun Ching Yeung calmly and politely.
Hung Yuk Huen, on the other hand, was a little shocked. She was concealing her aura and yet he knew she was a Martial Spirit. It seemed like this man was no ordinary person either.
Of course, she had no idea that Wun Ching Yeung wasn’t the extraordinary one here.
“Oh, please don’t call me Miss Hung, Clan Leader Wun. That’s a little too formal. If we go by seniority, I am your junior. Why don’t you just call me Yuk Huen,” said the woman with a smile. It seemed like she was very proficient at small talk and socializing.
“It’s best to be polite. I think I will stick to Miss Hung,” said Wun Ching Yeung. He was not stupid enough to think that they were all that close. However, he was quite bothered by Hung Yuk Huen’s presence, so he asked, “Miss Hung, I’m sure you are a straightforward person and I prefer to be direct as well, so I will ask what’s on my mind. I know that you are not here by coincidence, so may I ask how I can help you?”
Hung Yuk Huen glanced at Hung Yu Fei then turned to look at Wun Fan. Her mind was spinning rapidly as she tried to think of the next step.
Her expression suddenly changed from soft to determined. She took on a serious tone as she said, “Well, about this…now that you have mentioned it, I have something I wish to ask of the Wun Clan. Perhaps Clan Leader Wun can help us arrange it.”
“Go ahead, what is it?” said Wun Ching Yeung. He turned his palms up and motioned for Hung Yuk Huen to continue.
“Yuk Huen would like to trouble Clan Leader Wun to arrange a marriage between my young lady and the young master of the Wun Clan,” said Hung Yuk Huen as she pointed right at Wun Fan.80Please respect copyright.PENANA03dyKsEfhC
