“To gain is fortune, to lose is tragedy,” repeated Fung Ching to himself. He had a sudden epiphany and looked at Wun Fan intently. His words never failed to impress him.
“Let’s go,” said Wun Fan as he brushed off the dust of battle from his shoulders. He looked up at the sky. It was still early. He turned to look at his two companions and asked, “Do you guys think we can make it to our starting spot in one day?”100Please respect copyright.PENANARVetbRR7Gl
Green Sea Town, Wun Mansion. Inside the training grounds.
A young girl stood there, wearing a blue and white dress. Her long black hair had been trimmed compared to before and she was taller too. She had a forlorn look on her face. The patches on her face had faded significantly, but she still wore her mask. Perhaps, in her mind, only a few people were allowed to see her face.
She was in isolation for the past two weeks, focused on her own training. She had been accumulating soul energy in her body, and using it to break through her pressure points. She had improved tremendously, ascending to novice Martial Master realm. There was no such thing as a bottleneck for her.
Wun Siu Lan, who had always been a very quiet girl, turned completely silent after Wun Fan left. This made Wun Ching Yeung very anxious. Wun Siu Lan would usually shed her cold exterior in front of him, but recently she had not said a single word even to him.
Strength might be the most important thing to a martial artist, but it was extremely frowned upon if the martial artist did not have the mental conditioning to match their strength. Wung Ching Yeung had seen many martial artists who became homicidal maniacs after obtaining too much power. These people were often quiet loners who did things according to their own whims. Their mood shifted as easily as the winds and could kill a person without batting an eye after happily sharing a drink with them just moments ago. He didn’t want his children to become someone like that.
Even if they were only his adopted children.
“Siu Lan, do you know why I asked you to come out here today?” asked Wun Ching Yeung. He was dressed in black and blue robes, which matched really well with Siu Lan’s dress. He held his hands together in front of his chest, keeping them inside the long sleeves of his robe. He smiled as he looked up at the sky. The sunlight was warm against his face.
“I don’t know,” said Wun Siu Lan as she shook her head. She didn’t seem too interested in what Wun Ching Yeung wanted to tell her. She glanced at the gates of the Wun Mansion absentmindedly, as if there was something in her mind.
At this moment, nothing could get through her.
“I know you’ve already ascended to novice Martial Master,” said Wun Ching Yeung plainly, instead of beating around the bush to no avail. He moved his hands apart. A black flash came from his storage ring and a black sword appeared in his hand. He said, “Is it okay if I test your strength?”
Wun Siu Lan was a battle maniac. She immediately snapped back to her senses when she heard Wun Ching Yeung’s words and turned to look at him. With her power as a novice Martial Master, she was already stronger than most people in the Wun Clan. All this while, she had trouble searching for a suitable sparring partner.
After all, as a Martial Master, she could easily injure the other disciples badly if she made a single mistake. However, at the same time, if she challenged the more senior members of the clan, it would come across as rather disrespectful. If she accidentally injured any of them, it would be a terrible humiliation for them.
Wun Ching Yeung was a different matter, however. As the strongest person in Green Sea Town, he was more than a match for her and could even instruct her. More importantly, he was her father. There was no one more suited to take on the role of her mentor.
Wun Siu Lan’s eyes gleamed with excitement. She couldn’t wait to spar with Wun Ching Yeung.
“This daughter of mine is a real piece of work. I really can’t get her to cooperate without putting in some work,” muttered Wun Ching Yeung as he smiled gently. He slowly drew his sword and pointed it at Siu Lan. Wun Ching Yeung had no intention of underestimating his own daughter. After all, he had seen Siu Lan’s explosive growth during this time. Her strange fires had some very peculiar characteristics. Even he would be in trouble if he slipped up.
However, before they started, he asked, “Siu Lan, can you answer a question for me?”
Wun Siu Lan nodded her head like a woodpecker before Wun Ching Yeung even finished his question. Seriously? She had an excellent sparring partner in front of her. She would be happy to answer ten questions if it meant they could get to the fighting, let alone one.
“Why have you been so obsessed with your training these past few weeks?” said Wun Ching Yeung. His had received reports about Wun Siu Lan training all night in the mountains from his Shadow Guard. She had been deep in meditation and did not move a muscle throughout the process. Wun Ching Yeung couldn’t help but worry about her.
Wun Siu Lan paused for a moment when she heard the question. She then shrugged and chuckled. Her soft voice came from under the mask, “Because I want to become stronger.”
“I can only protect Wun Fan when I’m become stronger,” said Wun Siu Lan. Her mind wandered back to that night, that one moment of despair. It was her adopted brother who stood in front of her and brought color back to her life.
These feelings that she had for him, were they feelings for a sibling? Or were they more? Wun Siu Lan didn’t care. All that was important to her was that she protected him.
“Is that so?” said Wun Ching Yeung. He felt a headache coming on and rubbed his forehead. He couldn’t help but sigh internally. However, he immediately dismissed his worries. He had been young once too. Over the years, he had seen plenty of young people profess their love for each other despite their age. It was a very silly kind of love; naive, but deeply sincere, precisely because of its naivety.
“Man, I really am getting up there in age,” said Wun Ching Yeung as he stroked his face. He was starting to have wrinkles.
“Let’s go,” he said as he slowly backed away until he was a dozen meters away form Siu Lan. He flicked his sword a few times before holding it in front of him and chanting, “Martial soul, descend.”
“Martial soul, descend!” shouted Wun Siu Lan as she took off her mask and put it into her storage ring. She rubbed her fists and her cold aura changed in an instant. A warm haze radiated outward. Wun Ching Yeung could feel the heat, even from a distance. All the chilliness of winter was gone in an instant.
“Lethality: Sword of the Risen Sand and Sweeping Clouds,” said Wun Ching Yeung as he thrusted with his sword. This attack was just to probe Wun Siu Lan and test her reaction.
“Hehe,” chuckled Wun Siu Lan. The mischief in the corner of her mouth almost resembled Wun Fan’s own smile. She threw herself forward at Wun Ching Yeung’s sword, as if to impale herself.
“No!” shouted Wun Ching Yeung angrily, but he had no choice but to change his attack midway. The tip of his sword grazed Wun Siu Lan’s arm as he moved it away.
However, Wun Siu Lan already expected this reaction. White flames burned on her tiny palm as she cried, “The third flame, Turbid Boneeater is its name, ashes to ashes all two hundred and sixty bone it claims!” She thrusted her palm at Wun Ching Yeung’s chest aggressively, completely ignoring their parental ties!
“What a rebellious daughter!” muttered Wun Ching Yeung to himself as he channelled soul energy to his feet. He kicked the ground and immediately distanced himself from Wun Siu Lan, causing her attack to miss. Upon landing, he flicked his sword and ran two fingers across its blade. He looked at the blood on his fingers and said in an unhappy tone, “It’s just a spar. Is there any need to draw blood?”
“Hehe, I can’t help it,” said Wun Siu Lan as she stuck her tongue out cutely. She seemed to be back to her usual self now. She said, “The fourth flame, Reincarnation is its name, life and death are but a game!”
Six Paths Reincarnation Flame!
Green flames ignited around Wun Siu Lan’s injury. Flesh grew quickly and the wound was mended in under ten seconds. There was not even a smallest of scars left. It was truly amazing. This unfair style of combat that boasted tremendous recovery was very similar to Wun Fan’s use of the Spiritstartler Ring.
“You little rascal,” said Wun Ching Yeung with a chuckle. Who would’ve thought that she would learn to fight like Wun Fan, putting herself at risk to trade blow for blow? Why were all his children such troublemakers?
Several other disciples were hard at work in the training grounds as well. However, when they saw the two of them spar, they all stopped what they were doing to look. On one side you had the clan master Wun Ching Yeung, and on the other, you had the rising star of the clan, Wun Siu Lan.
“Lethality: Crimson Lotus Karmic Flame,” said Wun Siu Lan. Flames appeared in both her hands. She tossed the flames into the air, leaving dozens of fireball hovering there. She smiled and said, “Come on, have a taste of this!”
“Hey, hey, hey, isn’t that a little overboard?” said Wun Ching Yeung. He was completely speechless. Was this really a Martial Master’s attack? It was shocking enough to see a ten-year-old Martial Master, but to think a simple attack by her would be powerful enough to threaten a Martial Colonel like himself! It was ridiculous. Even Wun Ching Yeung had to admit that her daughter was a monstrous prodigy.
Wun Siu Lan pointed down with her finger. All the fireballs instantly shot at Wun Ching Yeung in a fiery barrage!
Wun Ching Yeung had plenty of combat experience. An attack like this couldn’t faze him. He remained calm and concentrated on his breathing. He quickly recovered his cool. He drew a circle with his sword. He had a peaceful expression on his face, like that of a wise sage.
He said, “Lethality: Drifting Sword, Cloud’s Guide.”100Please respect copyright.PENANAlSvXux5DTH
