“It’s not over yet! Lethality: Blinding Light of Relentless Pursuit!” shouted the teenager. He couldn’t bear to see Wun Fan’s smug expression. He drew his bow and green light gathered on the bowstring. It was the homing arrow from before!
“It’s much easier to dodge a move I’ve seen before,” chuckled Wun Fan as he jumped. He targeted a tree branch and reached out with his hand as he said, “Dragon’s Draw, Forceful Attraction.”
Wun Fan moved through the trees like a monkey. His martial technique was an extension of his arms, pulling him left and right at incredible speeds. He easily shortened the distance between him and the teenager by another thirty meters!
The green light pursued after him relentlessly, slicing up all branches and leaves along the way. It finally dissipated into thin air after exhausting all its energy. The teenager’s expression changed. He quickly leapt backward. However, Wun Fan was like a monkey with wings. He drew closer by another dozen meters. He was so close now that the teenager could even see the wounds on his back.
The teenager suddenly felt a sense of danger. He only had three wooden arrows left in the quiver on his back and not much soul energy left inside him. Retreat was the best option! He channelled more soul energy to his feet and ran faster than before.
However, he was still slower than Wun Fan. Wun Fan was only a few meters away from him now. Upon seeing this, the teenager decisively pulled out the last three arrows from his quiver and fired them into the ground before him, shouting, “Lethality: Song of the Magical Beasts!”
He reserved the last ten percent of his soul energy and imbued everything else into the arrows. The three arrows exploded the instant they hit the ground, sending a massive curtain of wind and dust into the air and obscuring everyone’s vision. It was chaos. The teenager took advantage of this, slipping into the cloud of dust to escape.
Wun Fan’s vision might have been obscured, but he had a powerful advantage compared to the teenager!
“Old Lei!” shouted Wun Fan. There was nowhere to hide with his super powerful radar!
“Southeast,” said Old Lei instantly. It seemed like the teenager was trying to use reverse psychology. The most dangerous place is sometimes the safest place to go, after all. He headed towards the young woman, not just hoping to evade Wun Fan. He was also trying his best, no matter how unlikely, to save the woman.
Wun Fan immediately ran after him after knowing his position. He passed through the cloud of dust and locked on to a silhouette. He once again used his martial technique to weave through the woods, quickly catching up to the teenager.
Wun Fan saw that the teenager had no more arrows in his quiver. He didn’t seem to have a storage ring on his fingers either. He should be out of tricks already. Of course, caution was the best way to proceed.
Wun Fan was still receiving a constant and endless stream of aether from the Spiritstartler Ring. Any loss of soul energy was quickly recovered as he swiftly leapt from branch to branch. Moreover, as he continued to use this technique, he became more familiar with it, and became faster. He easily caught up to the teenager. On the other hand, the teenager had been using powerful attacks one after another. The attacks had been ineffective, but they had drained him of most of his soul energy. He couldn’t channel enough soul energy to his feet and was getting slower because of that.
With these factors combined, it was only natural that Wun Fan could catch up to him!
Wun Fan saw that the teenager was only ten meters away from him now. He instantly turned his hand into a scaled dragon claw and attacked the back of the teenager’s head. To his surprise, the teenager turned around with a big smile on his face. The teenager shouted, “Die!”
“Lethality: Bow Combat, Whirlwind.”
He channelled the last of his soul energy into the bow and swung from the hip. His entire body spun like the wind as he attacked Wun Fan with the force of a whirlwind. The attack had overwhelming momentum and the bow turned into an unstoppable blade; like a fall breeze sweeping through leaves.
“As a Martial Mortal, you should be proud that you forced me to exhaust all my soul energy,” said the teenager, sighing as he did so, “Such exceptional talent and you turn to a path of evil and villainy. Such a shame! Such a shame!”
He felt his bow hit something hard. He was relieved and didn’t press his attack any further. However, when all his soul energy dissipated and the whirlwind vanished, he saw Wun Fan standing on a tree about two meters away. Wun Fan looked down on the teenager with a mocking expression.
The teenager was stunned. What exactly did he hit earlier then?
Wun Fan looked impressed. He clapped and said, “You are truly an experienced opponent. Unfortunately for you, my old man taught me that all enemies that attack from a range will have a secret card up their sleeve to deal with anyone who gets close.”
“After all, you will always be the one who best understands your own weaknesses!” said Wun Fan as he jumped down from the tree. He finally had the leisure to take a good look at the person who had been sniping at him. The teenager was quite a bit taller than himself, standing at nearly 170 centimeters tall. He looked around sixteen years old and gave off the impression of someone with a strong sense of justice. His eyes burned with passion, and his eyebrows were stern and sharp like knives. He had a straight nose and a square face. He had a mole on the corner of one eye, giving him the air of a commanding general.
This teenager would almost certainly go on to accomplish tremendous feats one day. However, it seemed like he had his own reasons for appearing in Green Sea Forest as well.
“Luckily, I picked up a fallen branch along the way to trick you. Otherwise, I might have actually been hit by that whirlwind attack of yours,” said Wun Fan as he pointed at the shattered pieces of wood on the ground. The teenager gritted his teeth in response, clearly frustrated.
“Hey, kid,” said Wun Fan in an unamused while staring at the teenager, “I really was trying to save that woman. She was raped by members of the Green Wolf Gang. If you don’t believe me, you can come and take a closer look.”
Wun Fan had wanted to kill the teenager initially. The teenager had a strong sense of justice, but he was a little slow and bad at judging circumstances. Moreover, he attacked without talking things through and created a whole lot of trouble for everyone. However, Wun Fan stopped himself from going through with it. He remembered what Old Lei told him in his mind— there are always consequences that come with murder!
“I’m in a good mood and I don’t want to kill anyone,” said Wun Fan. He gritted his teeth as his wounds started acting up again. He said to the teenager, “Don’t get in my way of saving people!”
“Lethality: Dragon’s Draw, Forceful Attraction,” said Wun Fan. He then bounced into the distance as if he had been shot from a slingshot. He weaved through the trees like a monkey. Only the teenager was left on the spot. He muttered quietly to himself, “Did I really blame the wrong person?”
He then followed after Wun Fan in the direction he ran off.
Wun Fan returned to where the young woman was lying on the ground. Her chest didn’t seem to be moving at all. The twenty minutes wasted by the teenager had caused Wun Fan to miss the best time to save the woman. He could only hope that the young woman was lucky enough to survive now!
He once again put his hands on her chest and started pressing. He then gave her mouth-to-mouth. After a lot of hard work, the young woman slowly recovered consciousness. If this had been back on Earth, the twenty minutes of oxygen deprivation would have severely affected the woman. It wouldn’t be a surprise if her brain had been damaged.
Was this the effect of soul energy?
The young woman was in surprisingly good condition. There was still some bleeding from the wounds on her thigh, but Wun Fan quickly took care of that with a simple bandage.
The young woman was conscious now, but there was no life in her eyes. Her face was pale as ash.
There was no point in resuscitating the body if the spirit remained broken.
The teenager with the bow arrived and saw that the young woman was breathing once again. He was completely shocked. The hostility in his eyes faded completely, replaced with an apologetic look instead. Wun Fan said nothing when he saw the teenager either. The truth was louder than a thousand words and all the explaining he needed to do.
The woman looked at Wun Fan. She turned her head stiffly and looked at the corpse of second brother on the ground. She smiled at the child who had just saved her and said, “Thank you, my savior.”
The teenager rubbed his nose when he heard this. It seemed like he had been a little too reckless earlier. He was lucky that the young boy didn’t kill him. It seemed like he still had a tendency to overreact when it came to rapists.
Was it because of what happened to him?
“Mm, don’t talk too much for now,” said Wun Fan to the young woman. If she talked too much, she might just end up messing up her breathing again. He put his fingers over the woman’s pulse. It was still weak, so he turned around and shouted at the teenager with the bow, “Hey you, come over here.”
The teenager would usually give a kid a good scolding if they called him ‘hey’, especially if they were six years younger than him. However, he was the one at fault, so he looked past it. It was more important to save the woman first.
“Yes…?” said the teenager as he approached. He looked at the woman’s injuries with a solemn expression.
“My soul energy is abnormal. I can’t channel it into other people’s bodies. Use your soul energy to examine her body!” explained Wun Fan. His explanation dispelled what remained of the teenager’s doubts and made him feel a lot more guilty than before.
“Alright!” said the teenager. He grabbed the woman’s wrist and channelled soul energy into her body, letting it circulate throughout. He could feel some damage to her organs. Her ribs seemed very frail as well, like they would shatter with a simple touch.
The most severe injuries were on her lower body. They were cuts on the inside of her private parts. How cruel were those two bandits exactly to do something like to such a young woman?!
The teenager’s anger grew even more at the thought of this. He had always heard of the vile acts of the Green Wolf Gang, but he never expected them to be such irredeemable monsters!
