“I want to meet you Rose. At what time you come to BAMC?” when Rose was preparing herself to go to BAMC, she got the phone call from her close friend Nalini.
Nalini and Rose studied their intermediate together and from graduation Nalini has chosen teaching career with English when Rose chose psychiatry and became a psychiatrist. But they still have been very close and share everything with each other. Both of them did post-graduation in their respective fields.
“You need not come to that BAMC. You can straight come to my home for dinner and we can talk a lot in my home” Rose said.
“It is just because of a worst psychological problem I want to meet you. I do want to meet you as a psychiatrist Rose rather than my friend.” Suddenly Rose found very distressing note in the voice of her friend. With what psychological problem she has been suffering from Rose could not understand! As far as she knew, Nalini has a very strong psyche and will power also.
“I can be the psychiatrist Rose in the home also and discuss about that problem. I wish you do come to dinner to our home and discuss about that problem.” Rose suggested.
“But Rose I don’t think that I can wait that longer. This is very much serious ....and we have to have a discussion as fast as possible.”
Nalini’s talking like that was shocking to Rose. “Every minute of this day in BAMC is filled with pre-appointments. It is not so that I cannot manage time for you in between but we cannot have peaceful and lengthy discussion. If you can manage it I suggest you to come to my home for dinner and discuss that problem with me. Otherwise you can come to BAMC also at whatever time you want and I can manage.”
“Alright Rose. I do come to your home in the night.”
“I would be indeed nice! You can talk with Williams also and see our little Emily too.” With happiness in her voice Rose said.
“But Rose this must be absolutely private and except you and me no one else should know about it.” Suddenly there was anxiousness in the voice of Nalini.
“It shall be so.” Once again Rose shocked sensing the anxiousness in the voice of her friend. “All my patients’ details are absolutely private and confidential to me and I never discuss about them with anyone else. You can be hundred percent be assured of it.”
“Thank you Rose. I do meet you in your home in the night.” Then without saying another word Nalini cut off the call.
Even after reaching BAMC also Rose was very much puzzling and perplexing thinking why Nalini was that much anxious and with what hell of a psychological problem she has been suffering. While she was seeing her patients one after one she received an intercom call from Charles.
“Viswanadh’s daughter Prameela came here to see you.”
“For what?” Rose was puzzled on hearing that. Suddenly she remembered Viswanadh and his second’s wife problem and Prameela’s phoning to her the day before and took the appointment to meet her in the morning of that day. Then Rose remembered what Viswanadh said about the terms between Evalla and his daughter Prameela and felt surprise. In the morning two hours Rose usually see her patients and the patients of the other psychiatrists also and in unavoidable circumstances she would allot that time to schedule for new patients. If she has not scheduled that time for Prameela, she would have given appointment to Nalini to meet her at that time.
“She wants to talk about Evalla’s problem with you. Her step-mother.” Viswanadh laughed. “She is waiting in the visitors lounge.”
“I forgot Charles. I gave her the appointment to meet me now. Ask her to meet me in my chamber.” Rose said and put down the phone.
***
After seeing Prameela, Rose understood Viswanadh’s first wife also was not very much disappointing if Prameela resembled just her. Prameela was tall just like her father, not only beautiful but with abundance youth and attractive also and might be aged twenty five or six.
“I really very much sorry that I am disturbing you coming here” Once comfortably settled in the chair and leaned back in it Prameela said.
“Its alright. No problem.” Rose’s charming smile has taken its usual place. “Anyhow you want to talk about may I say .....your step-mother .....Evalla’s issue, is it is not?” she also leaned back in the chair while observing Prameela minutely.
“Absolutely you can say it like that doctor” Prameela laughed. “My step-mother but three years younger to me.”
“I am feeling very happy that you came here to talk about her.” Rose said still watching Prameela. “What all she needs now is all her family members support.”
“Yes, doctor. I understood that.” Prameela nodded her head. “For a long time I felt lot of anger on her and did not even talk with her. But after thinking deep I understood that I have been doing a mistake. Whether my dad’s marrying her is right or wrong, she is one of my family. If their marriage is a mistake, my dad and she equally contributed to it. So I want to be helpful in this regard.”
“Hundred percent very good decision!” Rose nodded her head with appreciation. “So you came here to discuss about her problem with me. Did not your father tell anything about it to you?”
“He did, of course.” Prameela nodded her head. “But I want to know about it through you also. Moreover, I want to see you in person who is treating her now and this BAMC also where we have to admit her if there is a necessity.”
“Very well then. But I cannot say more to you than what I have said to your dad.” Then Rose explained to her Evalla’s problem. “Now a day there are enough fiction books and movies also on these split personality and multiple personality problems. But in actuality they differ a lot with what we have seen in the movies and read in the books. This split personality, I am going to say, treating it is very much difficult and needs a systematic approach. Making mistakes in the treatment may result in serious problems.”
“My god! Is it is so?” Prameela’s face was filled with anxiousness.
“You need not worry about. I have enough experience in treating these split personality and multiple personality problems.” Rose stooped forward in the chair, balanced her arms on the table in between them both and said. “What all I need is cooperation from her side and her family members also.”
“You do have it hundred percent doctor. You need no doubt in it.” With assurance in her face Prameela said. There was few seconds’ silence between them both before Prameela broke it again “In fact doctor, that split personality was exposed while I was talking with her.” Then she explained to Rose what happened while she and Evalla were talking.
“Not very much surprising thing. If it exposes again like that, engage it in talking and try to know about it more. It shall be quite helpful in dealing with that split personality. I have advised the same thing to your dad also.”
“Okay doctor. I shall do so.” Prameela nodded her head. “Anyhow when you are going to start your treatment? How long it takes to Evalla to become completely normal?”
“I am just waiting to know more about that split personality. Then there is a procedure for treating split personalities.”
“Is it is not possible to know about that split personality by putting her under hypnosis?”
“It is absolutely possible miss Prameela” Rose smiled, reclined in the chair and adjusted herself for more comfort. “But we need to be very careful while exposing that split personality ourselves through hypnotism. Otherwise there is a possibility that split personality may become permanent in her.”
“I cannot understand!” with confusion Prameela knitted her brows together.
“What that split personality is saying her name is.....” trying to remember Rose said.
“I too heard it saying its name doctor. But it seems I also forgot about that.” With a smile Prameela said.
“I remember now. Okatho....yes, Okatho. That Okatho would become permanent in her. That means she remains as Okatho for the rest of her life instead of Evalla.” Rose once again adjusted in the chair for more comfort.
“My god! There is such a danger in it doctor?” Prameela’s face filled with fear.
“Absolutely there is that danger dear, that is why I am always very much careful while treating split personalities.” Rose said “But don’t feel fear, it is my assurance to you that I do make your mom hundred percent her usual self. Just believe me.”
“I believe you doctor, I believe you.” This time Prameela laughed. “In fact I am quite impressed by you and feeling lot of confident also. I don’t know why but I am feeling hundred percent sure that you can cure my mom.” Prameela indeed meant what she has said. By looking at the glamorous figure and talking with her like that, Prameela did not know why but was feeling lot of confidence on her.
But it was not new to Rose that patients talk like that with her so. “As you are curious yourself like this, I want to ask you to do something to make the task easier miss Prameela.”
“Please tell me what should I do? I am hundred percent ready to do anything to cure her completely.” With a curious her expression in her face Prameela said.
“First thing whenever that Okatho exposed in her, don’t feel odd but engage it into talking and try to know about it as much as possible. Next thing, try to know about that Evalla as much as possible. I mean her childhood, the way of her growing up, how she spent her life before entering into your dad’s life like that. Mostly because of trauma, stress and difficult situations in life cause the occurrence of split personalities and multi personalities in people.”
“Alright doctor. I do so.” Prameela nodded her head. “But what can be that Okatho? Is it just an imaginary character by her?”
“Can be. Sometimes subjects create split personalities in themselves with imaginary characters. And sometimes they impose real people on themselves. The odd thing here is the real people may then be living or dead. But the birth of split personalities happen quite unknowingly to the subject. Most of the times, until they have been told, subjects don’t know that they have been suffering from a split personality problem.”
“Indeed very much curious! How things do happen in our mind without our knowledge and knowing at all!” Prameela really felt very much surprise on hearing that.
“Curious is the human mind!” Rose laughed. “Even the great scientists in the world also can not say what exactly it is!”
“Absolutely you are right doctor.” Prameela also laughed and got off form the chair she sat. “I have consumed some of your important time. But I felt very much happy talking with you like this. I go now and meet you again.”
“I also have the same feeling miss Prameela” Rose also got off from the chair and she said what indeed she felt. “Post me if there is any new development in her without any delay. Our BAMC is always ready to do anything for its patients.”
“I understood it.” After saying that and saying bye, Prameela went out of that room.
