A few seconds ago, three men stepped past the doors of the Martial Artist Guild. The leader had a wolf tattoo on his arm and eyes filled with murderous intent, like a hungry wolf ready to pounce. Suddenly, he spotted something. He looked down at the contents of the scroll in his hands and his eyes locked on to Wun Fan’s silhouette.
Wun Fan’s senses had become extremely sensitive after he awakened his martial soul. He could sense minute differences in sound, taste, light and aura. He could feel a faint murderous intent lock on to his back. He turned around immediately and his eyes met someone else’s.
“Oh, someone from the Green Wolf Gang,” said Wun Fan to himself. The tattoo on the man’s arm told him all he needed to know. He narrowed his eyes and smiled mischievously. He rubbed his teacup and muttered, “They move fast.”
Wun Fan saw the man looking down at his scroll and back at him and knew what was going on. That scroll had to be a portrait of him and Hung Yu Fei. It was obvious what he was planning to do if he came here to the Martial Artist Guild with a portrait in hand. It was either to put a bounty on them or to find them himself.
Neither of those was good news.
However, Wun Fan was quite curious about how the Green Wolf Gang managed to get their portraits. Their gang members looked like bandits and ruffians, and the third brother especially so. He was a cunning opponent, but he shouldn’t be good enough with his hands to draw their likeness.
Interesting!
Hung Yu Fei and Fung Ching heard what Wun Fan said. They turned around and saw the three men at the entrance. It was obvious that these people were their enemies. Their expressions turned solemn. Meanwhile, Wun Fan still looked calm and relaxed as he said, “Let’s eat first.”
At any rate, there was no way they would dare to attack them while they were still in the Martial Artist Guild. Meanwhile, Hung Yu Fei said in an excited tone, “Ooh, someone’s here for revenge!”
Wun Fan and Fung Ching looked at each others, the corners of their mouth twitching. What was wrong with this girl exactly?211Please respect copyright.PENANAllkdAPJ7o1
The man that the Green Wolf Gang had sent here was the captain of the Flower Thief Squad, Chai Chau Chin. This matter concerned his squad members. Naturally, he was the one who should deal with it. The Gang providing him with the money for the bounty was already very kind of them.
Chai Chau Chin was born into poverty. The farmers had a saying: a child with a commoner’s name is easy to bring up. There was another saying amongst the farmers: an unlucky life is nothing to be feared; but an unlucky name is something to be feared. Conversely, that meant that a good name would bring about good fortune. Chai Chau Chin was given his name, written with the characters for firewood, wine and money, because his parents hoped that he would bring good fortunate to the family, that they would never be lacking in firewood, wine or money again. When he became an adult, Chai Chau Chin’s parents fell sick and died without the money to treat their illness. So, Chai Chau Chin joined the Green Wolf Gang and was given rigorous training. He awakened his martial soul and obtained status and power for himself. After years of loyalty to the Green Wolf Gang, he was finally appointed as the captain of the Flower Thief Squad.
The missions of the Green Wolf Gang were always difficult, but there were benefits too. The leader would always cover for them and there was always plenty of rewards for those who accomplished their missions. Naturally, his work for the Gang made him a wealthy man. If nothing unexpected happened, he would be able to retire in a few more years. He could leave for a distant village, marry a pretty wife, have several children and live out the rest of his life in leisure.
How long had it been since someone dared to touch one of his men? To go up against the Green Wolf Gang? Chai Chau Chin didn’t really want to get involved with this affair, but it was too late now. His subordinates had been killed. He would lose all authority and respect if he didn’t avenge them.
Chai Chau Chin walked into the Martial Artist Guild with two members of his squad to put out a bounty on Wun Fan and Hung Yu Fei. Any sort of bounty or mission was permitted at the Martial Artist Guild. The Guild was a special case and a neutral organization that did not take sides.
Some adventurers even took to calling the Guild the Zero Hour Club. It was an organization that neither existed in the morning or night. It does not ask for reasons, nor does it differentiate between good and evil. It was perfectly neutral, where bounty was the only speech that mattered.
In fact, the very same notice boards at the Guild were filled with bounties for the heads of the mayor of the Green Sea Town, the extermination of the Green Wolf Gang and the arrest of their leader, Yu Sap Bat. Of course, no one could accomplish any of these tasks.
With enough money, you could even get the devil himself to push a mill. This was the bounty system of the Martial Artist Guild. Anyone was free to put out a bounty and anyone was free to claim it.
Chai Chau Chin compared Wun Fan to the portrait on his scroll the moment he saw him, but he still couldn’t be completely sure. However, when he saw Hung Yu Fei sitting beside Wun Fan, he knew he had found the right people.
Enemies with a grudge often clash most violently. Cai Zai Cin had been cut by Hung Yu Fei’s martial technique yesterday when she escaped. The injury was still hurting now and would occasionally still bleed. There was strange soul energy latching onto the wound that kept it from healing. He had tried many things and he still couldn’t get rid of this strange soul energy.
His murderous intent erupted out of him and lunged at Wun Fan. That was why Wun Fan had sensed it so clearly and turned around to look at him. Wun Fan flashed him a sinister smile then.
Chai Chau Chin immediately felt anger bubbling inside him. His murderous intent turned even stronger and started to seep out into the surroundings. Suddenly, a silhouette flickered and appeared before Chai Chau Chin, almost bumping into him. He stared coldly into Chai Chau Chin’s eyes as he said, “I would like to remind everyone that this is the Martial Artist Guild.”
This person was the martial artist who had been standing beside the receptionists earlier. The aura he casually gave off had been enough to intimidate all the adventurers in the Guild. His one warning immediately put a halt to Chai Chau Chin’s murderous intent.
He came to his senses and said, “My apologies!” He wouldn’t ever dare to start trouble in the Martial Artist Guild, even if he had a hundred lives to spare. He knew he was in the wrong and immediately apologized, his anger completely dissipating into thin air.
After all, the first rule of the Green Wolf Gang stated: dignity is worth nothing; it will only get you in trouble.
The Innate Martial Master guard didn’t press the issue. Plenty of people cause trouble in the Martial Artist Guild every year. Without exception, they were all rewarded with an express trip to hell to reunite with their lost acquaintances. He didn’t think that this man would dare to toe the line again after that warning. Having said that, he stepped back and returned to the reception desk.
Chai Chau Chin led his two subordinates towards the seating area and sat somewhere close to Wun Fan and the others. He looked at the three of them angrily.
Wun Fan didn’t care. He was used to such gazes from his previous life. He felt perfectly relaxed even when dealing with gazes colder and more severe than this. On the other hand, Hung Yu Fei and Fung Ching were a little uncomfortable. Fung Ching couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Wun, may I ask what your plan is?”
Fung Ching didn’t mind fighting these people. They were members of the Green Wolf Gang and had almost certainly committed their fair share of evil deeds. Killing them would be justice for this world. However, he was working with Wun Fan now. Asking him for his opinion was not just the polite thing to do, but also a way of showing respect.
Wun Fan couldn’t help but flash his mischievous smile as he replied, “I don’t have one. Let’s eat first. Worst comes to worst, we will carve a bloody path out of here.” He had planned to rest here at the Guild for a night, but it seemed like that plan was out of the question. If they stayed here for a night, the Green Wolf Gang would have more than enough time to gather their forces.
Chai Chau Chin bent over and whispered something into his subordinate’s ears. The subordinate nodded and walked out of the Guild.
It seemed like Wun Fan’s judgement was correct.
“Nice!” said Hung Yu Fei. Her eyes gleamed when she heard Wun Fan’s words. This sort of life, full of adventure, enemies and revenge was exactly what she had been dreaming of. It was just too boring hiding out in the capital. She even had to attend stupid social parties sometimes and put on an act of nobility. It was all so tiring.
She turned to look at Wun Fan’s face and said with a satisfied tone, “Calm, attentive to detail and cunning as well. Aren’t you a hard one to figure out! As expected, life is only interesting when hanging out with people like you.”
For some reason, Hung Yu Fei’s face felt a little swollen and red. Maybe this hall was a little too warm for her?
Just then, the waiter delivered all the dishes to their table. Wun Fan was already raring to eat. He didn’t seem anxious at all about their predicament. Instead, he grabbed his chopsticks, picked up a piece of mutton and onion and put it in his mouth. He said as he chewed, “Mm, salty but not gamey, juicy and full of the onion’s flavor. This is very well-cooked.”
Almost thirty-percent as good as Siu Lan’s cooking.
Hung Yu Fei pressed her palms against the table and leaned against it. She moved her head around and took in the smell of the food. She drooled as she said, “Wow, this look delicious.”
Wun Fan glanced at Hung Yu Fei in disdain and said, “Pig.”
“Tsk,” said Hung Yu Fei in return, but her movements were not slow at all. She immediately filled her bowl with rice and started eating.
Fung Ching was stunned for a moment, but put his hands together, hand over fist in a sign of respect. He was impressed and said, “Mr. Wun, you are truly very impressive.”
The nerves to stay calm in the face of danger was not something an ordinary person possessed. Not to mention the person before him was a young boy who was only eleven or twelve years old at beast. Fung Ching believed that he would not have such courage four years ago. Moreover, this young kid had even managed to tame the demon lord beside them.
“That’s enough. Mister this, mister that. It sounds weird. Just call me by my name.”
“Alright, Wun Fan!”
Wun Fan didn’t talk much either and added rice to his bowl. Replenishing his stamina was his top priority. While martial artists didn’t need as much sustenance from eating, it was still a fundamental need for them.
Fung Ching pointed at the parchment on the table and said to Wun Fan, “If we’re working together, we should get to know the details of this mission.”
Wun Fan glanced at the parchment. It was the mission that caught his eye when he first saw the notice board. Most of its contents were easy to understand, but the coordinates of the mission were what really got his attention.
