It's utterly ridiculous that I'm walking around with her pretending that we are a married couple. In my head we're not going to see our best mate, we're going to a maternity appointment or an antenatal class, expecting our first baby. I'm delusional, what is she doing to me?

I see Olivia just ahead and I keep Taylor close to me. Holding onto her hand and looking down at her as if nothing else exists in the world. Hospitals are busy, people filtering past us. Doctors in scrubs and visitors wiping their eyes; but nothing gets close to her, I keep Taylor right by my side. Checking on her, I take in her figure in the dress she’s wearing, it scoops down over her breasts and bump. I can’t help but to stare at her, every moment I’ve got with her is precious. Her hair tumbles down her side and she meets my eyes a small smile on her lips.

I glance at Olivia, she hasn't seen us yet. Although she's wearing a dress, it doesn't do anything for her. It's light blue, she places her pen back on the clipboard. Smoothing her hair back she looks up and glances at me from afar. There’s no doubt that the look on her face is one of a woman that wants something. And in this case it’s me that she is wanting. I scrape my hair back keeping Taylor with me.

"It's good news, today he will be moving out of ICU" she explains and I smile down at Taylor. I look into Olivia’s eyes, but I keep myself distant. A visitor of the hospital, not a friend. Not somebody she knows. I hope that with Ross moving away from the ICU that I will no longer have to see her and her red hair again. She scrunches up her face just briefly looking back at me. How a woman this professional can desire me is just silly.

“It’s early days recovery wise, but it’s looking up” Olivia says optimistically, a distant and cold smile on her face. I glance down at her hands as she writes some notes down, noticing her red nails. Her dress and bolt straight hair. Realising that this woman just wants a bit of attention and that I am nothing to her really, it makes me feel better about the whole thing.

I look at Taylor and see everything I could possibly want and need in her. Effortless and timeless beauty. She passes me my phone, watching me as I pocket it keeping my eyes on her. I’m flirting with her, the way I used to. There’s only one thing I’m certain of; she will be mine again.

Impulsively I grasp onto her jaw and pull her face to mine. I mouth the words go along with it for me, and she almost rolls her eyes. My back to Olivia I kiss Taylor, feeling her lips caress mine. A soft kiss that after the tension of this morning, lasts longer than I had anticipated.

“We really appreciate it” I say including Taylor in my farewell. Deciding I’ve wound her up enough I guide Taylor first out of her vicinity; angry women are temperamental as I learnt from Jane. Plain Jane, Jay’s ex got annoyed at him and tried to bottle him. We ended up in hospital, and he ended up with stitches and a concussion.

It’s imperative that I protect her from even the smallest possibility of confrontation or danger. I guide her away turning my back on Olivia for the last time and we walk together my arm around Taylor’s lower back to Ross’ room.
