Walking along the English corridors is always a treat for me, the atmosphere and hearing the lecturers talk loudly about books is something I quite enjoy. Myself and Ross walk past the sash windows with views over the gardens, today they are coated in snow like a scene from a Christmas movie. The lecture hall doors are open just inviting students in to come and listen. I hover outside of his lecture with him as he stands against the wall watching me.

The lecture flies by, I glance up at realising it’s almost five pm. Ross and I walk through the corridors again in the twilight as I gaze out over the gardens wondering about the character of Mr Darcy. How Elizabeth as a character excludes him at first due to his pride and awkwardness, yet how later on in the book she discovers his true character and they fall in love. Jay pops into my mind, like he usually does and I push him out. I’ve been refusing him, excluding him and demonising him in my mind for some time now. Rarely looking at him in public, and never ever being alone with him, at all costs.

Ross greets Matthew in the parking lot as he pulls me into his embrace. I hug Matthew and whisper in his ear that I love him and I'll see him later.

He indicates onto the highway and I watch him silently. Our extended silences are never awkward for me. I enjoy his company because he's okay not talking and he doesn't feel like filling up any silences with mindless chatter. He glances over at me smiling and I giggle.

“You always look beautiful” he smiles over at me as he parks inside of Jay’s drive, I notice his cars and a new car parked next to his usual Range Rover. A Ferrari, which I’m sure is not Jane’s. A female voice beeps us into the lobby, one I haven’t ever heard before, a soft voice of an older woman. The concierge greets us as we head into the large elevators that I remember.

The doors ding open into Gilbert Scott’s large apartment, the lights are all on illuminating the room. I watch as Jay talks with an older lady, she is small and petite in size with the same shade of blonde hair as his. He looks upon her softly and I realise this must be his mother. His body language is entirely different when he is with her. Jane is sprawled out over the sofa with a glass of wine in a tracksuit, ignoring them.

I walk my louboutin boots into the grande foyer which leads into the apartment and the lady who I assume to be Jays mother eyes me surprised looking up. Her eyes appraise my boots and she smiles slightly before looking back at him.

Contrasting dark navy’s with pools of orange light for the street lamps, and the couple at the centre of the image seemingly deep in conversation as they walk through the rain.

Ross has set the laptop up on the coffee table and I find myself standing in front of Jay watching him before either of us moves. The elevator dings closed and I jump slightly as he chuckles, he has an effect on me that’s for sure. And that is entirely why I refuse to look at him and have done for weeks.
