It was impossible to describe the heartache that Wun Ching Yeung and the two elders felt while watching Wun Fan suffer. Wun Ching Yeung was even clasping his aching chest. There was despair in his eyes when he stared at the lightning in the skies.
It had only been four waves of lightning and Wun Fan was already in this state. What was he supposed to do when there were still three waves left? Wun Ching Yeung really wished a button would appear out of thin air; a button that could put the tribulation on pause and give Wun Fan time to breathe.
Even if it was only for a dozen seconds.
Wun Fan was kneeling on the ground, oblivious to anything happening outside. He started to come back to his senses. He exhaled, letting out a breath of scalding air. Steam rose visibly before his eyes. How high would one’s body temperature have to be to do something like this? He tried to open his eyes and could only do so very slightly, but he barely saw the purple light in the skies fade into nothing.
Just then, a shocking surge of pure aether once again erupted from the Spiritstartler Ring. It was part of the purple lightning’s power that it had just finished digesting a few seconds ago. The energy filled Wun Fan’s body. The sheer amount of pure aether damaged Wun Fan’s mending meridians once more.
However, his meridians were already in tatters. This damage was nothing compared to what he had already sustained.
Break before the forge, falter and then rise. Wasn’t this the motto for awakening one’s martial soul?
In fact, Wun Fan’s meridians being so completely injured meant that the Spiritstartler Ring did not have to hold back anymore. The aether it poured into Wun Fan’s body was actually reshaping his meridians, making them stronger and more resilient than before! Wun Fan was likely the Martial Mortal with one of, if not the strongest meridians in the world. The strength of his meridians was comparable to a Martial Colonel.
The purple lightning in the skies vanished entirely. The last trace of its aura hovering above the mountain had also disappeared. However, the thundercloud in the sky showed no signs of fading. The purple light was gone, but it was replaced with a red flash.
Compared to the purple light, the red light seemed to be even more violent. It stained the clouds completely red, unlike the flickering purple light from before. Moreover, the red light gave off a feeling of viciousness; it appeared even more threatening.
“The fifth wave!” Old Lei snapped back to his senses quickly once the purple lightning was gone. His voice was channelled into a straight line and projected to Wun Fan’s ear once more. Wun Fan nodded his head with much difficulty. His entire body was still hurting from the pain of having his meridians reshaped. His body even showed signs of a stroke for several seconds; a defense mechanism in response to the immense pain. There was no such thing as ‘being ready’.
Just as Old Lei had said that one time, one word encapsulated the only thing you could do in the face of a lightning tribulation, “Endure.”
Red light glared within the clouds. The Fifth Lightning Domain: Maximal Overflow.
Clouds and winds of the vast heavens shift and splash, in boundless mist the seas of lightning thrash.
Years and decades of lightning fury dammed in a cache, till overflowing clouds bring a sentence of pounded flesh.
The dam in the clouds can no longer hold back the lightning pool, which has been gathering power for decades now. A moment’s weakness and the overflowing dam burst, releasing maximal lightning and unleashing an ancient method of execution upon the criminals branded by the heavens itself. Minced flesh: the criminal is hacked and chopped until they have been reduced to meat paste.
The lightning pool in the skies could no longer be held back. The cloud dam bursts. Maximal lightning floods the earth as the wave devours the shore. Yet, even though it is a bursting dam, the falling lightning appeared to fall at its own pace, as if someone was filming the whole thing in slow motion. It was a red sea spilling upon the world!
It was a strange sight, as if heaven and earth were finally joined as one by a bright red waterfall.
Wun Fan was still kneeling on the ground. All his delusions vanished when he saw the red lightning descend. The paralyzed muscles on his face tried to arrange themselves into a bitter smile. His tense and rigid body slowly relaxed. The only emotion he felt towards the spilling sea of lightning from above was awe.
Doubt appeared in his mind, “Is it because I was reincarnated in Heaven’s Martial World?”
“Why else would the heavens hate me so? So much that they would unleash the Seven Lightning Dominions on me? Because it rejects an outsider like myself?”
Just then, a delicate girl’s voice could be heard from a distance, “Wun Fan!”
Wun Ching Yeung and the two elders saw seven shadow guards attempt to stop a red silhouette from walking forward. One of the shadow guards shouted furiously, “Miss Siu Lan, please stop or we will be forced to attack you!”
Wun Siu Lan had an incredible ominous feeling tonight as she was meditating quietly in her room, as if something very important to her was about to be gone forever. She heard the roaring thunder outside and the sense of unease only grew. Thus, she ignored the objections of the guards outside her door and walked out of the room.
The moment she saw the thundercloud in the sky, Wun Siu Lan knew: this was Wun Fan’s lightning tribulation.
Who else amongst the younger generation of the Wun Clan could have the talent to draw such a powerful tribulation lightning on themselves? She didn’t believe anyone other than Wun Fan could be envied by the heavens so.
She hurried over. She didn’t know what help she could do. All she knew was that she had to hurry over.
“The first flame, Crimson Lotus Karma is its name, severs the sin of ten thousand worldly shame,” Wun Siu Lan’s face was fixed in a determined expression. She showed no fear as she conjured all her soul energy and leapt forward with unstoppable momentum against the barricade of shadow guards, “Crimson Lotus Karmic Flame!”
“Wun Fan, no one can take your life, not even the heavens themselves!” She screamed hoarsely in Wun Fan’s direction and glared furiously at the skies.
Wun Siu Lan took off her mask. Extraordinary resolution lay within her eyes. No one could take Wun Fan from this world without her permission.
They would have to step over her dead body to take his life!
“Brat!” The great elder howled and sprinted in Wun Siu Lan’s direction. Anyone could see the resolution in Wun Siu Lan’s eyes. She was only ten years old. Where had this courage to die for someone else come from?
Was she naive? Stupid? Or just ignorant?
The seven shadow guards drew their swords simultaneously. They had decided on their plan with but a shared glance and breath. Injuring Wun Siu Lan was nothing compared to letting her throw her life away. Worst comes to worst, the seven of them would simply kill themselves to pay for their insolence.
White clouds float leisurely in the skies, dark shadows wait loyally on the ground. The shadow guards were like shadows on the earth, the most loyal guardians of the Wun Clan. So what if they could not be seen or appreciated? What mattered was that all could see the white clouds in the sky.
“Lethality: Descending Surge of the Spiral Sword.” Soul energy surged from all seven of the shadow guards. Power rushed from the hilt of their swords to the tip of their blades. They swung their swords outwards, the tip of the blade pointing towards the ground. Seven whirlwinds encircled Wun Siu Lan and rushed towards her, cutting her off entirely.
Wun Siu Lan only grew even more furious. She let out a piercing scream and ignited all of her soul energy. An eerie crimson fire clad her entire person like a robe. She kicked with her feet and charged forward. Even the sword formation of seven peak Martial Masters wasn’t enough to stop her.
Siu Lan was covered from head to toe in cuts by the time she made it out of the sword formation. She was bathed in blood and her white robes had turned red. On a closer look, one of the wounds on her snow-white arm was so deep you could see the bone. The shadow guards couldn’t help but say, “Please stop, Miss Siu Lan.”
“Ah…” Siu Lan shouted rebelliously and summoned her green flame, “Black Warrior’s Tomb Guardian Flame!”
The second flame, Black Warrior Spirit is its name, the emperors’ tomb it staunchly frames. When this fire was summoned, all three thousand of her pressure points were protected. All the wounds on her body stopped bleeding and small tendrils of flesh started to grow as they healed, giving her the ability to press forward.
All of this was so that she could get closer to Wun Fan, even if only by an inch.
A hundred and thirty meters.
A hundred and ten meters.
Even an ordinary person who knew absolutely nothing about martial arts, upon looking at the sheer size of the lightning in the sky, would know that its victim was doomed to certain death. Are you joking? Couldn’t you see the overflowing lightning from the skies? Such a vast sea of lightning was being poured upon mortal earth. How could anyone hope to survive something like that?
However, Wun Siu Lan didn’t care. All she wanted to do in the face of this calamity was to be by Wun Fan’s side; just as he had protected her when she welcomed death all those years ago.
Back then, she was selfish and hoped for death, believing that it would bring her peace. It was Wun Fan who saved her. Couldn’t she be selfish just one more time now?
Ninety meters.
Eighty meters.
Wun Siu Lan could see the distorted expression on Wun Fan’s face and felt a stabbing pain in her heart. Her poor Fan. He was in so much pain that he couldn’t even control the expression on his face and yet he was still trying his best to put on a smile. His lips moved but no voice came out of his mouth.
Wun Siu Lan could see him barely saying, “Siu Lan, stop it…”
Siu Lan blinked and saw the great elder appear before her with a solemn expression, “Brat, this is not a game. You won’t be able to help Fan even if you go to him now.”
“I don’t care! I don’t care that I can’t help him. I don’t care if I die!” This was the first time in Wun Siu Lan’s life being so unreasonable. Her words reflected her overwhelming anxiety.
She and Wun Fan might share the same last name; perhaps they could only remain siblings or perhaps they might be able to become a couple in the future. It didn’t matter. She would not let Wun Fan be alone!
She completely ignored the great elder’s presence and turned to walk past him towards the falling lightning.
“Lethality: Thousand Sword Locks,” the great elder made a gripping motion and several dozen energy swords appeared out of thin air, restraining Wun Siu Lan’s limbs. The great elder didn’t let down his guard. After all, it would be disastrous if Wun Siu Lan were to break free. He continued to apply even more sword locks on Siu Lan, trying to restrict the movements of even her fingers before he could relax.
“Ugh!” Wun Siu Lan broke out in tears. All the soul energy throughout her body erupted. She struggled with all she had, but she could not break free of the great elder’s sword locks. Her eyes were wide open as she watched the horrifying red lightning sea slowly fall upon Wun Fan.
Old Lei took advantage of the time to recover as much strength as possible, but even he could only watch as the red lightning descended from the heavens and engulfed Wun Fan. Right before the red lightning reached Wun Fan’s body, Old Lei could see the gratitude in his eyes, almost as if he was bidding farewell to him. He seemed to have resigned himself to death.
“Kid!” Old Lei had never expected two measly pills to bring about the Seven Lightning Dominions. Guilty and regret filled his heart. He had never felt something like this.
“Ugh…” Wun Fan crumpled to the ground when hit by the lightning. He couldn’t even let out a single grunt in pain. His body was pressed into the ground by the immeasurable weight of the lightning bolt. All the bones in his body were ground to powder, all his organs crushed into paste.
Even his skull was no exception. Gray matter, white matter, black matter, all of it was turned into a puddle of blood.
In just a single instant, his body had been flattened like a piece of paper.425Please respect copyright.PENANA8cfHh363NB
