I'm definitely buying Taylor breakfast. I decided we could do better than hospital cafes, finding a local diner that serves all of the greasy food you need after you have been through a night of stress and worry. I eye her tucking into the fry up and can't help but to wonder about everything, whilst it's not unheard of to have a motorcycle accident in the snow, especially on a road that is narrow and unpredictable. Yet still, Ross is the most calm and collected guy I know, usually he manages most things with ease.

Eating my bacon and pancakes I surmise that the talk they had yesterday left him rattled and unable to concentrate. Gazing up at her I wonder what she said to him, how she put things and what could have left him so anxious. Taylor expressed that she felt totally and utterly to blame, which for me was down to a bit more than forgetting to offer him a ride home.

Occasionally Ross will touch her, like when he held her hand this morning. I turn my eyes away from it because he's already in a hospital bed, and now they have a shared experience. However tragic it might be. That kind of thing makes connections between people stronger.

"Did you enjoy your pancakes" I ask her softly and she nods self consciously. I cannot work out what could possibly make her embarrassed.

"Matthew you look gorgeous and I look like utter crap right now, stop staring at me" she laughs. A lot of women seem to feel that their faces without makeup are displeasing, but truly I love her face. The way in which her skin naturally glows, her rosy cheeks and naturally puckered lips.

Strolling around the snowy streets we end up in and out of several shops; purchasing magazines for Ross. Taylor pulls me into a book store where she hand picks him some paperbacks, and a cross word book.

I carry the bags of course as we travel on foot back to the hospital through the flurries of snow.

"You did exceptionally well last night, you remained calm and found my best friend in a blizzard" I explain smiling at her. Had he of been left it might have been hours before anybody found him. Worse somebody may have driven straight into him. Pneumonia and bears are other options I don't like to wonder about.

"That's still not your fault though." I attempt to reassure her. We pass a market selling trees and Christmas decorations and her eyes light up with glee, gazing at the lights and the baubles. The large trees already being sold is definitely a touch premature in my opinion but still whatever makes people happy.

"I'm going to spoil you Taylor" I tell her as we progress up the steps to the hospital and through the automatic doors. Visiting hours make the hospital more bustling and so I hold her close. I notice that Taylor eyes me when we go past the maternity wing. I chuckle as we hear the little babies screaming.

Taylor opens the door and steps in quietly as Ross is still sleeping. She would be an amazing nurse, should she want to be one that is. She is diligent and caring. Truly she puts herself out there for others and not just to be seen as good, not for a self fulfilling purpose, but because she cares for others.

I watch, taking a seat and eyeing her as she checks the machine and feels his forehead. Ross moans a little and she shh's him before lounging next to me as we watch the flatscreen that Jay has left on.

After around forty minutes or so Ross stirs, calling out for Taylor half consciously. I would be a liar if I said I didn't mind, it gets under my skin a little. Just a touch. She's mine.

"I'm feeling alright, sore but better" he explains. Taylor resumes sitting on my lap and the relief I feel is immense. That she's not touching him, and stroking him all of the time.

"I love crosswords" he laughs and Taylor snickers. Jay rolls his eyes, taking a seat as Rachel approaches the hospital bed.

"Besides the point" she snarks. Ross has to go over the accident again, explaining it to Rachel who listens interested, asking questions which mostly make her look more and more like a child.

I glance at Taylor, as we laugh at Rachel asking what a fork in the road is, she looks decidedly numb and sad again. As if she's picturing the lanes in her head, the snow falling around her as she searches in the storm. Jay eyes Taylor changing the conversation onto university, and the gossip that we have missed.

Taylor stands up, shakily completely out of the blue as the conversation turns quiet due to her abrupt behaviour. Rachel whispers to Jay eyeing her but he ignores what she is saying and instead watches Taylor grab her bags together and get ready to leave.
