The hospital Jay has taken me too is private, a large building that looks like a hotel. Surrounded by woodland and peaceful views. It’s not your usual alarms roaring type hospital. And I am beyond thankful as I walk through the marble floors with him, small potted plants lining the halls and crystal lights. Of course we are visiting the maternity section and mentally I thank Jay for not bringing me to the one in town. The one where I had my post miscarriage op.

"That's the thing I'm not sure" I say embarrassed. Women should know their cycle. Since the miscarriage I haven't cared. Somehow it was triggering for me each time, the blood I decided to block out so that I didn’t think about the twins.

Dr Forester indicates that I take a seat on the bed and then I lay down with my shirt rolled up exposing my waist.

"This will be cold" he laughs a little as he prepares to put some of the jelly on me.

He then turns the machine on and prepares to scan my womb.

A dark image is available to view on the monitor and myself and Jay peer into it intently hoping to catch a glimpse of our baby.

I hadn't realised I had been holding my breath. Of one thing I’m sure, it’s impossible for me to forget the first two babies that I lost.

The image that greets me now on the monitor is of a foetus. So small, tiny in fact. I see the babies little head and can't help but to cry. Please I beg myself to protect this one at all costs. I glance up at Jay and he is in tears. It’s a sight when he cries, and I reach out for him.

"Taylor from what I can see you are further along than perhaps you had already thought. You're around 6 weeks. Would you like to hear the heartbeat" he asks us as I catch my breath looking between the doctor and Jay.

The doctor then proceeds to fumble around with the machine, I feel Jays arms around me, look up at him and he kisses me. The blind allows in the sun and it casts and warm glow over Jay’s face as I watch his expression of adoration wash over me.

"The heartbeat is always a little quick" Dr Forester says. As we heart a thumping sound from fill the room and I squeeze Jays hand.

"But everything appears to be progressing well" he says smiling and we are left utterly shocked and elated.

"Scan pictures will be available to be printed for you from reception, congratulations" Dr Forester says taking a lingering look at Jay.

"It is important that I give you these leaflets, assign you a midwife and schedule your next check up" he then tells us as I am standing from the small bed.

"Of course" Jay says all business again. Forester looks at him and smiles.

"Vitamins are a good bet and a good healthy diet. Exercise at this stage is totally fine so nothing to worry about you may be getting tired easily though so take rests when you need them" forester says to me.

"Next appointment will be in four weeks" Forester replies arming us with leaflets, a prescription and a code for our printouts.

We leave elated, Jay's arm around my shoulder and head to the desk. The receptionist smiles and hands us an envelope with the scan in it and a checkup card, plus a whole bunch of numbers to call in the event of an emergency. I try not to let my mind linger on that part.

When we're back in the Land Rover I place my hand on his thigh hoping he's not gone into shock. He stares down at me and my waist wordless and o giggle slightly. It was a lot to take on board and I can only hope he’s ready for my raging hormones and eventually for a baby.

"Okay but I'm cooking" he smiles pulling out of the car park and proceeding to drive down the long lane that leads to a highway. It’s an exclusive sort of place. Almost like a health spa, surrounded by peaceful grounds and the hum of birds.

"Okay can do" he laughs as I eye him. He’s not a chef or even the best cook but he tries his absolute best to make me happy and that’s all that counts. Singing along to Johnny cash as we travel home with our scan pictures in my purse.

We pull into the lake house and thankfully the events that we ran away from, the break in and the assault feel far away.
With this news and excitement I can't help but to focus on that instead.

As we enter though the front door we notice a fancy envelope on our door mat which has been posted and a whole load of messages on the answer machine. A large a3 card envelope that he opens up assessing it before looking up at me and smiling.

"House is ours" Jay says elated.
"Officially" he remarks after tearing open the envelope. He is not a waiter. He prefers knowing things instantly.

He hands me the fancy envelope which has a covering letter from the agent instructing us that the deed has been drawn up and that we are able to move in whenever is convenient for us. We are to contact them and they will personally deliver the deed and keys to us.

"This is meant to be Jay" I say looking up to meet his glorious blue eyes before eyeing the letter and the fancy logo on it from the real estate company. We are privileged and honestly as a girl with a single mother I could never have imagined owning any property. Ever being able to see my name on a joint deed to a house. A house that surpasses any expectation, one that has grounds and a dance studio. A house in the hills, surrounded by privacy and peace and tranquility. The perfect place for a family.
