Wun Fan turned around and saw a martial artist freely radiating his aura next to the receptionists. He was probably a guard here to ensure the safety of the receptionists.
After all, not all martial artists were good people. If anyone were to have any bad intentions and tried to make any sort of move on the receptionists, they would be rewarded with broken limbs.
Wun Fan carefully sensed the guard’s aura. He was actually on par with the second elder and the third elder. He was almost definitely an Innate Martial Master. Wun Fan took a few steps forward as he thought in his mind, “Old Lei, what do you think of this place?”
“Hm,” replied Old Lei. He thought for a moment and said, “The fengshui placement of this place is excellent. Energy is directed outwards from the inside gently and naturally. The five elements exist in harmony: water under the earth, wood within the water, fire beside the wood, metal close to the fire, and earth rising from the metal.”
“That said, the five elements and fengshui is a deep and profound subject. Even I can’t claim to have a basic understanding of it. The person who made this arrangement is not an expert either. The five elements here exist in harmony, but not in synergy. The person who did this only has a surface understanding of the craft.”
Wun Fan was speechless when he heard this. If even such an elaborate arrangement was considered amateurish when it came to the five elements, then what would true mastery of the five elements look like? The wonders of Heaven’s Martial World were truly unimaginable! Fiery passion burned in Wun Fan’s heart once again. He was determined to become stronger and stronger. Only with enough power could he forge a place for himself in this world and protect the people important to him.
The most important to do as an individual is to take good care of the people you love.
“Hey, Little Wun, come on! Let’s go! I’m really hungry!” said Hung Yu Fei as she shoved Wun Fan. Wun Fan rolled his eyes in disdain.
And that list of important people definitely did not include this girl, thought Wun Fan.
The two of them saw a wooden board as they walked toward the reception. That was almost certainly the mission board. Plenty of the same mission boards were placed everywhere, preventing the need for everyone crowding around the same place.
Many notices had been placed on the board, written in neat calligraphy. One such mission notice looked like it had just been issued today and read:
14/1 Naap-Lan Empire Calendar Year 2999
Mission: Wolfape Extermination
Description: Exterminate the wolfape band located at coordinate (-19999, 20) of the outermost area of Green Sea Forest. Witness claims that the band of wolfapes number above fifty members.
Requirements: None
Reward: 6 gold coins
Proof of Completion: 30 wolfape inner cores
Other Information: Wolfapes are typically lower class-two magical beasts
“Lower class-two magical beasts?” Wun Fan asked in his own mind again. Old Lei immediately replied, “The ranking system of magical beasts corresponds to the realms of martial artists. Disciple Mortal Vassal Scholar Master, Innate Colonel General Spirit Baron.”
So, lower class-two was equivalent to a novice Martial Mortal. Wun Fan’s eyes opened wide in shock. Only six gold coins as a reward for killing fifty Martial Mortal-level magical beasts? Wasn’t that way too little?
“No wonder you always say that alchemists are wealthy. While other people risk their lives for six gold coins, all we have to do is sell a few pills and make a thousand gold coins,” said Wun Fan. Capitalism is truly the root of all evil.
“Tsk! You idiot, the inner cores that they get from hunting the magical beasts are a source of income in itself,” said Old Lei disdainfully. How could a usually smart kid like Wun Fan be so stupid sometimes?
Wun Fan immediately understood. It seemed like there was a blind spot to his logic.
As Wun Fan mused about the missions, the three of them arrived at the reception. Fung Ching took the lead in talking.
“Hi! Welcome to the Green Sea Forest branch of the Martial Artist Guild. My name is Siu Sheung. Happy to serve you!” said the receptionist. She was quite pretty with a refreshing face. Her professional smile was friendly and not too stiff.
“Hi, my two companions here want to register as guild members so that they can take on missions,” said Fung Ching as he pointed at Wun Fan and Hung Yu Fei. The receptionist was a little surprised when she saw this and said, “Sir, are you referring to these two…little teenagers?”
“Yup!”
The receptionist didn’t quite know how to respond. Wun Fan and Hung Yu Fei were just so young. A few moments later, she snapped back to her senses and took out two registration forms. She maintained a professional front, even when she was dealing with kids, and said, “Sir, madam, please fill up this form first. Then, go to the second floor for a test.”
Wun Fan looked at the form. It was all basic details. He could fill it out quickly, but there was a field that he didn’t understand. It read ‘Organization/Party’. Wun Fan asked Fung Ching about it.
He replied, “Most martial artists will form parties. You just have to register your party with the Martial Artist Guild and you will be acknowledged as a group. It’s necessary because some missions can only be accepted by parties of certain sizes.”
“Oh, I see,” said Wun Fan as he nodded his head. He picked up the soul energy pen on the mahogany table. He poured soul energy into it and ink came out. He filled out the form in under thirty seconds and returned it to the receptionist.
Of course, his handwriting was a little messy because of that. Hung Yu Fei finished a little bit after he did. Her words were round, cute and lady-like.
“Please head up to the first floor, go to the end of the hallway and ask to test your power,” said the receptionist as she put away the forms and pointed in a certain direction.
Wun Fan walked all across the hall and saw no stairs. There was only a thick steel plate at the end of the hallway. He couldn’t help but say, “Hm? Weren’t we supposed to go to the second floor for the test?”
Fung Ching pointed at the ground with a mischievous smile and said, “It’s right over there!”
Clang! Someone suddenly crashed down from above and landed heavily on the steel plate, sending dust into the air. Hung Yu Fei was surprised by this and almost leaped into the air. Wun Fan looked up and saw a signboard hanging ten meters above his head. ‘First floor’, it read. This was the entrance to the first floor.
The person had clearly used soul energy when he came down earlier, but the guards didn’t react. Did that mean that the only time people were allowed to use soul energy was when they were travelling between the different floors?
“Haha! Interesting!” said Wun Fan. He never expected there to be no stairs between the ground floor and the first floor. Was this a test?
“Oh, so this is the test they have here. It’s different from the one back in the capital,” muttered Hung Yu Fei to herself, “That said, it shouldn’t be this easy, right?”
Wun Fan heard this and learned that every Martial Artist Guild branch had different tests. It seemed like the test in front of him wasn’t going to be a breeze. Ten meters was a lot, but for a Martial Mortal, it shouldn’t be an insurmountable challenge. If they used all their strength and some equipment to help them, they should be able to make it up. In the worst case, they could also just get a companion to hop up there and drop a rope down for them.
There was no point in overthinking it. It was best to try it himself!
Wun Fan stepped on the steel plate and immediately felt a sticky force wrapped around his legs, making it difficult to generate any force.
“Hmph! You think this will stop me?”
Fung Ching was planning to enjoy the show and watch Wun Fan flop the test. After all, he had been way too arrogant earlier when they met. He would love to see this kid run into a wall. However, to his surprise, Wun Fan conjured his soul energy without hesitation, “Martial soul, descend!”
The soul energy steeped in death aura flowed across his body, glowing with a faint gray light. A bit of his death aura radiated into the air, drawing the attention of the more righteous martial artists. Gray light flickered in Wun Fan’s eyes. His lips curled into a slightly arrogant smile as he raised his hand, clenched his fingers into the shape of a claw and said, “Lethality: Dragon’s Draw, Forceful Attraction!”
A powerful suction force erupted from his hand and latched onto the hole in the ceiling. The force forcefully pulled him up. Right when he was about to reach, Wun Fan did a backflip and landed firmly on the first floor!
“That easy?!” said Fung Ching in astonishment. He had to hold onto his jaw to make sure it didn’t hang from his mouth. This test adjusted its strength based on the power of the person. The more powerful you were, the stronger the suction force. While the suction force wasn’t too strong for a Martial Mortal, it wasn’t supposed to be an easy task to jump up. People usually had to try several times before they got it!
