You know… I’ve never been a fan of sitcoms or that sort of slice of life genre. But recently, if it’s especially if it’s short, it’s not so bad.
For example, the daily life of high school boys. A certified classic. It’s fucking hilarious, mate. Nichijou as well (though many of the episodes I just found weird). The shrine scene- bahahaha.263Please respect copyright.PENANAxqCOZCRrkQ
But if it’s a long slice of life, ie. Kaguya Love is war or Komi can’t communicate - bro I dropped that crap in the first ten chapters.
I’ve also always lean towards reading completed books or manga rather than the ones that are still ongoing, and I almost never pick up ones with way too many chapters/episodes.
So I started watching Gintama.
And mind you, not even starting from season one. Because it was the most highly rated on my anime list, I started from season four. But since it’s primarily a comedy and slice of life, it wasn’t hard to figure out what was happening.
So, was it really deserving of such a high rating? Personally, no.
Sure, it was funny. But not THAT funny. Interesting enough to watch a short arc or two a day. The characters are pretty cool; there’s bound to be one you’re attracted to (I mean this in a platonic way… just to make sure). For me, that was ZURA JANAI KATSURA DA.
But then, I got hit with a serious arc. I thought it was going to last a few episodes at most, and I wanted to watch a comedy episode to end my day on a nice note…. But that never happened.
The season ended, and I was left with an empty feeling. What just happened? Where’s the comedy? WHERE’S THE COMEDY??? Hijikata, you can’t cry now?! Everyone….
And I had only watched one season. Before I knew it, I had become so attached to all of the characters, and I didn’t want it to all end like this.
Now I understand why some people don’t want a series to end. I’m still emotionally recovering from the season so I decided to go back and watch the past few seasons as I don’t have the mental capacity to watch the rest yet.
It kind of becomes a part of your life.
Even when Yumi’s cells ended, I didn’t feel this way, despite spending 6 years following it. I just felt happy for the characters, but Gintama… damn. Maybe because it ended on such a depressing note…
Well, I’m back to procrastinating now! Ciao.
