Wun Fan froze for a moment when he heard what Hung Yu Fei said. He turned around slowly and stared at her silently, the corner of his mouth twitching. He really didn’t know what to say. He glanced at Fung Ching and saw that he had the same exact reaction as him.
Here’s a good riddle for everyone: how ignorant would you have to be to say what Hung Yu Fei just said?
Wun Fan rubbed the area between his eyes with two fingers. He said in a tone of disbelief, “Well, there’s a five-star hotel about ten kilometers ahead of us.”
“Wow!” said Hung Yu Fei. She had no idea what five-star meant, but her eyes glowed with excitement when she heard there was a hotel ahead of them. She hopped around a bit and grabbed Wun Fan by the arm as she said impatiently, “So what are we waiting for?”
Fung Ching saw how happy she was and couldn’t bear to give her false hope. He said earnestly, “Miss Fung, about that…actually, erm…we are currently training in the wild. How could there be an inn in the forest?”
“Mm?” said Hung Yu Fei as she furrowed her brows. She said in a confused tone, “What? But Wun Fan said there is one up ahead?”
Wun Fan tried his best not to laugh. He shrugged and looked at her disdainfully as he said, “He who lies is at fault, but she who falls for it is a bigger fool.”
Hung Yu Fei would be an absolute disgrace to the Hung Clan if she didn’t know Wun Fan was tricking her by now. She immediately pouted and crossed her arms. However, a few seconds later, she realized something and said, “So where will I sleep tonight?”
“On the ground!” said Wun Fan non-chalantly. Hung Yu Fei gnashed her teeth out of annoyance. However, Wun Fan saw that it was slowly turning dark and didn’t want to get into a whole thing with Hung Yu Fei.
He didn’t want to waste precious energy dealing with her, so he took out a tent from the ring that Chan Chi Yuet gave him. It was propped up with six metal rods and appeared large enough to fit all three of them.
“Go collect some firewood, Fung Ching,” said Wun Fan as he opened up the tent. The material of the tent was some sort of strange fabric that resembled nylon from his past life. It was probably waterproof. Wun Fan took off his shoes and stepped inside. He found a piece of ore inside the tent which glowed when charged with soul energy.
There were also several sleeping bags in a corner of the tent. Chan Chi Yuet had truly thought of everything. Her face appeared in Wun Fan’s mind and he couldn’t help but feel a warm feeling in his heart.
Hung Yu Fei immediately interrupted Wun Fan’s thoughts with her loud voice as she entered the tent and said, “Wow! This looks good!”
She immediately lied down on the floor. It wasn’t very comfortable, but after a whole day of walking, she couldn’t care less.
However, she immediately of something else the very next second. She propped herself up and said, “So how am I supposed to shower tonight?”
She loved being clean and not being able to shower made her feel horrible. She looked over at Wun Fan with a pleading expression.
Wun Fan finally felt annoyed at the girl. He realized that his usually calm demeanour was always very easily taken apart by this girl and couldn’t help but get a little angry. He rolled his eyes at her and said, “Have you had enough? We are training ourselves, not going out for a leisurely vacation. If you aren’t happy with our situation, then leave now!”
Wun Fan’s anger caused his martial heart to resonate. A faint hint of murderous intent burst forth. Li’l Black slithered around restlessly, malicious intent glowing in its eyes in response to Wun Fan’s own emotions. Wun Fan started to feel impatient and the look in his eyes grew more and more menacing.
Wun Fan realized the sudden shift in his emotions and immediately started counting numbers to control his breathing, “Inhale, two, three; exhale, two, three, four.”
Old Lei seemed to have noticed Wun Fan’s situation. He immediately said, “Kid, control your mind.”
Wun Fan focused his attention on his martial heart and realized that Li’l Black’s willpower was extremely strong. It magnified Wun Fan’s killing intent, making it powerful enough to break the will of less stubborn opponents. Moreover, the Spiritstartler Ring had the ability to control auras. With proper training and control, Wun Fan might be able to kill people with his aura alone one day.
However, the side effects of Li’l Black’s ability were very obvious as well. This ability affected Wun Fan’s own emotional state, causing him to quickly shift between different emotions. If this continued, he could fly into a murderous rage over very tiny things.
“Yes, Old Lei!” said Wun Fan. He immediately closed his eyes and took control of his mind again.
Meanwhile, Hung Yu Fei could tell that Wun Fan was actually angry this time. The aura that he gave off for just a moment earlier felt like he actually wanted to kill her.
It was only then that Hung Yu Fei remembered that it had only been two days since they met. He had no reason to be so patient with her. She immediately tried to tone down her behavior and replied weakly, “No, it’s fine, I’ll just…”
“I have a wooden tub and water,” said Wun Fan weakly after taking back control of his own emotions. He said nothing more after that. Hung Yu Fei nodded her head like a chicken pecking at some grains. She didn’t dare to raise any opinions of her own and sat down obediently and quietly in the tent.
Fung Ching was experienced at survival. He quickly came back after gathering enough firewood. He took off his shoes and entered the tent, only to find the atmosphere inside to be weird and awkward. In particular, Hung Yu Fei was curled up in a corner of the tent like a good little kitten.
Fung Ching couldn’t believe his eyes!
The three of them rested inside the tent. Fung Ching wasted no time and focused on recovering his soul energy. After a long pause, Wun Fan was the first to snap out of his meditation. He opened his eyes and stared at Hung Yu Fei without a word.
Hung Yu Fei felt embarrassed and blushed when Wun Fan stared at her. She turned her head awkwardly and tried to move away, bu Wun Fan’s gaze moved with her. She whispered, “Sorry.”
Wun Fan sighed and said patiently, “Girl, you should remember, we aren’t here to play. This is training. Even the slightest mistake could put our lives in danger. Do you really understand that?”
Hung Yu Fei nodded again like a little chicken with a very apologetic expression on her face. It was only then that Wun Fan let go of the rest of his anger. Fung Ching was getting used to this by now. Who would’ve thought that demon of a girl would be tamed so easily?
Wun Fan took out a sack of steamed buns and prepared to dig in, but Hung YU Fei was faster. She took out a whole stack of jade boxes and said, “Come, let’s eat!”
She opened the boxes and a delicious smell filled the room. She channelled soul energy into the boxes and smoke started rising from below. Wun Fan stared at the boxes in stunned silence. Weren’t these bento boxes?
Martial artists were protected by their soul energy and weren’t afraid of extreme heat and cold. Hung Yu Fei grabbed some meat with her fingers and put them into her mouth. She smacked her lips in satisfaction and exclaimed, “Delicious!”
Wun Fan and Fung Ching looked at each other, smiled and shook their heads. There really was no helping this girl.
Wun Fan made some arrangements and Hung Yu Fei got her wish. She managed to take a hot bath before the sun fully set. She didn’t feel wary around the two boys at all and just went ahead and took her bath.
Of course, the two boys had no intention of peeking either.
Once Hung Yu Fei was done, Wun Fan took out a small wooden stool and sat outside the tent. He said to the other two, “I’ll be on watch duty for tonight.”
Fung Ching felt bad about having Wun Fan do it. After all, he was an intermediate Martial Scholar, the strongest amongst the three of them. He should be the one on watch duty to protect the two of them. However, Wun Fan didn’t think so. He had the Spiritstartler Ring with him, making him extremely sensitive to all auras. Moreover, he also had Old Lei with him, who was basically a radar that could pick up all manner of enemies and monsters. Anyone who wanted to harm them would first have to escape his notice!
That was why Wun Fan insisted on keeping watch. Fung Ching knew that Wun Fan had his own tricks up his sleeves, so he didn’t press the issue.
Just like that, the moon rose up into the sky and the three of them could finally relax.
Wun Fan started a small fire and wasted no time after that. He immediately started breathing in and out, taking in aether to consolidate his power. After all, he had just jumped two minor realms to become an advanced Martial Mortal in a single battle.
His mental energy dove into his martial heart and saw that Li’l Black had grown significantly. Wun Fan was curious and moved forward to stroke the dragon’s head.
However, to his surprise, Li’l Black twisted away, avoiding his hand before glaring at him. It then spat in Wun Fan’s face, before tossing his mental projection into the air and biting him!
“I didn’t even say anything this time!” cried Wun Fan.
Old Lei replied sarcastically, “Technique bestowment. You had no idea how many people would kill for what you have.”
Li’l Black didn’t hold back at all. Its fangs pierced Wun Fan’s soul with ease. Wun Fan immediately clasped his head and clenched his teeth as he tried and endure the splitting headache. At the same time, two strange surges of power appeared in his martial heart. They looked like words, or perhaps runes of some sort, but not exactly.
These two strange force travelled along Wun Fan’s martial heart and arrived at his mind, where they merged with it.
After a long pause, Wun Fan let out a moan. He opened his eyes and looked down at his hands. He said in wonder, “These are my martial techniques.”
“Careful, something’s coming,” said Old Lei while Wun Fan was still examining the new changes in him. Wun Fan snapped back to his senses. He immediately opened the tent and warned his two companions, “Get up! Get ready!”
The two of them woke up and immediately shook the sleep off of themselves. They climbed out of the sleeping bag and the tent and looked around warily.
“Ooooooh…” came a strange cry just a few minutes later.
The cry was quickly followed by dozens of other strange cries coming from every direction.
