The green leaves were simply fluttering in the air when they became infused with soul energy. They instantly cut across the air, leaving trails in the air as they shot in the direction the girl pointed at. The girl’s martial technique looked familiar to Wun Fan somehow. Where had he seen something like that before?
He tried his best to search through his memories but came up with no answer.
“Hmm?” said Old Lei curiously, “I see. It seems like I’ve missed the mark this time. The girl was hiding her true power. Judging from the energy fluctuations when she attacked, she is at Peak Martial Vassal realm.”
Old Lei himself was a little surprised at this. He had expected her to be nothing more than an ordinary Martial Mortal. He might only have taken a quick look at her, but it was still no easy feat to hide one’s true power from him.
Moreover, the means by which she concealed her power seemed familiar to him as well.
“What? Peak Martial Vassal?” Wun Fan was shocked. A fourteen-year-old girl could reach Peak Martial Vassal? His own older brother, Wun Him, first lineage disciple of the Wun Clan, had only just recently reached Peak Martial Vassal at the age of fifteen.
Old Lei gave Wun Fan thoughtful advice, “Kid, Heaven’s Martial World is big, far bigger than you can imagine. There is no shortage of prodigies in this world; only a shortage of opportunities to grow stronger. You are prideful, kid and you have the talent to back it up, but I must warn you, you do not possess the strength needed to tower above others yet. It is not too late for you to stand out when your feathers have fully grown in. Do not press the issue and act recklessly.”
“Not dying is the only way you can become the strongest in this world,” Old Lei concluded.
Wun Fan fell silent as he tried his best to digest what Old Lei had told him. He thought back to everything that had happened to him in the past few days and replied solemnly, “I understand, Old Lei. I’ll be careful.”
“Mm,” said Old Lei. Wun Fan’s ability to easily accept and understand what he taught him was exactly what he liked about him. Wun Fan worried him sometimes, but it was always easy to teach him the correct thing to do.
“Lethality: Swift Leaves’ Slashing Sword!” the girl cried as she pointed with her fingers. The leaves around her instantly shot forth, having become exceedingly sharp now that they were infused with soul energy. Moreover, the amount of leaves was overwhelming. It was an excellent display of countering an enemy’s offense with an attack of her own. The two men might be able to injure the girl if they simply endured the attack and trade blows. However, given their numbers advantage, they didn’t have to needlessly injure themselves.
Thus, Two and Wong Sam Biu stopped in their tracks. They grabbed their weapon hand with their other hand and interrupted their own technique. Instead, they put their sabers in front of them to block the leaf swords.
Clang!
Slash!
Several leaves were stuck on the sabers, but many more of them managed to graze them. The cuts were shallow, but the soul energy infused in the leaves caused the wounds to continue bleeding. However, they were not in any danger of bleeding out for the moment.
“Six!” Two shouted. The man standing behind him knew exactly what he wanted. He let out another howl, “Lethality: Fearless Rhythm!”
The howl echoed in the air. This time, the other five men joined in, letting out howls of their own. The howls merged and reverberated around them, forming an unusual rhythm. The first howl was high in pitch, the second was long and drawn-out, the third was short and quick, while the fourth, fifth and sixth howls seemed to echo more than the others.
Wolves hunted in packs. In the face of an enemy, their howls were like sounding the horns of battle, awakening a primal instinct within their companions. It was also a battle cry and a boost in morale.
The bleeding from the cuts stopped instantly after the howls. Scabs had even started growing on the smaller cuts. Two and Wong Sam Biu were once again raring to go. They stared at the girl with vicious eyes.
Who would’ve thought a simple howl would be so powerful?
“Hmph! Sound techniques?” The girl scoffed and pulled out a leaf. She was going to show them a sound technique of her own. She pinched the leaf between her index and middle finger and pressed it to her lips. She then blew lightly into the leaf as she said, “Lethality: Sorrowful Winds, Ringing Leaves.”
A crisp and sharp flute-like noise cut across the air. A sad tune echoed in everyone’s ears. Everyone who heard it suddenly felt a crippling sensation of sorrow in their hearts. They couldn’t help but clasp their chest in agony. All the fighting spirit that they had built up was shattered in an instant.
Even Wun Fan, who was just sitting by the side felt uncomfortable, like something was tugging at his heart. Sorrowful, uncomfortable images appeared in his mind. However, his heart was strong and he was able to calm himself down after several seconds. He continued chewing on the beef on his plate. Old Lei was satisfied with his performance. He would have chewed him out if it had been so easy to disrupt his mental state.
The horse beside him, on the other hand, had started crying, the tears staining the white hair around its nose.
“Old Lei, this is a sound technique?” asked Wun Fan. The unusual techniques had made him curious. He was increasingly interested in the martial techniques of Heaven’s Martial World.
“Indeed. There are all sorts of strange and unusual martial techniques in this world. Even my knowledge barely scratches the surface of all there is. I can’t say that I am knowledgeable in this topic at all,” said Old Lei, before giving out advice again, “So remember, never underestimate anyone. To underestimate an opponent is to put your life at risk.”
“Understood!”
The girl smiled at the sight of her sound technique taking effect. She didn’t give her opponents any time to respond after blowing into the leaf. She immediately stepped forward and charged at them. Her body was incredibly flexible. She was able to cross a tremendous distance withe very stride. In just three seconds, she was already pressing in on the Green Wolf Gang members.
“I’ll handle it,” said Cheung Yun Ching. He couldn’t hold back anymore. He drew his saber and gripped it with both hands. He lunged forward like a hungry wolf, ferocious and savage, as he slashed down with a shout, “Lethality: Wolf Fang’s Bloody Banquet!”
A hungry wolf leapt across the air, taking advantage of the light behind it shining into the girl’s eyes to obscure its movements. The wolf bared its fangs and bit at the young girl.
The girl did not panic. She had a proper stance and could retreat at any time. Upon seeing Cheung Yun Ching leaping into the air, she immediately pivoted left, as if moving with the wind. The girl was clearly walking on the snow, but somehow, to Wun Fan, it looked as if she was gliding above it.
She avoided Cheung Yun Ching’s powerful attack with ease. The wolf’s fang hit nothing but the ground, sending snow flying into the air. Cheung Yun Ching thought to himself, Is she really a Peak Martial Mortal?
He wasn’t powerful enough to see through the girl’s concealment and was still ignorant of her true power.
The five men instantly knew what to do when they saw their captain’s attack miss. They rushed at the girl. They surrounded her and attacked her in organized waves. The girl was constantly dodging their attacks, but someone’s attack would always reach her right after she moved. The men were only Martial Mortals, but they were able to effectively suppress the girl with their combination tactics.
The girl wasn’t frustrated by this. Instead, she smiled and channelled soul energy into her storage ring. She scattered green leaves all around her, even as if weaved between the men. Once the leaves had reached a certain amount, she waved her hands and unleashed her soul energy. The soul energy reached out and pulled the leaves closer to her.
“Lethality: Brisk Wind’s Flying Leaves Dance.”
A brisk wind appeared, causing the dozens of green leaves to spin around the girl. Every leaf was incredibly sharp, slicing up the Green Wolf Gang members as they approached the girl. Not only were they unable to hurt her, they were each left with a dozen cuts.
It was like looking at six clumsy wolves trying to surround a cunning fox. The fox was agile and elegant, switching easily between advancing and retreating, offense and defense. Meanwhile, the clumsy wolves moved clumsily, and could only surround the fox, without any means of hurting it. In the end, they would starve, as every bite they tried to inflict on their prey would only cause them more harm.
“Lethality: Greedy Wolves’ Devouring Slash!” Four, Five and Six shouted in unison. The three of them unleashed a barrage of eighteen total strikes, each coming from a different angle and direction. However, the girl simply sidestepped every one of them.
“Lethality: Savage Wolf’s Saber,” muttered Cheung Yun Ching as he suddenly appeared behind the girl. He slashed diagonally from down to up, the air rippling outwards with his attack. To everyone’s surprise, the girl did a split and slipped away with her body almost pressing against the ground. She did not give them a chance to engage in a melee brawl.
The girl seemed to have grown tired of the fight. Her smile turned into a serious expression as she said, “Alright, I’m done playing with you all. It’s going to be trouble if they catch up to me.” Having said that, she took out a handful of flowers from her ring. With every step, she flicked her fingers and shot several red flowers into the sky.
Strangely enough, as the flowers drifted down, they suddenly stopped in midair, laying suspended like petals in water.
“What’s going on?” Wun Fan opened his eyes wide in disbelief as he watched the scene unfold. As the girl continued to move, the flowers in the sky reached over a hundred in number.
The girl finally smiled again as she said, “Lethality: Sky Waters Float Falling Flowers.”
She rolled on the ground and leapt away, leaving the men under the sea of flowers. The members of the Green Wolf Gang weren’t idiots either. Cheung Yun Ching could feel the trouble they were in and shouted for his men to scatter. The men did so as quickly as they could.
Meanwhile, the girl pointed at the sky and slowly drew a circle with her index finger. The soul energy drained rapidly from her meridians and her breathing became ragged and difficult. The hundred red flowers started spinning rapidly with the movement of her finger. She looked up at the falling flowers and sighed as she recited, “Lethality: Falling Flowers’ Thousand Spinning Dance.”
She pulled her finger downward and the spinning flowers in the air returned to gravity’s influence, crashing violently down at the six men.
