Soul energy surged through his hand and into the soul-testing stone. A shockwave of pure soul energy radiated outward. Even the stone itself started quaking uncontrollably, rattling against the table. A short moment later, the soul-testing stone let out a clear ringing sound that could be heard throughout the first floor.
“Mm? That’s weird. I have never seen the soul-testing stone have such a weird reaction,” said a middle-aged man who had been observing the tests. Fung Ching and Hung Yu Fei also stared at the soul-testing stone intently. The stone lit up with bright light as the patterns formed three words.
‘Special’.
‘99’.
‘Special’ meant that Wun Fan’s soul energy was of an attribute beyond the five elements, or something that could not be determined. These attributes were collectively called special attributes. As for the ‘99’, it meant that Wun Fan’s soul energy’s purity was at 99 percent.
“What!” Fung Ching and Hung Yu Fei cried out loud at the same time. They were so surprised that their jaws were wide open.
Someone from Wun Fan’s past life once said that success is 1 percent talent and 99 percent hard work. The purity of soul energy was the opposite. While the purity of the soul energy had much to do with how hardworking a martial artist was, the most important factor that affected the purity of soul energy was the strength and sensitivity of a martial artist’s mental energy.
That 1 percent of talent was far more important than hard work!
With a sufficiently powerful and sensitive mental energy, you could easily find and remove impurities from your soul energy. It was like trying to pick salt out of a pile of sand. It might not be difficult to pick the salt out initially, but once the ratio of sand to salt goes from 6:4 to 9:1, it would become exponentially difficult.
Fung Ching had been unconvinced by Wun Fan’s victory over him. He felt like Wun Fan only managed to catch his moment of weakness by sheer luck. If he had not been focused on saving the woman, Wun Fan would never have had the chance to get close to him!
However, when he saw Wun Fan’s soul energy purity at 99 percent, despite him being a Martial Mortal, he couldn’t help but exclaim, “There really are many prodigies in the world!”
Even the guild staff was shocked by this number. She looked at the young boy helplessly, unsure of how to respond.
“Mm,” said Wun Fan. He didn’t think much of his soul energy purity. After all, the one doing the purification wasn’t himself. That said, the result did allow him to gain a better understanding of the Spiritstartler Ring’s marvelous powers.
“Wun Fan, sir, your special attribute soul energy has a purity of 99 percent!”
Everyone in the hall was stunned to hear this and the gossiping immediately began! The crowd’s murmuring could be heard in the hall as people’s burning gazed turned toward Wun Fan. Wun Fan didn’t like the attention. He stepped forward and placed both hands on the striking stone. He wanted to finish this test as quickly as possible.
With Old Lei’s help, the Spiritstartler Ring immediately replenished the soul energy that Wun Fan had consumed. Wun Fan exhausted half of all his soul energy on his attack as he said, “Lethality: Dragon’s Might, Fierce Blast!”
A powerful shockwave erupted from his palm at point-blank distance. The striking stone’s base was impacted with tremendous force. A loud thud echoed throughout the first floor. The entirety of the stone, along with its base, was knocked several feet backward, screeching as it scraped the wooden floor.
Wun Fan knew his martial techniques better now. He prepared himself before his attack and immediately took a few steps backward after he unleashed the shockwave. This helped him negate the recoil and prevented him from falling over and making a fool of himself.
Characters immediately formed on the striking stone. 699.
This number was even higher than Hung Yu Fei’s score!
Wun Fan had only used half of his soul energy in this attack. If he had used all of it, his attack would be much stronger!
Of course, this wasn’t necessarily an accurate reflection of Wun Fan’s combat power relative to Hung Yu Fei. That said, it did mean that Wun Fan could output more power in a single attack compared to her.
“Mr. Wun, the power of your attack is 699,” said the guild staff, once again rocked to her core. To think a novice Martial Mortal could have such shocking attack power! As expected of a disciple of the martial Wun Clan.
She couldn’t help but be curious, however. The disciples of the Wun Clan typically had swords as their martial souls.
Meanwhile, Fung Ching and Hung Yu Fei looked at Wun Fan in disbelief, as if they were looking at a monster. They had to collect their thoughts. Meanwhile, the guild staff quickly composed herself. She was a staff member of the guild, after all. Her job was to serve the guild members while remaining professional.
She took out a soul energy pen specifically used for guild business and imbued it with soul energy. A different-colored ink came out and she quickly filled out a form made out of leather. She passed the form to the two of them and said, “Thank you for showing your true power. Please head downstairs to collect your proof of your guild membership. You will be able to accept missions appropriate to your strength in the hall after that.”
“Thank you,” said Wun Fan as he fixed his clothes. He took the leather form and walked to the first-floor entrance as everyone watched. Hung Yu Fei and Fung Ching quickly caught up to him, ignoring everyone’s burning gazes.
“Dragon’s Might, Fierce Blast!” cried Wun Fan as he jumped down from the first floor. He unleashed a shockwave right before he landed, canceling out his fall and saving his knees from the impact. If he was powerful enough, the technique might even be enough to lift him off the ground, effectively allowing him to fly.
Hung Yu Fei also had excellent movement abilities. She threw out a few leaves and hopped between them, landing gently on the ground. Her short hair bobbed slightly as her feet touched the ground. She even looked quite elegant to Wun Fan as she did so. However, she immediately turned around and complained, “Tsk! Whoever made these tests had to have been bored out of their minds.”
This girl always chooses the worst moment to talk.
Fung Ching was much simpler and more direct with his approach. He jumped off and landed heavily on the steel plate, knocking dust into the air and causing a loud clang.
The three of them walked to the reception on the ground floor and found Siu Sheung, who had helped them with their registration earlier. They handed the leather form over and asked, “Who do we talk to if we want to rest here for the night?”
Siu Sheung revealed her professional but friendly smile and pointed at the doors as she explained, “If you want to stay at the guild, you can turn right after exiting the building and walk for a minute and you will find the guild’s inn. There are different prices for different rooms.”
“Mm,” said Wun Fan with a nod. Siu Sheung passed two small cards to them, about three fingers wide. There were some strange patterns on the cards, probably the work of artificers. Siu Sheung then said, “Congratulations on becoming members of the Martial Artist Guild. Please take good care of your membership card. You can use it to accept missions from the notice board.”
“Got it,” said Wun Fan before looking for a seat. After all, the journey here had been quite long and tiring. The three of them found a small and round table and sat down. A few moments later, a staff member of the guild came over and said, “What would you like to order?”
Wun Fan’s throat was a little dry. He had more than enough drinking water in his ring, but owing to his old man’s influence from his past life, he had a liking for tea. He picked up the menu on the table and saw that there was brownleaf tea. Brownleaf tea was the most similar in taste, smell and quality to pu’er tea. That’s why Wun Fan always referred to it as pu’er. The servants in the Wun Clan also knew what Wun Fan wanted when he told them to brew a pot of pu’er for him.
“A pot of brownleaf tea, please. And a bowl of green onion noodles as well,” ordered Wun Fan. He closed his eyes and rested. Meanwhile, he started thinking about how he should get rid of the annoying pest that was Hung Yu Fei.
For some reason, he had a weird feeling that this girl might stick around with him for the rest of his life. He felt oddly anxious at the thought of that and immediately shook his head to get rid of that feeling.
However, Hung Yu Fei’s voice immediately rang out by his ear as she rattled off a list of orders, “Give me sauteed mutton and leek, a claypot mushroom rice, a whole braised chicken and three bowls of slow-cooked soup!”
The waiter looked at Fung Ching, who ordered a large glass of water. He then said, “Alright, please wait for a moment.” He then wiped down the table and left to put in the orders.
Fung Ching looked a little awkward. He stared at Wun Fan and then at Hung Yu Fei hesitantly. He seemed like he wanted to say something, but couldn’t quite bring himself to do it. There was a piece of parchment in his hands.215Please respect copyright.PENANAUNuqPDm6tg
