"Jay it will be fine" she reassures me in the cab. It's inconceivable that she is reassuring me. Genuinely it is. I turn to face her and smile reassuringly.

I'm not sure if he's heading to the hospital, I don't give a shit. Unimaginable, how anybody could do that to a girl. He won't be at the same hospital as us, I'm taking her to the best hospital, right near the lake house where all the "wealthy" people go.

I gently pull her into my chest and she rests there breathing softly and holding her wrist away from her body. I'm pretty sure its fractured and not broken. Nothing is protruding, it just looks swollen and bruised. I stroke her hair back and I can feel her sobbing against me.

Eventually we are on the road I recognise, from taking mum to the hospital. I banish that thought now. Focus on the situation at hand.

"This is a private hospital" I say and we pull up to the main door. I help her out and thank the cab driver. It's funny how I'm almost sober. I haven't had a lot to drink tonight, I wanted to stay alert. Any drunkenness that I felt has vanished in the drama of this situation.

She nods and we walk in, it's not busy like most hospitals and she looks shocked. I walk her straight up to the desk, the receptionist team are friendly. The lady eyes her arm and suggests pain relief to begin with which Taylor smiles at. We get taken straight into a booth with a wraparound curtain, no waiting in reception for us. Taylor has taken some pain relief administered by the nurse and she's laying down. I'm sitting in the chair next to the bed thinking about smashing his face in, again.

Dr Forester was my mums main doctor throughout all of her multiple pregnancies, he is the closest thing we have to a family doctor. Forester used to give me sweets and lollipops when I had my shots, and he took care of me on all of the instances whereby I had to be rushed into hospital because I broke something or fell over. I admire him and I relax in my chair now that I know he is looking after Taylor.

While she is gone, I briefly consider whether if and when we conceive a baby, we will come and see Dr Forester together. I am thinking ahead, I’m trying to rein in my enthusiasm on the family planning side of our relationship. However looking at her, and the mere possibility that one of the times we’ve had unprotected sex means we get pregnant excites me, much more than it seemingly appeals to her.

The past is definitely a factor for her, going through a miscarriage is one of the most painful experiences a couple can face. I haven’t felt that pain but I sure have witnessed it through my own parents. I vowed to myself that I wouldn’t put myself through that, I was sure that I didn’t want a women of whom I loved to ever experience that kind of pain because of me.

I now feel like my heart is racing ahead, ignoring any logic or reason. Chasing that dream, the one where we have a tiny version of ourselves. And however long off that might be, I’m already ready for it.
