“18+” has really lost it’s meaning. It’s more like “it’s not safe work work, usually in a sexual context.”
“Are you over the age of 18 and willing to see content for mature audiences?”
13 year-olds: My age on my google account is 120 so…
The people reading and writing things labelled 18+? I can bet a lot of them are 16 and under… Even more so on Penana as only one person has replied to my post of “any senior high or uni students here”…
The most frightening this is seeing comments such as “I’m 12 and idk why I’m reading this…” on a piece of wildly inappropriate media. Though again, I can’t blame the child but the parent for not monitoring their child’s internet usage.
However, I’m not saying I haven’t accessed “18+” content when I was underage… but since my internet usage was monitored intensely, it was not until my age of 16. Hey, I grew up in a strongly religious household (literal definition of “not in my Christian household!).
However, my father would make the joke, “are you winning son” - as in… “are you watching p*rn” more often these days… and it’s honestly been slightly disturbing. I’d say “don’t associate me with what you did at my age” but I can’t say I’m completely innocent… I just don’t read straight smu-
Jokes aside, I’m… falling behind on my linguistics lecture brb
I’ve forgotten my train of thought… Just want to say adult content is adult content for a reason- Curiousity killed the cat, and I’ve used up 8 of my 9 lives.
For example… Trypophobia. While not exactly “18+” content, seriously, I never had trypophobia until I searched it up. I never saw small holes the same again. I’m still highly disturbed and it plagues my nightmares. This is why when people say “don’t search this up,” maybe, just maybe, you shouldn’t.
You can find a lot of other disturbing content on the surface web out there… remember the time when a guy committed su%cide on stream with a shotgun, and it got spread around on tiktok under the disguise of wholesome cute animal thumbnails? Yeah…
I’ve learnt it’s really not “cowardly” to shy away from explicit content. Really, there are so many things on the internet accessible with just a click that no one should ever know about. Because I know some of you are curious like me and will check it out if I add it here, I won’t list them. Ignorance is bliss sometimes. Trust me on this. Kids, learn to control your curiousity or you’ll regret it. You can try to lie, saying that it didn’t affect you at all, but we all know that there’s only a very very small proportion of the population that aren’t triggered by such content; after all, it’s in human nature to be disgusted . It’s not exactly flex to be someone who could possibly belong in a psychiatric ward.
I was actually going to test you and link a subreddit containing such disturbing content (for your information, the site also has the media censored unless you click on them, so at the end of the day, it’s completely your choice.) that’s technically “safe” for all ages but trauma-inducing at the same time, but you know, I’ll be a responsible adult and won’t take the path of “you can learn by experiencing the consequences yourselves,” as I’m obviously not responsible for educating people here and I’m not telling you this out of genuine concern… only spite towards how depraved humanity is, was and will be. Even on youtube… there’s quite a few animal cruelty to straight out animal torture videos hidden here and there.
Alright, now this has taken a dark turn. Let’s end with something wholesome! Despite most of my entries having a more negative undertone, I don’t want people to feel bad after reading; I wanted people who experienced the same thing as I did know that they’re not the only one, and to pass down knowledge and mistakes I made to the few people who come across this, so I can somehow have a little more hope in humanity. Of course, I also just want to express my feelings in the form of words and address certain things.
