Wun Fan did not make a single sound, but overwhelming killing intent poured forth from his eyes. There was no empathy in his eyes at all. It was as if he was looking at a corpse. This reminded him of his past life. He had stared at pieces of trash with the same look.
It was like looking at them for the last time.
His mother wasn’t someone that this sort of trash could insult.
“Old Lei, how powerful are these guys?” Wun Fan asked silently in his mind. He might look bold and reckless now, but he never neglected the details. He was decisive, but not careless.
Understanding the enemy’s power first was the right thing to do here.
“Of the six of them, one is a peak Martial Mortal, one is an advanced Martial Mortal and the other four are novice Martial Mortals,” said Old Lei. It would have been a waste not to make full use of the human radar Wun Fan had in his ring.
Wun Fan slowly stood up and took off the hood of his coat, revealing his innocent and youthful face. However, that expression should not appear on the face of a young boy. The dense killing intent was something that could only have been accrued from killing hundreds or even thousands of people.
The killing intent seemed to trigger some sort of resonance with the Spiritstartler Ring. Wun Fan’s right thumb trembled and killing intent erupted into the surroundings.
The thick killing intent spread out along the wind. The dozens of animals in the stables were startled and started panicking. They cried, kicked and flailed. The waiter who was attending to Wun Fan’s horse couldn’t even tie the reins properly to a post.
The civilians on the other table shivered as well, a chilling sensation rising from within their hearts. Everyone pulled their clothes tighter around them, trying to keep out the mysterious cold that had appeared out of nowhere. The civilians looked at each other. Sensing the unusual atmosphere in the restaurant, they quickly left money on the tables to pay their bill and left in a hurry. After all, ordinary people couldn’t survive an encounter between martial artists.
The burly man immediately laughed out loud when he saw Wun Fan take off his hood. He said, “That’s a good look in your eyes, kid. I wonder what your mom’s eyes look like in bed…”
“Shut up.” The captain slapped the man before he could finish as if he suddenly remembered something. He scolded him angrily, “Go and apologize now.”
“Captain, you…” said the man in confusion. His captain had been laughing with him just a minute ago and even promised to pay for their trip to a brothel. Why did his attitude chang so suddenly?
The other four members of the party were equally as confused. They didn’t know why their captain was angry either.
Seconds passed in the blink of an eye. The captain slapped the man again when he saw him standing there idly. This time, he hit him so hard, that a tooth nearly fell out of his mouth. The captain said sternly with a dark expression, “I, Squad Captain Cheung Yun Ching of the Green Wolf Gang, order you, Wong Sam Biu, to kneel and apologize!”
Wong Sam Biu clasped his face in pain, but he didn’t dare to even whimper. He saw the serious look in his captain’s eyes and understood everything. After all, the members of the Green Wolf Gang often joked around with each other, without too much regard for hierarchy or status. However, if any leader were to use the name of the Green Wolf Gang, it meant that it was an absolute order. It didn’t matter if the order made sense or was the appropriate thing to do, if you disobeyed the order, you would suffer the consequences.
Wong Sam Biu said nothing more. He walked forward and dropped heavily to his knees. The floor thumped as he kneeled. He even kowtowed three times, slamming his head into the ground so hard that he drew bleed. A few grains of sand were even stuck to his bloody forehead. He said with a sincere expression and a regretful look in his eyes, “This lowly one was foolish and blind to have crossed you, sir. I beg you, sir, to forgive my worthless self.”
He even slapped himself several times in the face. His movements were so natural, it seemed like it was something he did often. He even kowtowed a few more times, as if his slaps weren’t enough.
First rule of the Green Wolf Gang: dignity is worth nothing; it will only get you in trouble.
Wun Fan watched the script quickly turn upside down as Wong Sam Biu kneeled in front of him. He didn’t know how to respond and was completely dumbfounded. His mouth was wide open with shock. Even the killing intent had vanished from his eyes. The feeling of winding up for something but being made to hang empty in the air left a sour taste in his mouth, but there was nothing he could do.
Seeing the killing intent fade from Wun Fan’s eyes, Cheung Yun Ching immediately greeted him with one hand over his fist, “Greetings, Young Master of the Wun Clan. I am Squad Captain Cheung Yun Ching of the Green Wolf Gang. May I know your name, sir…?”
As a squad captain, Cheung Yun Ching knew enough to get by. At the very least, he was knowledgeable about the major clans and factions in the nearby towns and villages, unlike the stupid Wong Sam Biu. He thought Wun Fan’s coat looked familiar, but he couldn’t remember where he had seen it before. However, upon seeing Wun Fan’s young age and the incongruent killing intent and aura he possessed, he couldn’t help but pay more attention to him. He looked at the pattern on the coat and remembered: Wasn’t this the Wun Clan’s emblem?
Moreover, the quality of the coat, as well as its colors meant that it wasn’t something that the ordinary person could own. A little deduction and logic suggested that this young boy was a lineage disciple of the Wun Clan. Even if his guess was incorrect, there would be no harm in apologizing. However, if he was correct, it would help in resolving this dangerous situation.
That was why he decisively slapped Wong Sam Biu across the face. It was to defuse the tension and let Wun Fan calm down.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Wun Fan wasn’t exactly an innocent boy either. He had more than his fair share of experience in his past life. He wasn’t surprised at being recognized. After all, wearing the Wun Clan’s coat outside was practically announcing his identity to everyone he came across. However, he didn’t know what the Wun Clan’s reputation was and how effective of a threat it would make to announce his identity as a member of the clan. If the opponent wasn’t intimidated by the Wun Clan at all, it might even make things worse.
Thus, Wun Fan decided to keep things vague, “It doesn’t matter who I am. All you need to know is that you cannot afford to cross me.”
The tone of his voice was proud, arrogant, and overbearing!
“Yes, sir. I will make sure to discipline my subordinate when we get back. We humbly request for your forgiveness, Young Master Wun,” said Cheung Yun Ching, positioning himself as low as he could in the conversation. There was nothing Wun Fan could criticize. Wun Fan wasn’t a bloodthirsty person either, so he had no choice but to leave the matter at that.
“Young Master Wun, please be generous and allow us to rest here for a moment. We will disappear from your eyes momentarily,” said Cheung Yun Ching with an obsequious tone. He even forced his ugly face into a horrible smile that looked even worse than if he was frowning.
“Mm, very well,” said Wun Fan, before putting his hood back over his head. He then waited patiently for the waiter to bring the tea to him.
Cheung Yun Ching kicked Wong Sam Biu and shouted, “Hurry up and thank the young master for his generosity!”
“Yes, yes. Thank you so much, sir!”
“Let’s go, you embarrassing piece of shit,” said Cheung Yun Ching. He grabbed Wong Sam Biu by his collar and dragged him back to their table. The six men no longer said anything after sitting down. They ate the rest of the food on the table quickly and prepared to continue on their journey.
The waiter attending to Wun Fan immediately brought over the boiled beef after seeing the conflict defuse. The meat was warm and steaming and came with a plate of soy sauce. Chili and lard had been mixed into the soy sauce. Wun Fan felt a sense of longing as he stared at the meat. Wun Siu Lan’s excellent cooking skills had successfully conquered his stomach.
As they say, to conquer someone’s heart, you must first conquer their stomach; and to conquer someone’s stomach, you must first know their heart. There was no doubt that Siu Lan had managed to achieve all of those things.
Wun Fan picked up a piece of the beef, dipped it in soy sauce and ate it. It wasn’t horrible, but the meat was tough and tasteless, while the soy sauce was too salty and not fresh enough. Even the chili had a bitter aftertaste to it.
Wun Fan was trying to calm his mind and his senses when he heard a horse whinny from the crossroads. Seven or eight seconds later, a red horse galloped towards the restaurant, carrying a young girl on its back.
She was wearing a red and black coat, with short hair reaching past her ears and which curled inwards at the tips. Her hair was black with hints of red. She had bangs on her forehead, just barely hiding the white skin underneath and complementing her cute, oval face. She had prominent cheekbones, lively eyes and bright, red lips that were just the right size, giving her a cheerful temperament.
Judging from her height and youthful look, the girl was around fourteen years old. She pulled on the horse’s reins as she waved her hand and shouted at the travellers in front of her with her sharp voice, “Aaah! get out of the way! Out of the way!”
Wun Fan couldn’t help but frown when he saw this. Why were there so many things happening today? He couldn’t help but feel a little irritated. He glanced over and saw that the red horse had been heading in the direction of the forest when the girl suddenly pulled on the reins. The horse suddenly turned around and was galloping in the direction of the teahouse. Moreover, the horse was going faster and faster, with chaotic, frenzied steps. It seemed like the horse had been spooked by something and had suddenly gone out of control.
